Title: April 2013 Update Release Common 1. [OBD2 Generic Code Book] Function added

The new OBD2 Generic Code Book function has been added to the G-scan’s menu.

Select the button from the menu, there you can type in the P, B, C and U generic codes and check the code descriptions as defined by SAE J2012 and ISO/DIS15031 standards.

Just the OBD2/EOBD generic codes are

supported, and the manufacturer specific code definitions are not provided by this function.

2. [Delete File] function added for Image

Viewer and Flight Record Data Viewer modes. Previously, the captured images and the flight record data files contained in the G-scan’s memory card could be removed by taking out the SD card from G-scan and deleting the files using the PC. Now, you can delete the files by simply selecting the [Delete File] button from the file selection menu.

3. [User’s Guide Maker] added

The simple version of user’s manual, mainly focused on the basic operation of G-scan, has been included as a part of G-scan’s basic contents.

With this April 2013 update, the detailed user’s guides have been added for Honda, Nissan and Toyota under [User’s Guide Maker] menu.

[User’s Guide Maker] intends to provide more detailed guidance for running the frequently used advanced (or special) functions of each brand.

You can activate this function either by selecting “User’s Guide” button from the main menu, or selecting the “Guide” button after selecting Toyota, Honda or Nissan as shown below.

4. System Search Function improved

As well known, G-scan’s System Search function communicates with all the systems fitted in the car one after one, and then provides the summarized report including the number of DTCs found on each control system and the availability of special functions, etc. However, some of the control systems such as SRS, IMM or BCM do not support Trouble

Code Read and Erase functions at all, and some control modules require G-scan to communicate with the system individually to read the diagnostic trouble code information. In both cases, G-scan is unable to show the number of DTCs not because of its faults but because of the system’s design. In case the system does not support the DTC read/erase function, G-scan used to indicate it by putting “X” in the “DTC” column. In case the system requires further communication for DTC reading, “?” was used for indication. However, these “X” and “?” symbols caused misunderstanding among the users as the former could be understood as G-scan has failed to communicate with the system, and the latter as G-scan does not know how many DTCs are found. To avoid such misunderstanding, with the April 2013 update, the “X” and “?” were replaced by “-“ and “->”. In addition, while G-scan is communicating with the systems, the explanations about these symbols have been added in the pop-up window that indicates the progress of the System Search function, as shown below.

5. [DTC Tips] Function added

[DTC Tips] is a function that provides the information about the DTC including the detailed definition of the code, conditions for DTC logging, probable cause, check points, etc. This function has been added for Honda and VAG group ( Audi, VW, SEAT and SKODA) with the April 2013 update. The DTCs with the available tips are indicated with star mark in the head of the code

description, and the relevant DTC Tips are provided when the [*Tips] button is selected as shown below.

6. Pop-up message for Update Subscription

Expiry notification

So far, GIT has taken a passive stance about letting the users know that their subscriptions for G-scan update have been expired. Even after the expiry, the users could download the updates to their G-scans, and only the newly added models and functions appeared in the menu as inactive with the padlock sign.

With the April 2013 update, GIT has decided

to implement an active method of showing the pop-up message advising the users that their subscriptions have expired, as shown below.

The notification window will pop-up when the

G-scan turns on, and disappear when the “Close”

button is selected. The user whose subscription has expired will have to close the window each time and he can use the G-scan normally, of course the padlock will be there for the newly added features.

Basically, this unlimited download and padlock

sign policy will remain unchanged. When the update fee is paid and the

subscription is renewed, the window will not pop up anymore until the new period expires.

7. Data Analysis Graphic Mode improved

Minor improvement was made for the Data Analysis Graphic Mode. Previously, the numeric readings of the graphs were indicated in the standard size small font, and with the April 2013 update, the characters have been enlarged as shown above for better legibility.
