IMPORTANT REMINDER………….

This Is Burn Season

by Clarue Holland

The Goldman Fire Protection District has adopted the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ burning rules and regulations for Jeff erson County. As such, very strict burning rules and regula-tions are in eff ect for Lake Tishomingo. Violators are subject to fi nes anywhere from $500 to $15,000 levied by the MO DNR.

A permit is required for any burning and is issued by the Goldman Fire District. Permits can be obtained at the fi re station located at 9001 Old Lemay Ferry Rd, Hillsboro, MO 65030 – 636-789-9841. Permits are valid only from September 15, 2013 through April 14, 2014. Burning hours are from 10:00AM to 4:00PM.

The following rules and regulations must be followed:

1. The permit must be signed and dated by the owner

2. The permit must have address where the burning takes place

3. Address must be posted at the property entrance per Fire Department and State law

4. This permit must be on property where burning is taking place

5. Burning must be a minimum of 50 feet from any structure

6. Fire must be monitored at all times

7. Petroleum products are prohibited from starting fi re

8. Burning of substances which emit toxic and/or large amounts of smoke such as roofi ng materials, tires, vinyl, plastics, railroad ties, etc are prohibited

9. Burning household garbage is prohibited. No burn barrels

10. An eff ective method of extinguishment, such as an extinguisher, garden hose, or other water source shall be on site at all times

11. Fire must be completely out at 4:00PM

12. No burning when wind speed is over 15 mph

The Goldman Fire Department encourages residents to report any infraction not conforming to the above rules and regulations. All calls should be made to 911 (do not call the fi re house directly) and explain where and what is occurring. The Fire Department is most anxious to keep all property safe and will respond accord-ingly.

The Goldman Fire Department has a heavy responsibility to keep our property safe from fi re and destruction. We bear even greater responsibility of burning safely and with great caution at all times!! The added possibility of large dollar fi nes only adds to our need to always burn with great care and follow the above rules and regulations.

When the old church bell in the steeple of Belew’s Creek Chapel on Hillsboro-House Springs Road rings each Sun-day morning, people for miles around hear and heed its welcome invitation. Those who accept are not always mem-bers but people from several denominations who either live in the area or perhaps, are just passing through. They come from the surrounding hills and valleys, over narrow gravel or blacktopped roads to the small country church to hear the word of God and worship together.

This small white church by the side of the road nestles among the shady oak and hickory trees that tower above it. From there it sends out a welcome of warmth and nostalgia of another era, another time and other congregation. It is a house of faith, inspiration, hope and comfort to all who enter.

A visitor most always returns for as long a period as he or she remains in the community for one is charmed by the decor of the early 1900s which has been updated for mod-ern use but still retains the look of the past century.

Belew’s Creek Chapel (oft en referred to as the Chapel of the Wildwood) is lighted by old wall-hanging kerosene lamps, now electrifi ed and a charming chandelier of the same design. The hand made wood pews, glowing with the satiny richness of old polished walnut were made at the time the church was built. Now, due a memorial, red pew cushions have been added.

The Chapel was fi rst heated by a wood-burning stove, then converted to oil and the present day system of heat-ing, is gas. The altar, lectern and several other pieces, vital to a meaningful worship service, are handmade by local members of the congregation. The old pump organ, damaged by vandalism in 1962, is now replaced with the electric organ of Rose Meininger, former church organist for many years, by special provision of her will.

Belew’s Creek Chapel was fi rst organized in the year 1912.

LTPOA Meeting Minutes October 8, 2013

Lake Tishomingo Property Owners Association

Board Members Present: President Gordon Kassen, Marilyn Meyer, John Johnston, Ray Lauer

Excused Absence: Steve Blaha, Kevin SeelbachThe meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m., and there were

seven (7) property owners present. All recited the Pledge of Al-legiance to the Flag. President Kassen advised he had no report but wanted to shuffl e the agenda to accommodate a resident who was seeking a building permit.Building

John Johnston presented plans on behalf of David and Joann Ross, Lot K-23, who wish to have a wraparound deck at their home. Aft er the drawings were reviewed, John made a motion for approval, and this was seconded by Marilyn. MOTION PASSEDMaintenance

Next there was a lengthy discussion regarding snow removal this coming winter season and the availability the truck owned by the lake to be used for plowing and salting. Presently the batt er-ies need charging. One opinion is the truck can be made usable. John Johnston made a motion that batt eries (2) be purchased for the truck so a determination can be made about its availability. This was seconded by Ray. A vote was taken and John, Marilyn and Ray approved the motion. Gordon voted not to concur.

This led to additional discussion about whether the truck should be retained or sold. Ray had asked John Dauernheim to secure prices on a possible replacement truck, and he presented that information. Aft er further discussion, it was decided this is-sue should be set aside for additional consideration.

President Kassen mentioned there were discussions with a private contractor about the possibility that he be hired to salt and plow the roads and the contractor indicated he would prepare a bid and submit the information at a later date.

It was mentioned by Marilyn that if we are to purchase salt for the roads it needs to be done within the next several days. She had obtained a bid of $69.25 per ton from Morton Salt. Gordon made a motion to order this salt, and it was seconded by John. MOTION PASSED

Then further discussion led to the decision John would check the condition of the batt eries the weekend aft er this meeting and then there would be consultation among the board members.Minutes

Meeting of September 10, 2013: Ray made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes since they are available on the web site and will be printed in the Newslett er. Marilyn seconded the mo-tion. MOTION PASSEDTreasurer’s Report

Marilyn reported there was income of $42,858.37, with $42,800.41 represented in assessment payments.

The cash outfl ow amounted to $3,315.83 for a variety of matt ers, the primary costs being $370.00 for grass cutt ing and trimming on the dam, and $2,622.00 for insurance payment to Lakenan Insurance for property buildings.

On Labor Day, Monday Sept 2, a seaplane landed on Lake Tishomingo. He came in from the east and fl ew down the center of the lake landing on the water. It was a very busy day on the lake -- ski boats were pulling kids on tubes, many water skiers were out, and folks were swimming off of pontoon boats. We were very fortunate that no one was injured. We doubt the pilot could easily have seen small children in the water below him.

It was a very good thing that Steve Blaha was on the water in the patrol boat. Steve approached the pilot, told him he was not permitt ed to land a plane here, recorded his wing number, and escorted the plane to the eastern edge of the lake and asked him to leave.
