AustraliaHere I spent six months working as a paid researcher for
DSTGAus-tralia, to produce a white paper on the state-of-the-art in
swarm roboticsin communications contested environments.
InternshipKUKARobotics Mar 2014 - Sep 2014 ½ GermanyDuring this
internship I developed readout boards for engine-knocksensors, to
be installed in an automated test-bench for car engines. Themain
skills usedwere basic circuit design and Verilog development.
ResearcherDFKI (German Research Centre for Artificial
Intelligence) Feb 2012 - Feb 2015 ½ GermanyWorking on the LIMES
robot parallel to my undergraduate studies, I fo-cusedmainly on
electronic integration and hardware design.

BRIEFLYABOUTMEI am a highly motivated computer visionresearcher,
with a broader background inelectrical engineering. Since I have
beeninterested in tinkering since childhood, Ihave strong set of
practical skills, which isreflected inmy approach tomywork.I was
raised in Takaka, a beautiful part of ru-ral New Zealand, but left
to study SystemsEngineering (essentially a mechatronicscourse) at
the University of Bremen, Ger-many. After taking a year and a half
to travel,I moved toMelbourne, Australia, to start aPhD focusing on
event-based vision underthe auspices of Lindsay Kleeman and
TomDrummond.Since then, I have beenworking hard tomake use of these
novel visual sensors andto boost our understanding of
asynchronousdata. While mywork hasmostly focused
onoptimizationmethods on the events, I amcurrently working on
developing principledinput representations of the events for usein
deep neural networks.

PROJECTSBrief outline of some of my larger projects.WingNetHobby
Project, Deep LearningI am currently developing several tools for
the School of Biology to au-tomatically annotate/measureDrosophila
Melanogastermorphology. Al-though this started just for fun, we
plan to publish this work soon.Deep-Sea Tactile GripperBachelor
Degree Project, Electrical EngFormy bachelor thesis, I designed a
tactile gripper for a deep-sea robotarm. The final prototype was
successfully published in a top-tier
confer-ence.KUKARenovationBachelor Degree Project, MechatronicsIn
this project we stripped down an ancient robot arm and replaced
theold analogue control electronics with amoremodern PLC system
forwhich we programmed the control logic.EGG Egg
EngravingMachineHobby Project, CNCIn this project, I built a
machine for engraving a given image onto thesurface of an egg.DIY
3D PrinterHobby Project, CNCIn this project I developed and built a
3D printer and light mill togetherwith colleagues fromDFKI. This
included everything from themechani-cal design to large parts of
the control electronics.
