Advice Q: Dear S. Chonibon,

I really love Christmas but this year I got a few items that weren't my favorite. What should I do? I don’t want to hurt anyones’ feelings but I want to make sure I can put all my gifts to good use. A: Dear Gifted and Confused,

Sometimes people will give a gift receipt with the gift, that way you can return it to the store it came from and exchange it for something else. If there is not a gift receipt you can donate them to charity. If everything else fails try regifting it next Christmas to someone you know will enjoy your gift. Q: Dear S. Chonibon,

It’s finally the new year, which means it’s time to make a new year’s resolution. My friends always come up with really creative ideas. However, all I can think of is the cliche of being fit. Please help me think of some creatives goals that I will be able to stick with. A: Dear New Year, New You,

Resolutions are just simple goals. The whole point is to become your better self. You should do something that relates to your everyday life or something you want to be better at. Here are some creative ideas:

● Organize your life: use your planner, clean out your desk or locker ● Be positive, try to smile more and compliment people often ● Get involved in your community or school, join a youth group ● Stop procrastinating ● Read more

Madison ($5,000), and Salmon P. Chase ($10,000). ● It would take 11 Empire State Buildings, stacked one on top of the other, to measure the Gulf of

Mexico at its deepest point. ● On the new hundred dollar bill, the time on the clock tower of Independence Hall is 4:10. ● Elephants are the only mammals that can't jump. ● American car horns beep in the tone of F. ● On average, there are 178 sesame seeds on each McDonalds BigMac bun.

Great work everyone on the Winter Concert! It was a huge success. Choir Solo and Ensemble will be on Monday, March 21st, 4-7:30 p.m. Just a heads up, this does NOT require all students in Choir to participate, only if you wish to! Also, contest for 7th and 8th graders will be on May 6th, at Troy High School. This event, however, DOES require all students to participate, unless otherwise detained. Please see Mrs. Hughes for questions or concerns.

Teacher of the month: Mrs. Ares Mrs. Ares deserves to be teacher of the month because she has her students work hard so that they can become successful!

Interviews: Miss Smith: Q: Why did you decide to teach science? A:Because science is awesome! It’s logical, hands on, and you get to work in teams. Plus it answers many questions of “why” something works or behaves. Q: What is your favorite quarter? A: 4th- I love the end of the year excitement! I sometimes get a little nostalgic about the 8th graders and sending them to high school. Q: What is your favorite science topic? A: Newton's Laws. Q: What is your favorite experiment/activity to do? A: I’m a big fan of projects. Last year(at my last school) we used live mice to test different types of learning. We had a lot of fun playing with the mice and building more for them to learn. Q: Do you like the country or the city better? A: City! I actually live in downtown Dayton. Q: What is your favorite animal? A: Llamas are probably the most funny animal I know and are my favorite to watch. I also love dogs. I don't trust anyone who doesn't like dogs.

Mrs. Brown: Q: Do you enjoy teaching health? A: I love teaching health - it’s interesting and relevant every day. Q: What’s your favorite thing about being a teacher? A: My favorite thing is getting the opportunity to help young people learn to be their best, and I enjoy the energy of middle schoolers. Q: How long have you been teaching? A: This is year 18 for me. Q: Have you ever been out of the country? If so where? If not, where would you like to go? A: I have traveled to Mexico, the Bahamas, Jamaica, and Grand Cayman. Hawaii is on my bucket list for U.S. destinations. I would love to see Italy someday. Q: Given that you are the Cross Country coach do you enjoy running yourself? A: I do! In junior high and high school I was an athlete but not a runner. The more I do it, the more I like it. It has gotten in my system. I like the challenge of it and running makes me feel healthier. Q: What’s your favorite topic to teach about? Why? A: Although tough, my favorite topic is about mental illness. Learning about mental illness builds compassion in students and reduces the social Stigma. Knowledge about the topic will enable them to seek help for themselves or others they care about should they ever encounter it in their own lives. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
