• Before and after the American Revolution, the area belonged to John Morin Scott, a general of the New York militia where he served under George Washington. Scott's manor house was at what is now 43rd Street, surrounded by countryside used for farming and breeding horses.

In 1904 publisher Adolph S. moved the news paper operations to a new skyscraper on 42’d street on Long acre square(The old name for times square )He persuaded the mayor to build a subway station, And later the area was named Times Square and that is when times square started to develop.

Music in the area/trends

In the forties jazz was the favorite music and the city was top venue for it. I think this is because Jazz was really new at that age in time. In the fifties the music style changed to hip hop and punk rock .
