MELBOURNE 1970 - 1979Melbourne was still developing into the city it is today. The architecture were very art deco. It had state of the art transport and factories surrounded it.

Melbourne 1950-1956

• 1955- “The Split” (ALP's split in October 1955 leads to

formation of a new party )

• 1956- Melbourne hosts the Olympic Games

• 1956- First Australian television station

• 1958- The ICI house (Australia’s tallest office building until 1961) was opened

• The turning point in the development for Melbourne is considered to be the hosting of the Olympic Games.

• After the Olympics Games, Melbourne started to be transformed. New buildings were built, there was more traffic. The city started to incorporate different cultures

1962

• Puffing Billy Railway re-opened.

• Monash Uni was opened in the Eastern Suburbs to account for the growing need for tertiary education in Melbourne

1967

• Ronald Ryan was hanged in February 1967. He would be the last man to be legally executed in Melbourne.

Melbourne 1991

In the urban area, the largest PowerStation is the New Port PowerStation, located close to the mouth of the Yarra River the stack of which dominates the skyline of the inner western suburbs.

Melbourne 1996

The docklands had started there development stages and the construction began.

The space remained vacant and unused during the 1980s and it fell in to disrepair. It was used for "special events" during the 1990s, becoming notable for a number of dance and rave parties.

2000

In the year 2000 Melbourne was developing a lot. The city link freeways

were opened, Telstra dome was completed and Bourke street was also

redeveloped.

2006

In the year of 2006 the commonwealth games were held in Melbourne. It was the largest sporting event to be held in Melbourne since the

Olympics in 1956.
