WhyTIMBERHAVEN?
EngineeredThe benefits include:
• Engineered timbers are superior in strength due to the alternating grain of the individual plies.
• Engineered timbers are structurally more stable, and checking – or surface cracking – is virtually eliminated.
• Because it begins with thinner pieces of kiln-dried wood, we are able to better regulate moisture and achieve levels that average 9% moisture content.
• Only the highest grade plies are used, and careful consideration is taken when determining how each ply will be laminated. This provides aesthetically pleasing interior and exterior surfaces while improving material utilization. This makes them an environmentally friendly and renewable building product.
• More timber sizes and options are available within the frame design to not only address the structural requirements but also enhance the interior aesthetics.
Beams & Timbers
Wooden pegs and gusset plates are utilized as a fastening system to secure structural beams where they intersect/abut one another in your timber frame or post and beam home.
WOODEN PEGS (Timber Frame)The 1” diameter wooden pegs are used to secure the handcrafted mortise and tenon joinery in timber frame construction. The pegs provide a clean, unobstructed view of this handcrafted joinery that will aesthetically complement your timber frame home.
GUSSET PLATES (Post and Beam)The metal plates, one placed on each side of a timber member, are through-bolted to secure timbers that abut one another in post and beam construction. The gusset plates are typically painted based on aesthetic preference to contrast the timbers for visual dominance.
Whether you are looking for the old-world charm of mortise and tenon joinery of a traditional timber frame home or for a more industrial look with post and beam, Timberhaven Log & Timber Homes offers a wide variety of options to fit your individual style.
Our kiln-dried engineered beams and timbers offer
a distinctly refined solid wood product for your
timber frame home. These engineered beams and
timbers are created by taking individual 2” thick
boards and laminating them together in our radio
frequency press. The process of laminating results in
a premium grade, structurally stable, virtually check
free engineered cant -- a superior kiln-dried product
with an average moisture content of 9% that is
then milled into beams and timbers. Our craftsman
will then precision cut this material to the required
design specifications of your timber frame home.

1. You’ll want the perfect home plan to complement your piece of property. If you have not already decided on
a home plan, we encourage you to refer to our most popular timber frame designs on our website -- or visit our Design Center for 300+ plan ideas to help you get started. Your local representative can also help develop your timber frame design, or there is always an open invitation to meet with one of our design professionals at our corporate headquarters in Pennsylvania. Collectively, the goal is to help make your unique design a reality.
2. Call your Timberhaven Representative to arrange a personalized home tour and begin planning your
new home. Working together, you will decide on how much home you can afford to build, review materials package options, discuss financing considerations, contractors, and much more. If you’ve selected a timber frame design, your representative will provide price estimates or submit a request for a free detailed estimate. At this point you may also consider attending one of our Planning & Construction Seminars.
3. In these early stages of your planning, set time aside to meet with a financial professional of your choice to
formally qualify you for the purchase of your timber frame home project. Timberhaven wants to work with you within in your qualified / desired budget parameters to be sure that we are guiding you through the process accordingly in order to meet your final expectations.
4. About a week after the initial consultation and submission for a detailed estimate, you will meet again
with your representative to review your estimate, address any necessary plan modifications and submit a $3,000 or $5,000 plan deposit (based on amount of plan customization) to start the preliminary plan and quote process. Your deposit will “freeze” the package price for a period of 6 months. Now, with an actual quote and preliminary plans in hand, you can submit a loan application to your financial institution.
5. Finalize your changes and approve your preliminary plans. Submit either a $4,000 plan deposit or the
balance of a 30% deposit to receive your detailed construction plans and construction manual in approximately 4-6 weeks.
6. It’s time to select a date for your timber frame home package to be delivered. Please allow up to 80-100 days
from the time your 30% deposit is received for delivery. The closing date of your financing needs to be scheduled at least 2 weeks prior to delivery or a minimum of 4-6 weeks if 30% deposit has not been submitted.
7. Lastly, site preparation can be started while Timberhaven Log & Timber Homes begins your material procurement
and handcrafting your new timber frame home package. Final payment is due upon delivery.
Happy building!
