The Transportable Integrated Geodetic Observatory in Concepcin
TheTransportable Integrated Geodetic Observatory (TIGO)observatorywasdevelopedandbuiltinGermanyastransportableandinstallableinregionsstrategicallyselectedtoimprovethecoverageoftheinternationalgeodeticnetworks.
DuringitstwelveyearsofcontinuousoperationinConcepcin,Chile,thecapacitywasprovidedtoimprovethegeodeticinfrastructureinLatinAmericaaregionnotwellcoveredbytheinternationalnetworks.
ResultsoftheTIGOcontributetotheestablishmentandmaintenanceofaccurateglobal,regionalandnationalgeodeticreferenceframes,whicharenecessaryforstudiesofgeodynamics,globalchangeandenvironmentaleffectsinthesolidEarth,theatmosphere,andthehydrosphere.
The M8.8 earthquake on February 27, 2010 registered by CONZ, TIGO
(1) Earthquake began with shock towards the East originated by Nazca plate, (2) the Nazca and South-American plate decouple and release for decades accumulated energy by a 3 meter movement towards the west (= neg. east)(3) rupture is propagating along the Chilean coast and producing seismic waves of several decimeter amplitude.

The Necessary Change
SituationoftheUniversidaddeConcepcinwhichsufferedasevereeconomicalimpactbytheearthquakeonFebruary27,2010requiredtoreducetheTIGOcontribution.
DiscussionofthesituationandalternativesfollowedatBKG. In2011theComplementtotheArrangementforthecooperativeoperationoftheTransportableIntegratedGeodeticObservatory(TIGO)inConcepcinfrom2012until2014wasagreed.
BKGlookedforanalternativesiteinSouth-AmericaandpreparedatransferoftheTIGOcomponentstothenewsiteduringtheagreedperiod.
InOctober2013theArgentineConsejoNacionaldeInvestigacionesCientficasyTcnicas(CONICET)andtheGermanBundesamtfrKartographieundGeodsie(BKG)signedanagreementtoinstallandoperatetheArgentineanGermanGeodeticObservatory(AGGO).
AsaconsequencetheTIGOProjectwillbeclosedbytheendof2014andanewprojectwillbestarted.
DuringthevisitoftheForeignMinistryofChileonthestationTIGOinspring2014itwastoolatetonegotiatecontinuationofTIGOinConcepcion.
BKGcurrentlynegotiateswithacompanyaboutthemoveofTIGO.
Bytheendof2014TIGOwillbemovedfromConcepcintoLaPlataandresumeoperationin2015asAGGO
WearegratefulfortheofferofUdeCtostaylongerifneededbecauseofunforeseeabledelays.
TheroadmapforAGGOcomprisesthreestages:i)transport,installationandestablishmentofnormal
functioningofinstruments(Endof2014tomidof2015);
ii)fulloperationofAGGOinGermanArgentinepartnership(from2015to2018);and
iii)fulloperationofAGGOunderArgentineresponsibility(from2018onward)
