Happy Clipping! Teacher Appreciation Week As we are gearing up for Teacher Appreciation Week we are reaching out to ALL of our families for help. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4-8th. We are going to kick off the week with the teachers and other staff members walking into school on Monday morning to decorated doors. All doors will be done Friday after school from 3:15-5PM. We just want to express our appreciation for the teachers through the people that know them best. The class coordinators will be doing classroom doors, but we need people to help with the other staff members- including the specials, nurse, etc. They can be as simple or as detailed as you want to make them. The theme this year is Hollywood- “Walk of Fame”. If you would like to help us out please let us know ASAP. Below are some examples of doors that have been done. Any questions please contact Haley Blanchard [email protected] or Jen Bauman [email protected].

This is the time of year where we hear more and more issues with social media. I understand that social media is part of our global thread, but I recommend it be monitored closely and securely. I would encourage you not to allow your child to have any personal accounts (especially at this age). I would encourage you to take their cell phone before they go to bed or secure the internet so that certain websites are restricted. I just do not believe elementary students are developmentally ready for social media and/or the responsibility of a cell phone. Many of these students, if not all, just do not understand innuendoes, comments, jokes, and references on the internet. In addition, they just do not realize that once they post a comment it is out there for all to see. There are no ways of taking it back, there are no ways to explain “I was just joking”, and there is no ways for them to explain how they “did it by accident”. With the way the harassment, intimidation, and bullying law is outlined it eventually becomes the school’s prerogative to remedy an issue. This happens once a student states “I do not want to come to school, because…” and they refer to a social media issue that happened outside of school. Below are some sites/apps to discuss with your child (if they are developmentally ready) and resources/strategies that can assist you. Moving forward, parents are the biggest dierence maker in battling cyber-bullying.
