JANUARY-FEBRUARY 2014 FRESH OUT THE STABLE OF THE MONTH Gung Hei Fat Choy! (Happy Chinese New Year) We would like to wish you all a happy new year. We hope 2014 will be and has been good to everyone in our riding community thus far. Also we would like to wish everyone Gung Hei Fat Choy/Gong Xi Fa Cai (Happy Chinese New Year), which this year fell on January 31, 2014. This year is a very special year, especially for our horses and our riders, as it is the YEAR OF THE HORSE! 2014 is the year of the WOOD HORSE, which is said to bring energy to the already fiery horse sign. Get ready to rumble this year, the horse is a mover and a shaker, and is said to be a symbol of travel, speedy success and romance. Good luck for anyone in the business of wood, fire and earth. Our Very First Issue This is the first of a new series of monthly newsletters to start off 2014 fresh, and sum up each month, with a brand new and kicking line of communication between the EFJ board and all of our fellow horse loving members. This newsletter will feature the following sections: Section Feature All that’s new in the EFJ and our horsey world. FRESH OUT THE STABLE SADDLE UP! REARING TO GO! ‘GIDDY’-UP! WHAT ELSE IS KICKING? New EFJ Board
PRESIDENT BETTY WATES
As the new board of the EFJ, we are doing all within our ability to create a positive and noteworthy year for our horses and riders. We would like to invite anyone who would like to volunteer, (riders, non-riders and parents) to contact any of us if you would like to help with any events, activities, etc. If you have any great ideas of how you can help the EFJ, please feel free to get in touch with anyone on the board. Let’s all work together to help to grow, maintain and build our riding community. It is the year of the horse, after all, so lets hit the ground running (or for better words, hit the ground, get the right lead, sit deep in the saddle and keep the canter forward and collected).

VICTORY IN BARBADOS!
Danielle Gore and Charlotte Clivio were invited to Barbados to compete in a 0.7meter under 12 competition on January 25th and 26th. Congratulations to both girls who rode well and made us proud. Danielle Gore was champion over the two-day event, and Charlotte Clivio was a worthy competitor, with a clear round on the first day but was unfortunately not as successful on the second day.

LET THE DRESSAGE BEGIN The first leg of the dressage series will take place on February 8th. Heather Stalker, out of the USA will be
judging the competition. She has judged in both Trinidad and the USA. The venue of the dressage event is yet to be confirmed. It is to be decided between Ponderosa (Bog Walk) and Kingston Polo Club (Caymanas).
We are hoping to run the second leg of the dressage series on February
22nd in preparation for the FEI
Dressage Competition taking place on March 13th, which will be
followed by dressage clinics the following day. This will be finalised when we have confirmation of a judge.
TAMING THE STALLION Monika Maitland-Walker will be hosting a horsemanship demonstration at Annandale, and has
invited all to have a picnic and watch. It is tentatively planned for March 3rd.
This will feature German riding instructor Andrea Orth doing a demonstration on an untrained stallion.
Videos of Andrea Orth can be seen on Youtube under ‘Alicenhof’ or on her website www.alicenof.com. The website is in German, but if you type it into Google, there will be an option to translate the page.
