Soon, cheaper generic drugs at railway stations NEW DELHI, July 19: People can soon buy generic drugs at cheaper prices from rail- way stations, the Government informed Parliament today. The Ministry of Railways has decided to allow its premises to be used for opening Janaushadhi outlets across the country under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana. The campaign has been launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers, to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses through spe- cial outlets "Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers has, in view of Railways' pan-India reach, approached Ministry of Railways for proliferation of such kendras over railway network. The two ministries have, in principle, agreed to set up such kendras at railway premises. Deliberations to work out the modalities between the two min- istries are going on," said Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha. At present, 22 exclusive chemist stalls and 15 chemist corners are operational on the Indian Railways network. Besides, medicines for common ailments and painkillers, which do not normally require doctors' prescription, are also being sold through existing 339 miscellaneous article stalls at various railway stations. (PTI) NEW DELHI, July 19: The number of digital trans- actions, which grew significant- ly in the aftermath of demoneti- sation last year, has started showing a declining trend since March 2017, according to offi- cial data. The number of digital trans- actions has come down from 119.07 crore in March 2017 to 118.01 crore in April and further to 111.45 crore in May, P P Chaudhary, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. The number of digital trans- actions was only at 71.27 crore in October 2016. It went up to 83.48 crore in November 2016 and shot up to 123.46 crore in December 2016. The increase in digital trans- actions was witnessed after demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes on November 8, 2016. These transactions num- bered 114.96 crore in January 2017, and about 101.18 crore in February 2017. To another query whether commission is charged on cash transactions under digital econ- omy, Chaudhary said scheduled commercial banks have the free- dom to levy charges for various services, as per a Reserve Bank of India circular dated July, 2014. (PTI) 859 complaints against IAS officers: Govt NEW DELHI, July 19: A total of 859 complaints were received against the offi- cers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) working across the country, Union minister Jitendra Singh said today. The complaints were received during the year from January 1, 2016 upto June 30, 2017, he said in a written reply in response to a question in Lok Sabha. Of the total complaints, 93 pertain to IAS officers working with the government of Uttar Pradesh, said Singh, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. "Appropriate action can be taken against officials only after the cases reach finality," he said. Rejecting the Government's claim that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir had improved, the party's senior spokespersons, Ghulam Nabi Azad and P Chidambaram, said in a statement that casualties had been reported from the State everyday since July 10. "The Congress repudiates the Government's claim and calls upon the Government to take the nation into confidence and disclose what it is doing to bring about normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir," the two leaders said in the joint statement. Eight pilgrims, six jawans and a child had been killed in July in the State, besides many incidents of clashes between civilians and security forces injuring numerous persons, they pointed out. "Yet the Government claims that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved. Such a claim defies belief and common sense. "The statement made by the Government yesterday is wrong, misleading and clearly at variance with the situation on the ground," Azad and Chidambaram said. The leaders were referring to Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir's reply to a written question in the Lok Sabha on the situation in the State. The Congress has been criti- cal of the Central government as well as the PDP-BJP ruled state government over the handling of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. It also called for tak- ing all parties and stakeholders into confidence to help bring normalcy to the state. The party fears the situation is going out of control in Jammu and Kashmir and has favoured initiation of dialogue with vari- ous stakeholders. Kashmir has been on the boil since the death of terrorist Burhan Wani in an encounter with the police last July. Chidambaram had on Sunday criticised the "maximal- ist" approach of the Central Government in Kashmir. (PTI)
