Odds are also important to consider when choosing your horse. Horses that are thought to have a better chance of winning will typically have lower odds.
Morning line oddsOdds listed in the race program are the “morning line” odds. These are predictions of how the public will bet on the race. They are set by the track’s handicapper when the race program is published, before the wagering starts.
The actual odds will be posted on the Television or in-field on the Tote Board before the race; they change up until post time, depending on how customers are betting on each horse in the race.
Calculating a $2 win prizeTo calculate a win prize, find the Odds of a horse on the Television or Tote Board (in-field board).
Multiply the first number by 2, then divide that number by the second digit (if there is one), and then add $2. Simple as that!
All of the numbers and letters in the program might seem confusing or overwhelming at first, but focusing on these sections makes choosing a horse simple.

Helpful facts for betting• Some racetracks have a television simulcast
commentator who tries to identify winning horses (handicaps) between the races. Listen and see if you can pick up any good tips to bet on.
• A good betting method is to choose horses with current odds two to three times higher than their morning line odds.

Race 1 Selections THE HORSEPLAYERS JOURNAL by Mike Hamilton
10 CANTSTOPTHEFEELIN proved to be the best when she raced here on Friday night and the only reason she is still eligible to this race is because she was entered on Friday morning, just hours before notching that win. We’ll caution that there are few guarantees in horse racing and this race might unfold much differently given that she’s starting from the second tier. If there’s any advantage to this spot it’s that she’s following her stablemate Belle Beach who appears to have some gate speed.
5 SUGAR SHADOW has been sold and has taken up residence in the Colonel Schneider Jr. barn since we last saw her finish fourth in an OSS event under Gregg McNair management. I like the fact that she was as fast as 1:53.4 before taking time off and also that her new trainer has decided to make some changes. She went free-legged (no hopples) in each of her recent qualifiers and that’s the way she’s rigged tonight. It doesn’t mean an awful lot at this point but we’ll add that her dam made $449K and her second dam Legacy Of Fame made $861K.
6 CHASETHECLOUDSAWAY did most of the early work in the 12/20 race that Cantstopthefeelin eventual won so we’ll consider her for a piece. That was just her second start since September so it’s reasonable to expect further improvement.
1 BELLE BEACH was good enough to beat lower level fillies at Flamboro when a 2:01 mile held up on 12/18. She’ll have to drop some serious time to repeat in this race but I do think she’l be a factor with rail control and Jamieson.
ON THIS DATE… 1791 – Charles Babbage (mathematician, philosopher, inventor and mechanical engineer) born in London, England. Although he died many years before it was realized, Babbage is best remembered for coming up with the concept of a programmable computer.

8 HEAD TURNING JAG will have to be an awful lot better than he was in his 12/02 race at this same level and from a similar post. We’re willing to give him one more shot as he can generally be counted on for a good effort when he gets down to this class or even one notch higher. He recently worked a win from 10/07 off the bottom of his last six and if you are to go back another six you’d find another win when he dropped from NW16000L5 to NW10000L5 on 03/18. That might seem like ancient history but it’s because he was unraced between May and September.
7 ANGELS KID has been racing regularly, unlike our top pick who has been off since 12/02, so it wouldn’t hurt to use this guy as an insurance policy. He joined the barn of .306 trainer Gerald Demers after a claim on 12/05 and in two starts for Demers he has handily won a claimer at Flamboro and finished a closing third over this track when asked to go a mile and three-eighths.
6 HETTIES COMMANDER doesn’t look like a serious contender for the win but I can see this 14-time winner closing for a piece, just as he did last time when stretched out to a mile and three-eighths. Even the 12/12 finish was ‘okay’ as he was trapped inside after yielding at the quarter pole.
10 HONOR ABOVE ALL might surprise even though he’s coming off a break and stuck in the second tier. On 12/01 he went coast-to-coast at low odds and on 12/08 it took a heavily favoured and Moreau-trained winner to beat him.

10 PRICELESS SUNSHINE took the short way around the track and actually finished up quite well when he came off the shelf on 12/19. We weren’t expecting too much as he hadn’t raced since July and his 12/05 qualifier was a rather ho-hum affair. To his credit he did pace a mile in 1:55.1 and he did pick off two horses in the last quarter mile. A similar trip should be possible now that he’s starting from the same spot, especially with such a fireball in the #1 slot.
6 NONEYABIZZNESS was a pari-mutuel refund in his most recent when the judges ruled that he had broken equipment before the start. In such cases the starter can sound a recall if he notices the wardrobe malfunction, or is alerted by a driver, or he can simply let them go and let them deal with it upstairs. It’s often in the best interest of all to just let the field go and refund the affected horse rather than force the whole field to pull up, reassemble, and then start a second time. It’s tough to say what this guy would have done had he not suffered a broken overcheck but it’s safe to say that he wouldn’t have been any worse!
8 SLIM SHADY cannot be ignored just because he’s unraced since February. When entered for the first time on 02/14 he was sent off as the favourite and he made good on that promise. He’s now four years of age and still eligible to this class for another week. There’s a possibility that the condition will be changed to allow five-year-olds to start in January but as it stands now his days at NW1 are numbered.
5 EXCELLENT NATION flashed 27.4 speed on the tail end of his 12/19 qualifier and that’s encouraging as they were down to three-quarters in 1:27.3. He was well off the pace, however, so his overall time was 1:55.1 and that stacks up nicely with what we see on this page.

3 TOMY TERROR wasn’t exactly knocking them dead as a member of the Moreau barn so it will be interesting to see if he finds himself now that he has been sent over to Mark Goddard. We don’t normally look to Canada’s top trainer as the source of horses who could be improved upon but this is might be an exception to the rule. He showed some life in his most recent with Jamieson at the lines. Double J is on board once again, just as he was when this horse won a pair for trainer Terry Langille last August. Beware!
2 E L WILD SPIRIT looked like he was going to live up to his 2-1 billing when he opened a couple of lengths with just an eighth to go on 12/13. After that race some probably wrote him off as a serial “quitter” but we took the position in his most recent that he should still be considered since he had missed three weeks going into that 12/13 race. We didn’t list him on top, mind you, but it wasn’t much of a surprise when he won in 1:54.4. He was claimed from that race and the new connections were given the option to scratch from this one without penalty. They said, drive on!
8 UNPRECEDENTED is definitely trifecta material in this race, just as he was on Friday when he made a three-wide move to round out the top three. One drawback is that he’ll likely be raced from the backfield now that he has Post 8.
5 OUTLAW GUNPOWDER got back in a winning frame of mind when down to Flamboro and bet down to even-money on 11/24 so it wasn’t a huge surprise when he returned to Mohawk to beat 8K-10K claimers on 12/02. Neither of his last two leave us very confident but it’s too early to rule out a 45-time winner.

6 ARYA STARK is clearly the one to beat based on what she has done in two preliminary legs. She had to work pretty hard in the first leg but she succeeded in defeating an even-money favourite. Last week she was much the best when Christoforou worked out a pocket trip. Dreamfair Zenfire was induced into cutting that mile and she was gasping at the end while Arya Stark roared away and appeared to have lots left.
2 DREAMFAIR ZENFIRE might get back into win mode if she can turn the tables on Arya Stark but if she ends up cutting this mile and Arya Stark is within earshot at the top of the stretch the result will likely be the same as last time. If forced to pick between Arya Stark and Dreamfair Zenfire, we’ll stick with the one who has yet to be offered in a claimer.
1 GIGGLE HANOVER could not have asked for a nicer trip than the one that Christoforou engineered on 12/06 and even with decent trips she found herself just a step behind Arya Stark and Trip Aces Hanover in two Niagara appearances. Her overall record of 23-2-6-5 suggests that she’s a good bet to hit the board.
5 TRIP ACES HANOVER should be heard from in the last quarter and if she’s as good as last week that should put her in the picture. She’ll have to come up with a much faster last quarter to catch Arya Stark.

6 PIKACHU HANOVER had a five race win streak snapped when he raced here on Friday night (12/20) but it wasn’t by much and he did turn in a pretty good effort to finish neck and neck with the odds-on winner after a heated stretch long battle. We sided with Refi in that race in the belief that Pikachu might need a start when coming off a vet scratch (lame). That wasn’t a big issue in the end so perhaps a win in this second start off the scratch will be in the cards.
1 ZIG ZAG recently came through as expected when he made his second start off a long layup and a winning qualifier. It wasn’t too hard to see that one coming if you watched him finish up in 27.4 just a week earlier and obviously he was pretty good in that second shot at NW2. He prove second best wen he faced the odds-on Lefkada on 12/20. While we firmly believe that “time” is vastly overrated as a handicapping tool, we will point out that Pikachu’s 12/20 race went in 1:56 and Zig Zag’s went in 1:57.4.
8 SUMSECRET hasn’t been seen in these parts since the summer of 2018 when trained by Joseph Parkinson and John Bax. She wasn’t a star then and she isn’t a star now, but she is about to make her first start for a barn that is on a roll with recent winners like Villefranche AS, Buddha Blue Chip, Lyons Pegasus, Lyons Tilt Hanover, etc. This is definitely one to watch even if you don’t dive in just yet.

1 EXIT SMILING doesn’t exactly leap off this page but we’re willing to give him the benefit of the doubt because he’s both fresh and a fresh face. We’ve seen all of the others multiple times and more times than not they’ve found new ways to lose races. Only one of the other nine has a decent win percentage so it would be dangerous to write off this Alberta transplant just because he’s 1-for-15 this year. He has been freshened up and I doubt that experienced horsemen like Fred “Go Go” Gillis and Jamie Gray would send him all this way if they didn’t think he could do in at least the NW3000L5 class. And finally, don’t get too hung up on the fact that he was beaten 20 lengths in a recent qualifier. Open class pacer Sinta won that race by 19 and you won’t find him at this level any time soon.
2 SHADOW OF A DAUT figures prominently in this low-level race, just as he did in the 12/19 race that he controlled from Post 9. We’ll give him high marks for blasting to the top and then battling a pesky Osborne Seelster down the backstretch and around the last turn. He isn’t likely to engage in a battle like once again so a long awaited win seems possible if not even likely. But what will he pay?
5 OSBORNE SEELSTER is likely to find a trip that’s a little less taxing than the one he endured on 12/19. But will a soft trip be enough to produce a win? He’s had a few easy trips this year and he’s in danger of closing out the year without a single win.
8 PHIL THE THRILL is in the same boat as Osborne Seelster in that he’s likely to be a bit closer than he was last time when going a mile and three-eighths and yet hard to back straight up when he’s 0-for-25 in late December.

2 BUDDHA BLUE CHIP came through for us at better than 5-1 when he contested what looked like the most competitive race on the 12/13 program so we’ll gladly go back to him once again. He managed to win that one in a season’s best 1:52.1 even though he started slowly from Post 8 and didn’t squeeze out of a jam until they hit the top of the stretch. He’s had three starts since joining the Goddard barn and the worst he has done is second to Outlaw Gunpowder who simply got the jump on him.
8 OCEANVIEW MAGNUM paid $40.30 when he beat 12K-15K claimers one week ago tonight. If that price seems generous for a horse who won for the 15th time this year, it was! He’s not the type that we ever back with complete confidence but we always consider him and he often delivers with a top-three or top-four finish. At least he has experience at this level whereas our top pick is moving up.
1 ON CRUISE CONTROL picks up Hensley but only because Scott Young dropped him for Validus Deo. This is probably a case of a driver sticking with the horse from the larger stable in hopes of getting more live drives in the future. I do like OCC’s chances of cracking the top three, with or without The Answer.
10 WINDSONG NAPOLEON worked out a ground-saving trip in his latest and the result was a very close second at 64-1. That was the first time that McNair had been on board and he’s back for more tonight. Stranger things have happened!
4 NEEDLECREST didn’t make any impact whatsoever in is most recent but just two back he closed into a slowing pace to put $39 on the board. Yes, he won, but we thought he was very lucky to hold off the fast closing Barn One and we’ve never been accused of having a love affair with Barn One.

7 WINDSUN RICKY deserves to win this year’s Valedictory as he turned in a good effort when favoured in the first leg and perhaps an even bigger effort in the second leg. He didn’t win that second leg (first division), mind you, but that’s only because he endured one of the worst trips imaginable. With something other than a first-over battle through splits like 54.4 and 1:23.1 he stands an excellent chance of adding his name to a list of Valedictory winners that already includes a champion in Cam Fella and a host of very solid racehorses.
8 LYONS PEGASUS was the beneficiary of a ground-saving trip one week ago tonight and the result was a 1:52.2 win. He’s definitely one to consider in this $35K series final but I doubt that he’ll get that same trip now that he starts from Post 8 it’s its debatable if hell be able to hold off a horse like Windsun Ricky if he is sent to the top and we get a repeat of the 12/12 race in which Ricky came off cover.
6 CHEDAR BAY didn’t get a cheque when he flashed a 26 second last quarter on 12/12 and even the 27.1 last quarter on 12/19 wasn’t enough to win. It did prove that he’s competitive this this bunch and possibly good enough get by them all if things get wild in the middle stages which can happen when “added money” is on the line.

9 BETSEA was good enough to win at this same level and from this same challenging post on 12/14 and again on 12/20 so we must be prepared for a third straight win. We cautioned last week that she might have to work a little harder with one like Walk On Air in the mix but that wasn’t an issue when the chalky Walk On Air made a break going to the quarter.
1 SHESONEHOTWRITER wasn’t as effective as Betsea when they raced in two legs of the Harvest and she failed to get a cheque when they squared off on 12/06. However, she was much better last time out when she passed at least one horse at every call and finished up on the winner’s wheel. She’ll get it done one of these times!
3 BIG NARANCIA is moving up from the NW1 class where she as definitely the best on 12/20. It’s important to note that she was facing just seven others who all fit that class, including one who was 0-for-16 and another who was 1-for-26. This is a tougher assignment and 1:56.3 isn’t likely to cut it.
5 SHEBESAILIN had a brutal trip last when she was an eased-up 10th on 12/14 so it wasn’t a huge surprise that she managed to hit the board when treated to a much more favourible inside trip on 12/20. 6 MILITARY SECRET poses a big threat to the local NW2 set as he has been up as high as the NW5 class at Harrah’s Philadelphia and as fast as 1:50.2 on not one but two occasions when he raced over the red clay in Lexington. Owner Brad Grant picked him up at the Harrisburg Mixed Sale in November for $57K. I like what I see on paper and his future looks even brighter when you consider that an older sister named Bedroomconfessions made $300K as a Þve-year-old and over $1 million lifetime. He didnÕt Þ t with the program in the Alagna camp but he’s a very nice addition to the Ben Wallace barn. Have a look!
5 BIG MACHIN JIM didn’t get any ink going into his 12/13 race as he was moving up to NW2 and shunted out to Post 8. We Þgured that heÕd Þ le to the back and be hard-pressed to make up much ground with a horse like Pogey Beach in control. Well, Pogey Beach won handily as the 3-5 favourite, but Big Machin Jim turned heads with his 27.2 last quarter and impressive rally into third. It would be nice to know what he did on 12/21 but we didn’t have that luxury wen submitting picks on the morning of 12/21.
9 J M MANDAMIN is a stablemate of Big Machin Jim and on 12/13 he looked like the more likely winner of the two. IÕll give him credit for making late gains but like Bib Machin Jim, IÕd like to know what he did on 12/21 before calling on him to win from Post 9. Top three is the best we can do under the circumstances.
1 DONT DILLY DALLY has made the pivot from restricted claimer to the NW2 class. I just don’t see a $15K claimer beating a horse that recently sold for $57K but I suppose anything’s possible wen one has been racing all along and the other is coming off a near two month absence.

4 SLY ELEANOR N has been sold and moved to the Gary Lance barn since we last saw her finish sixth on 11/22. She didn’t get a cheque in that race even though she fanned wide and paced her last quarter in 27 flat. A week earlier she was a lot closer to the pace and a 27.1 last quarter got her second money behind Pretty Hot who had just won for the second time in a row. Eleanor has been on a light schedule of late and that could work against her or it just might be what the doctor ordered. Note that this is her first start on Lasix. We’ll list her as our final Spot Play of the year.
1 KAYS SHADOW looks like another major player in the NW3000L5 class for fillies and mares, She faced similar on 12/20 and wound up second at 10-1. What was particularly encouraging about that race was that she paced home in 27.3 which was just 2/5th shy of the bullet for that Friday evening program.
9 DONTBRUISECARRIE has returned to the Louie Eftimiadis operation after a long stint in Michigan and Ohio with trainer Steve Novak. We saw this same situation back in January 2018 (almost two years ago) when she won second time for Eftimiadis at a generous 19-1. More of the same seems possible, although we’d feel a bit better about her if she wasn’t 1-for-32 on the year.
7 TAKEYOURBREATHAWAY is yet another Louie Eftimiadis pupil who might be a bit better than her 1-for-41 record would suggest. She’ll need something other than the extended first-over trip that she endured on 12/20 when bet down to 9-2.

Smoking RegulationsThe Government of Ontario is committed to improving the health of residents through the implementation of the Smoke-Free On-
tario Act. Recent changes to the Act, which came into effect on January 1, 2015, further restrict the use of tobacco products in res-taurants and bar patios. Smoking is now prohibited in all areas where food is served or sold or offered for consumption or in areas
that are operated in conjunction with an area where food and drink is served or sold. The City of Toronto has also enacted restrictions on smoking in public places by requiring that smoking is not permitted within a 9
metre radius of an entrance or exit to a public building. Please refer to signage posted throughout the facility and the site to determine where smoking is permitted.
In the unlikely event that bets can not be combined into a hosttrack’s pools before the end of a race, Federal Regulations requirethat such bets must be refunded. Refunding bets at some sitescan affect odds and payouts at the remaining sites.
PLEASE NOTE:

EXPLANATION OF THE LASIX PROGRAMAfter careful study and consultation with Ontar io Horsemen’s groups, racetrack operators and veterinarians, Agriculture Canada and theAlcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario passed legislation allowing the controlled (or supervised) administration of furosemide, more commonly called“Lasix”. “Lasix” is used to alleviate the symptoms of exercise induced pulmonary hemorrhaging in racing horses.Horses will undergo an endoscopic examination of the trachea by a veterinarian licensed by the Ontario Racing Commission and endorsedby an official veterinarian before being allowed on the medication list. Once qualified, horses will be treated with “Lasix” within four hoursplus or minus 15 minutes of a scheduled race in a secure retention area under the super vision of racing officials. All horses on “Lasix” must remain on the program for a minimum of 100 days while racing in this jurisdiction. Smoking RegulationsThe Government of Ontario is committed to improv-
ing the health of residents through the implementation of the Smoke-Free Ontario Act. Recent changes to the Act, which came into effect on January 1, 2015,
further restrict the use of tobacco products in restau-rants and bar patios. Smoking is now prohibited in all areas where food is served or sold or offered for con-sumption or in areas that are operated in conjunction with an area where food and drink is served or sold. The City of Toronto has also enacted restrictions on smoking in public places by requiring that smoking is not permitted within a 9 metre radius of an entrance
or exit to a public building. Please refer to signage posted throughout the facility and the site to determine where smoking is permitted.
THE MORNING LINE reflects the track oddsmaker’sestimate of what each horse’s odds will be at post time. The actual
odds are established by the amounts wagered by the public on each horse in the win pool.

RULES AND INFORMATION REGARDING CANADIAN HARNESSAND FOREIGN SEPARATE POOL EVENTS
GENERAL All pari-mutuel pools are calculated and distributed in accordance with the regulations and directives as issued by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (“the Regulations”), under the approval and supervision of the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency. The Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency can be contacted at 1-800-268-8835 or 613-759-6100 or Email: [email protected]. A complete version of the CPMA regulations can be found at http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-91-365/All tickets should be held until the result of the race is declared official and prices are posted. No person under the age of 18 shall purchase or cash a ticket or voucher. A claim of receiving an incorrect payment or incorrect change must be made to the Mutuel office of the association within twenty four hours of buying or cashing a valid ticket or voucher. No ruling made by the Stewards/Judges or the Ontario Racing Commission with regard to distribution of purse money or the placing of horses in the order of finish, after the race has been declared official, shall have any bearing on the pay-out prices or distribution of pari-mutuel pools. Change boards and Photo Finish display monitors are located in the Grandstand. In addition, Photo Finish pictures are shown on the closed-circuit television system. Customers are reminded that mutuel clerks are responsible for all shortages. When making a wager, customers must present sufficient funds at the time of purchase to cover the wagers requested. ENTRIES AND MUTUEL FIELDS “Entry” means two or more horses in the same race which, for the purpose of pari-mutuel betting, are coupled or considered as the same betting interest. The most common reason for the coupling of horses in an Entry is the fact that they are owned by the same person. “Mutuel Field” means two or more horses in the same race which, for the purpose of pari-mutuel betting, are coupled because the number of horses in the race exceeds the number which can be handled separately by the pari-mutuel system. Subject to the Regulations, a bet on one horse of an Entry or Mutuel Field shall be considered a bet on all horses in that Entry or Mutuel Field. DAILY DOUBLE BETTING (INCLUDING LATE DOUBLE) A Daily Double bet is a betting transaction in which a purchaser of a ticket undertakes to select the official winners of each of the two races specified for the Daily Double. Tickets not selecting the winner of the first half of the Daily Double and all tickets in the second half of the Daily Double not coupled with the declared official winner of the first half of the Daily Double are not winners and are not refunded no matter what circumstances affect the running of the second half of the Daily Double. Should a horse or horses (not coupled with another starter) be excused from starting in the second race of the Daily Double after the first race of the Daily Double has closed for betting, holders of all Daily Double tickets on such horses, coupled with the winner of the first Daily Double race, shall participate in a Consolation Double pool. (Effective Jan 1, 2012 EXACTA (Also known as Exactor)/TRIFECTA (Also known as Triactor)/SUPERFECTA An Exacta, Trifecta, Superfecta is a betting transaction in which a purchaser of a ticket undertakes to select the first two, three and four horses respectively, representing different betting interests to finish in the exact official order of finish, in the race on which the pool is operated. The above stated pools on races that have an entry (i.e. 1 & 1A and/or 2 & 2B) will not offer a wager combining both halves of the same betting interest. Example: If the same betting interest finishes first and second in an Exacta wager, the Exacta payout will be on first and third. JACKPOT HI-5 A Jackpot Hi-5 bet is a betting transaction in which a purchaser of a ticket undertakes to select the exact order of finish of the first 5 runners in the specified Jackpot Hi-5 race. If there are races that have an entry, (i.e. 1 & 1A and/or 2 & 2B), Jackpot Hi-5 will not offer a wager consisting of both halves of the same betting interest. Example: If the same betting interest finishes first and second in a Jackpot Hi-5, the payout would be 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th. That jackpot portion of the pool will only be paid out if there is a single winning ticket. If there are multiple winning tickets that have correctly chosen the first 5 runners of the race, they will receive 50% of the pool for that day. The other 50% will go over into the Jackpot carryover. If there are no winning tickets with the exact order of finish of the first 5 runners, 100% of the current day’s pool will be carried over into the Jackpot. PICK 3, PICK 4 AND PICK 5 BETTING The Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 bets are betting transactions in which a purchaser of a ticket undertakes to select the official winners of each of three, four or five successive races specified for the Pick 3, Pick 4 or Pick 5 respectively. Winning tickets for the Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 are determined in the following sequence: A) winners of all legs, B) most winners, then refund. If there is a change of surface in any leg that is NOT made known to the public prior to wagering for that pool closing, that leg will pay on all runners. If there are no winners in any leg of a pool, the entire pool is refunded. PICK 3, PICK 4 & PICK 5 SCRATCHES In the event a Pick 3, Pick 4 or Pick 5 ticket designates as a selection a horse which is scratched, excused or determined by the Stewards/Judges to be a non-starter in any of the races comprising the Pick 3, Pick 4 or Pick 5 the favourite, as evidenced by the amount wagered in the win pool at the time of the start of the race in which the scratch occurred, will be substituted for the non-starting selection. In the event that the money bet in the win pool for two or more favourites is identical, the selection with the lowest program number shall be substituted for the non-starting selection. However, if a scratch occurs in any leg of the Pick 3, Pick 4 or Pick 5 pools before the pool is closed, a ticket including the scratched horse may be cancelled. REFUNDS Subject to the Regulations, all monies in all pools on a race are refunded in the event that the race is cancelled, declared off or declared no contest, and all monies bet on a horse are refunded if the horse is a late scratch or does not receive a fair start. These refunds will be communicated to the public through various means such as betting terminals, video display, changes boards and our website. The Pick(n) pool shall be cancelled and all Pick(n) wagers for the individual performance shall be refunded if:
• Pick-3: at least 2 legs are declared no contest or cancel. (Effective Jan 1, 2012) • Pick-4, 5 or 6: at least 3 legs are declared no contest or cancel. (Effective Jan 1, 2012)
Where a horse that is part of an Entry is a late scratch or does not receive a fair start and at least one horse of that Entry receives a fair start in the race, all tickets purchased on the Entry remain valid and the purchase price of any such ticket shall not be refunded. COMMON POOL WAGERING (INTERTRACK BETTING) In the unlikely event of a communications or computer system failure that prevents pools from merging with the host track’s pools before the end of a race, CPMA regulations require that the site must refund all tickets for that race. This refund will be communicated to the public through various means such as video displays, change boards and messages on our website. FAIR START If a horse has reached the Fair Start Pole (located 200 feet before the Starting Pole) by the time the mobile gate has reached the Starting Pole, that horse is deemed to have had a fair start. It makes no difference whether or not the horse is on or off stride at that precise moment. Under current policy and regulations, which are designed to be as fair as possible to all bettors on all starters, there is no Recall - a repeat of the entire starting procedure - when a horse does not reach the Fair Start Pole before the gate reaches the Starting Pole. Monies bet on such a horse are refunded in accordance with the regulation concerning refunds.
