Expert - Phonics
Practice another sound you find tricky and write it in your pink book. Can you spell words with that sound?
For example:
oy, oy, oy, oy
boy, toy, annoyed, oyster, enjoy…… challenge: Put it in a sentence!
Practice a word you find tricky on the common exception word mat in different sizes in your pink book. Complete this
WORD WIZARD strategy of the day.
Look at the spelling chart. Can you practice writing different words
with the sounds you find tricky?
For example, Jug
Fudge(both make the ‘j’ sound but spelt
differently).
Can you write these words correctly in your
pink books?
Can you now apply the words into sentences? Experts you should be using one conjunction in your sentence and
expanded noun phrase.
E.G. I know the outdoor
gnome is delicate and harmless so they are
the greatest gifts.
Remember to extend your sentence with a

Finally have a go at dictation in your pink books. Write this passage out in your best handwriting. The Next slide will tell you the answer!

They are action words or doing words.We call them verbs

Just like jumping skipping and talking.
Can you think of anymore and give them a

What else do you notice about
these verbs?
They all use the –ing suffix.
Remember, when you are adding –ing to a verb…
If the word ends in an ‘e’
• You take off the e and add
–ing.
• For example;
• Bake … bake + ing = baking
• Escape…escape+ing=escaping
If the word ends in a vowel then consonant
(any letter other than a,e,I,o,u)
• You need to double the consonant.
• For example;
• Hop + p + ing=hopping
• Run + n + ing = running
Key:
Vowel: a,e,I,o,u
Consonant: Any other letters in the alphabet b,c,d,f,g,h,j,k,l,m,n,p,q,r,s,t,v,w,x,y,z

Extend: Can you include an adjective to make your writing more descriptive? For example, The dirty man is digging.
• Experts: Can you write 3 extended sentences using verbs to describe what each character is doing?
Extend: Can you include an adverb to describe the verb. For example, The boy is jumping quickly.
