Remember, when you are adding –ing to a verb…

If the word ends in an ‘e’

• You take off the e and add

–ing.

• For example;

• Bake … bake + ing = baking

• Escape…escape+ing=escaping

If the word ends in a vowel then consonant

(any letter other than a,e,I,o,u)

• You need to double the consonant.

• For example;

• Hop + p + ing=hopping

• Run + n + ing = running

Key:

Vowel: a,e,I,o,u

Consonant: Any other letters in the alphabet b,c,d,f,g,h,j,k,l,m,n,p,q,r,s,t,v,w,x,y,z
