SCHOOL SPEECH FINALISTS Our school speech finalists; Mia Bradley. Deveshi Arora and Shirin Chivate recently competed in the Kahui Ako local schools speech competition. They spoke confidently and expressively about issues young people face and in Shirin's case, she took us on a space voyage.sharing.her love of the planets and what's beyond. The competition was really strong but we were delighted that Deveshi was awarded 3rd place. Well done girls! Thursday 29 th November 2018 Dear Parents, Caregivers and Whānau, This year’s Carnival was superbly organised but the one thing that we could not control was the weather! Thank you to everyone who supported us through the day by either volunterring or spending money. The feeling was the event was still a success and there were lots of happy smiling faces enjoying the experience. Of course we won’t have raised anywhere near the usual amount of money which is unfortunate but it is the first Carnival to be seriously affected by the weather in more than a decade so we can’t be ungrateful. We hope to provide everyone with the total money raised before the end of the year. FAB Chairperson Annette Bradley has informed us that this was the last year of her holding this position which is a shame for us but totally understandable. Annette has done a superb job of leading this group for several years and was a very active PTA member before this so she has certainly ‘done her bit’. Annette tells us she is still available to help but from everyone here Annette, thank you for all your hard work over the years. Dear Parents, Caregivers and Whānau,

This year’s Carnival was superbly organised but the one thing

that we could not control was the weather! Thank you to

everyone who supported us through the day by either

volunterring or spending money. The feeling was the event

was still a success and there were lots of happy smiling faces

enjoying the experience. Of course we won’t have raised

anywhere near the usual amount of money which is

unfortunate but it is the first Carnival to be seriously affected

by the weather in more than a decade so we can’t be

ungrateful. We hope to provide everyone with the total money

raised before the end of the year.

FAB Chairperson Annette Bradley has informed us that this

was the last year of her holding this position which is a shame

for us but totally understandable. Annette has done a superb

job of leading this group for several years and was a very active PTA

member before this so she has certainly ‘done her bit’.

Annette tells us she is still available to help but from everyone

here Annette, thank you for all your hard work over the years. Neil Robinson Principal

From Craig Holt – Chairperson of the Blockhouse Bay School Board of Trustees The Board of Trustees would just like to extend a huge thank you to the FAB, staff, and parent volunteers for all of their organisation for the carnival over the weekend. Although the weather didn’t play its part it was fantastic to see all of the people turn out to support their children and the school. There was still a great buzz around many of the stands and I know that the children I spoke with had a great time performing in front of proud parents and community. Although it is hard to thank individuals when there are so many people involved, a special mention needs to go to Annette Bradley who will be stepping down this year as the chairperson for the FAB. We will all look forward to hearing what was raised on the day, and although this is a key part of why we run the carnival, getting the community together is also reward in itself. I know the FAB are on the lookout for new members, so if you are able to contribute to the planning and organisation of next year’s event please watch for details of our first FAB meeting in February.

HIRING OF POOL KEYS The school pool is open for use and we have the heat pumps working to warm up the water. Rimu children will be swimming next week so parents are asked to send them to school with togs and towel each day. Kowhai children will be swimming in the final week of term.

Hiring a pool key gives families the opportunity to swim in the school pool after school, on the weekends, right through the summer holidays until the end of March, at no extra cost.

To get a copy of the hireage rules and to pay your money, please contact the school office staff. Pool keys will be on sale at a cost of $170 each, with $50 being returned when the key comes back to school at the end of the season.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CHECKED THE FOUND PROPERTY? Please check the large group of clothing items that are in the Lost Property room. All items left after the 13th December that are un-named, will be given away as we do not want to be storing these until next year.

2018 YEARBOOKS FOR SALE These are always a very popular memento of the school year and are in hot demand. Every child features in the Yearbook and children love looking back at the highlights from their year at school. Order forms were sent home last week but feel free to contact the office if it did not make it home. Yearbook purchases are on a first come first served basis and cost $25 each. We expect the 2018 Yearbook to arrive at school on or around the 10th December and we will send them home with the children as soon as they get here.

SCHOOL CROSSING PATROL HELPERS 2019 Every morning between 8.10am and 8.50am we have a parent help supervise the school crossing. We are now looking for volunteers to help with this in 2019. If you can spare a morning once a week to come and help please leave a message at the school office and Helen Addison will contact you about this.

2019 CAMP FOR CURRENT YEAR 5 CHILDREN – permission forms A reminder to parents of year 5 children that we would like all camp permission forms returned to the school tomorrow. Please contact your child’s teacher if you need another form or if you have any questions about this exciting experience that is likely to be one of the highlights of their final year at Blockhouse Bay School.

INTER-SCHOOL ATHLETICS

Parents of the children involved are reminded that our postponement day is tomorrow Friday 30th November.

The children can arrive in their sports uniforms and wear them all day. If there is a cancellation, we will text everyone as soon as we find out.

BLOCKHOUSE BAY SANTA PARADE - SATURDAY 8TH DECEMBER

Would you like your child to part of our Blockhouse Bay Primary School Float at the Santa Parade?

A notice has gone home today with the details. Please return this to the school office by Monday 3rd December.

We are dressing in Christmas themed colours and decorations.

TREAT DAY – Thursday 13th December (no charge) On the second to last day of the year, we like to give the children the opportunity to spend time together in a social situation as a reward for all the hard work they have done. The children can wear mufti (they must still bring a hat) and at some stage, they will spend time with their classmates watching a movie. Given the amount of money that parents have given to the school across the year, there is no charge to families.

In breaking news, the FAB have some left over sausages from the Carnival and will be giving these away (no charge) to the children on the day also at no cost. (see PTA note below)

SCHOOL CLOSES FOR THE YEAR ON Friday 14th December AT 1.30pm Please ensure that you have made arrangements

for your children from this time. (no after school care on this day)

今年学校最后一天,十二月十四号周五下午一点半 1:30pm放学。
