Teams are required to work together on a Long Term Challenge for six weeks without assistance from teachers, parents or peers. They are encouraged to explore possibilities and experiment with ideas as they endeavor to produce their best possible solution. They develop a creative and original way to communicate this solution to others, working within predefined parameters such as limited materials, complex challenge criteria and the deadline of Tournament Day. The teams must also participate in an unseen Spontaneous Challenge on Tournament Day. This challenge requires rapid interchange of ideas, the ability to think creatively and well developed group cooperation skills. Last Saturday both TOM teams participated in the Riverina finals in Wagga. The teams won their categories and will compete in the State final in Sydney on Sunday, 15 September at the University of NSW. This is an outstanding achievement and I congratulate all students for their commitment to TOM. Mrs Ward must be recognised for providing extensive additional learning opportunities for the students after school and during the weekend to prepare them for the TOM finals. Revised Enrolment Policy The enrolment policy communicates a transparent enrolment process to staff and the community. The policy was revised and is designed for schools to manage all enrolment applications, encourage greater consistency in decision- making and make sure the enrolment choices are clear for parents. ALL students living within the Thurgoona Public School zone are eligible to enrol at Thurgoona Public School. An Enrolment Policy information pamphlet has been attached to this newsletter.
