  2. 2. REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL We were given a list of requirements and criteria for the mechosystem Purpose was to develop a system that accurately displays mechanical engineering to all audiences Educate all members of the audience Leave a positive impression on the public Encourage interaction with audience Utilize a 2.5 diameter ball at a specified speed
  3. 3. DESCRIPTION After the engine dissection, we decided to use engine parts in our mechosystem, to educate the public about machines they interact with every day, but perhaps take for granted.
  4. 4. SYSTEM COMPONENTS Smoke Machine Activated by the ball Turns off after a minute of inactivity Has a drain valve for un- used fluid DRAIN FLOW MAIN FLOW
  5. 5. SYSTEM COMPONENTS Crankshaft 1. Pistons 2. Connecting rod 3. Gear Connecting to camshaft 1 3 2
  6. 6. SYSTEM COMPONENTS Camshaft 4. Gear connecting to crankshaft 5. Cam lobes 6. Push rods 7. Piston Chamber 4 6 57
  7. 7. SYSTEM COMPONENTS TOP VIEW FRONT VIEW PISTON CHAMBER INTAKE VALVE EXHAUST VALVE PUSH ROD
  8. 8. SAMPLE ANIMATION
  9. 9. SUMMARY The mechosystem exemplifies real life applications Familiarity of engines helps relate to audience Interactive experience creates interest in system
