RIGOR, RIGOR THAT’S OUR GOAL, WHOEVER HAS GRIT WILL SURELY GROW!

The Lady Valiant Knights smashed different competitors and finished First

Runner-Up in the BCPRISA Volleyball Tournament, Women’s Category of Cluster I,

August 23-24.

The team was composed of the following players who exhibited

determination to excel in the said competition: Rosh Shekinah Macalalad (Eighth

Grader), Willan Maei Uy, Regina Marie Ebreo, Zhyrine Datinguinoo, Carla

Lorraine Len Delas Alas (all Nineth Graders),

Lady Valiant Knights’ thrive in BCPRISA Volleyball Tournament

and Raylle Castillo (Eleventh Grader).

Grit and Growth Mindset were truly

observed by the players as they rose up

from defeat against the players of Golden

Gate Colleges with the score 2-1 in favor of

the latter team. After the said downfall, the

Lady Valiant Knights became more

determined to win which resulted to a

success in their match against the players of

Carmel School. The school’s team

dominated and won both of the two sets.

Moreover, the burning desire of the team to achieve was sustained until the

third game in which the Valiant Knights faced the contenders from Divine Child

Academy. The Lady Knights won two sets which brought them to the championship

game against the players from GGC. After the championship game, SSIS finished First

Runner-Up.

Meanwhile, the team was trained by the school’s volleyball coach, Coach

Meo Talain and was assisted by the school’s Sports Coordinator, Sir Ythan Escamillas.

Scholastic Readers’ Cup. Being recognized in a locally acclaimed publication is

another achievement for the school, since it indicates that SSIS is acknowledged not

only in the community but nationally as well.

“Our students are our best assets.” Thus, always claimed by Sir AC Calado,

the school’s Principal. This only means that the school achieved and will continuously

achieve because of its students who possess strong drive to excel.

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who was behind this recent feat!

After receiving another 6 years of accreditation from WASC, Stonyhurst Southville International School will once again subject itself

to another highly recognized accreditation. The school prepares for its

journey towards International Organization for Standardization

(ISO) 9001:2015 Certification. The ISO International Standards

ensure that services are safe, reliable, and of good quality. Hence, being ISO Certified will prove that the school is truly giving nothing but

the best international education to its students.

In order to prepare for this significant endeavor, SSIS declares September 7, Friday an ISO day. There were no classes for the day

was spent by the teachers for meeting ISO Accreditation consultant and for preparing pertinent documents. The ISO Day is only first of the

many steps that the school will undertake in the entire process of certification.

Having the ISO Day also hit two birds with one stone since the school can prepare for the said accreditation while the students can

maximize their time in preparing for the up coming long tests.

We would like to remind all the students who got forms for the G.E.M. Project to accomplish the form

and submit it to the Principal’s Office on or before September 21, 2018. The Growing the Extra Mile (GEM)

Project is an original project conceptualized, designed, and accomplished by any SGEN student (from

Grade 1 to 12), documented through a video presentation.

The G.E.M. Project could be a concrete evidence of acquiring knowledge and learning new skills

through perseverance and commitment to achieve. Thus, what are you waiting for? Take this opportunity

to shine the brightest! Join the G.E.M. Pro and show everyone that you are capable of achieving more.

Career Orientation is a

career development

instructional guidance

program designed to prepare

students to have a greater

understanding of educational

and career opportunities and

options. The Guidance Office

of SSIS organizes the activity

to assist the students in

making meaningful career

choices.

As technology evolves and the cyberspace bursts more

information, the Generation X are bombarded with

thousands of career opportunities that make it difficult for

them to choose. With this, the resource speakers from the

fields of Education, Medicine, and Business in the Career

Orientation set this September 8, from 8:00 am to 12:00 nn.

at the SSIS Main Hall, are duty-bound to give the Junior

High School and Senior High School students some insights

on the challenges and rewards of the career path they choose.

A number of technologies have emerged that is

changing our routines and trend. Social media tools like

blogs, discussion boards, instant messaging, Facebook,

and YouTube as well as electronic mail are drawing

people into reading information online, interacting,

sharing documents and photos. Popular among the

younger generation, these tools are also being used by

businesses to distribute electronic materials, develop

trainings, seminars, and distribute company news and

presentations.

With regard to this, SSIS would like to know

how many are interested in receiving the SP Bulletin

and Academic Weekly Planner (AWP) through email.

Kindly indicate in the reply slip if you prefer to receive a

copy of the SP Bulletin through email or if you would

like to continuously receive a physical copy of it. This is

being done in order for the school to determine the

preference of each and everyone.

OF THE WEEK

Respecting and Accepting Each Other’s Uniqueness

PARENTING CORNER HOW TO HELP STUDENTS PREPARE FOR EXAMS

Taking an exam can be a nerve-racking experience for the

students, but they do not have to feel anxious or upset about the

exam. To help your child prepare, you should educate yourself about

the test. While you can't take your child's exam for them, you can

help them study and provide a supportive environment. Reassure

your child about the exam so that they do not become anxious. On

the day of the exam, make sure that they are well-rested and well-

prepared. Furthermore, the following are some other ways on how

you can help your child be ready for the Long Tests next week.

1. Give your child lots of ideas of how they can study based on different

learning styles. Talk about lots of different ways to study and encourage

your child to figure out what works best for him or her.

2. Narrow down the topics. Narrowing down the topics always helps to

give students a clearer view of what’s going to be on their exam.

3. Make sure that your child has a complete list of the topics for review.

A list gives your child something to check-off. Throughout your review

time, encourage your child to mark their topic list, crossing-off things that

they already know and highlighting or putting a star by things they know

they need to study.

4. Have your child complete worksheets. Give the students worksheets to

complete and review the materials that they used during quizzes or

exams.

5. Give your child a practice exam. This is a great way to help students

diagnose how prepared they are. Typically, the last review day is the

perfect time to give a practice exam. After accomplishing the exam, it

will help your child a lot if you will go back to the numbers in which he or

she had difficulty with.
