Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and stu- dent engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 22 rd July to Sunday 11 th August. The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be ac- cessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tab- lets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek. The survey results will be reported back to the school at the end of September. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information. Review of School Language Program Thomastown Primary School regularly reviews our school programs and this term we are reviewing the language program we provide for our students. It is a requirement of all Victorian primary schools that a language be taught. In 2016 TPS introduced AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language). Before 2016, TPS did not offer any language program for our students. Continued on next page…. FRIDAY 26th July 2019 CURRICULUM DAY No school for students

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome Back It was wonderful to see everyone so refreshed and happy to be back at school. I was lucky
enough to have an extended holiday and I have to say that I found it very difficult to come back
to a Melbourne winter after spending three weeks in the 37 – 38 degrees of the European sum-
mer.
As educators it makes us very happy to have so many children tell us that they missed being at
school during the holidays.
Parent Opinion Survey 2019
WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent
Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that

gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and stu-
dent engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school
planning and improvement strategies.
Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All
responses to the survey are anonymous. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted
from Monday 22rd July to Sunday 11th August.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be ac-
