The Lord Regretted There are several instances where the Almighty God was
grieved or regretted over human being. He grieved about individuals,
a group and even the whole human race. After the fall of man, by the
time of Noah we read that God regretted creating man.
“The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth,
and his heart was deeply troubled” Gen. 6:6. So he brought punish-
ment on the man and destroyed everyone except the family of Noah.
Noah found favor in the sight of God and his family was chosen to
create a new group of people for the Lord. He hoped this would be a
people who would live according to his plans and would serve his pur-
poses. They did not have a king like other people did. God raised up
leaders for them from time to time and God himself was their King.
As time passed they wanted a king to rule over them like everybody
else. God’s instruction and Samuel’s pleading would not change their
heart. They were adamant about having human king. God very reluc-
tantly granted them a king. However, Saul who was made king would
not follow God’s instructions passed on to him by Prophet Samuel. He
began to act on his own and his people’s will and God said, “I re-
gret that I have made Saul king, because he has turned away from
me and has not carried out my instructions” 1 Samuel 15:11.
God’s creation turned away from him and grieved his heart. His
chosen people and their king grieved him. We can understand a man
grieving because he is not strong and powerful like God to withstand
the evil. We can understand man having second thoughts, regretting
certain actions. But God the Almighty One, grieving, regretting, turn-
ing his face away. Oh, how tender is the Father’s heart, how caring is
he, how loving is he to grieve over the conduct of man. My miscon-
duct, my turning away from him, my lack of love, my lack of devo-
tion, my sin grieves the Father’s heart.
At this present age he has chosen us to be his people and he
paid a huge price for us. Would it be possible that God would say that
he regrets choosing this generation (you and me) to be his people?
It is my desire that God would not say about you and me what
he said about Saul; rather he would say, “this is my son/daughter in
whom I am well-pleased. Would you take a moment to ponder if
there is anything in your life that would grieve the heart of our Fa-
ther?
Please pray for:
Mrs. Marykutty Thomas (Sist. Suja’s Mom), Pr. Mathew Samuel,
Bro. Babu Thannickal, Sist. Shiny Chacko, Sam Mathew, Ammini
