Spiritual well-being assessment

Make plans to attend the next administrative board meeting on Sunday, May 21. This meeting will also be a charge confer-ence to approve Caroline Archer as a candidate for ministry. The meeting will take place in Parker Hall immediately fol-lowing the 10:30 worship service. Meal reservations are re-quired and can be made by contacting Deborah Arnold (615-383-0832, ext. 20) no later than noon on Wednesday, May 17. Per our Book of Discipline, the purpose of the administrative board is to plan a program of nurture, outreach, and witness; implement the plan; provide an administrative infrastructure; align the plan with the mission of the church; evaluate the ef-fectiveness of the plan; and act as the administrative agency of the charge conference.

Claire Smith will graduate from Harpeth Hall and attend Washington & Lee University as a Johnson Scholar in the fall. She has been a member of BUMC since baptism and has enjoyed participating in youth group, choir, Edgehill tutoring, and church basketball. She is currently vice president of her senior class, president of the Cum Laude Society, a member of the Honor Council, a member of Global Scholars and a National Merit finalist. Claire has a passion for running and has been a member of several track and cross country state championship teams at Harpeth Hall and plans to continue running track and cross country at W&L.

Cullen McAnally is graduating from Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet High School for the Health Sciences and Engineering on the Historic Campus of Pearl High (yes that’s the actual name) and will be attending Haverford College this fall. He has participated in Belmont’s youth group and the Open Door Singers since the seventh grade and enjoyed being a part of mission trips and the annual choir tour. At MLK, he was part of the school’s writing center, cross country team, and wind ensemble.

Darryl Jackson is graduating from Brentwood High School. His favorite sport to play is basketball, and he has been playing since the first grade. He has been truly blessed to further his education and basketball career at Fisk University. When not playing basketball he loves to hang out with friends and play video games. Darryl also likes to spend time with family and participate in choir and youth. He was born and raised in Tennessee, the oldest of four. One word of advice from Darryl to younger people: “Don’t take time for granted because before you know it you’ll be in the same position as I am, getting ready to walk across the stage to receive your diploma.”

Joe Henry is a senior at Hillsboro High School, where he has been active in Youth in Government, Marching Band, and HHS Players. Joe’s parents, Mollie and David, have been members of Belmont UMC since before Joe was born, and in the past 18 years Joe has been an active participant in the Belmont Week-day School, all Children’s Choirs, Youth Choir, youth group and the boys’ basketball team (Purple Haze!). Earlier this year he earned the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 217, where his dad is Scoutmaster. He is big brother to Kate and Alex, both students at J.T. Moore Middle School. He will attend University of Chicago in the fall.

Keydo is a senior at John Overton High School. Keydo and his family have been members of Belmont UMC since 2006. As a GTF youth at Belmont UMC, he was an active member in the GTF youth choir and played guitar for the youth meeting and the GTF children’s choir. Keydo did not join any sports team at school, but he played soccer outside the school with other young Karen people. Keydo wishes to continue studying at college after high school.

Matthew Lewis is a senior at University School of Nashville where he played baseball, basketball and wrote for the school newspaper. As a youth at Belmont UMC, he was an active member in the youth choir, coached the junior high church basketball team, and participated in the Appalachian Service Project. He will attend Wake Forest University.

Will Kennon is a senior at Ensworth High School and will be headed to Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Texas, this fall. Will has been singing in the choir at Belmont UMC since he was 4 years old. He played baseball, tennis and golf during high school and was awarded the Most Outstanding Bill award at Model U.N. He has been involved in scouting for years and earned his Eagle Scout in 2016.

Congratulations to Belmont UMC’s Youth High School Class of 2017!
