“This Little Light of Mine”—arr. Martha Lynn Thompson
All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism,
as the presiding minister begins.
Blessed be the holy Trinity, † one God, whose voice is upon the
waters, whose mercy is poured out upon all people, whose goodness
cascades over all creation.
Amen.*
Let us confess our sin trusting in the abundant grace of
God.
Silence is kept for reflection.
Holy God,
you search us and know us.
You are acquainted with all our ways.
We confess that our hearts are burdened by sin—
our own sins and the broken systems that bind us.
We turn inward, failing to follow your outward way of love.
We distrust those who are not like us.
We exploit the earth and its resources
and fail to consider generations to come.
Forgive us, gracious God,
for all we have done and left undone.
Even before the words are on our tongues,
you know them;
receive them in your divine mercy. Amen.
How vast is God’s grace!
Through the power and promise of † Christ Jesus, our sins are
washed away and we are claimed as God’s own beloved. In the wake of
God’s forgiveness, we are called to be the beloved community of
justice and peace. Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And also with you.
Let us pray.
Holy One, you have called each of us by name as your beloved.
May we hear your voice and
follow Christ, so that our lives are transformed by your Spirit
and renewed with vitality to shine
the light of your love in the world. Amen.

John 1:43-51 The holy gospel according to John.
The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and
said to him, “Follow me.” Now Philip
was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found
Nathanael and said to him, “We have
found him about whom Moses in the law and also the prophets
wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from
Nazareth.” Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of
Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come
and see.” When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of
him, “Here is truly an Israelite in
whom there is no deceit!” Nathanael asked him, “Where did you
get to know me?” Jesus answered, “I
saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you.” Nathanael
replied, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God!
You are the King of Israel!” Jesus answered, “Do you believe
because I told you that I saw you under the
fig tree? You will see greater things than these.” And he said
to him, “Very truly, I tell you, you will see
heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending
upon the Son of Man.”
The gospel of the Lord.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and
earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was
conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He
ascended into heaven, and is seated at
the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the
living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the
communion of saints, the forgiveness of
sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.
Guided by Christ made known to the nations, let us offer our
prayers for the church, the world, and all
people in need.
See page 9 for a list of prayer concerns.
Merciful God, hear the prayers of your people, spoken or silent,
for the sake of the one who dwells
among us, your Son, Jesus Christ our Savior.
Amen.

O God,

like a mother receives her child, with arms open wide.
Nourish us anew in your tender care,
and empower us in faithful service
to tend to others with this same love,
through Jesus Christ, our saving grace.
Amen.
-
Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus
taught us.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.

“I Will Follow”—Chris Tomlin
All Your ways are good
All Your ways are sure
I will trust in You alone
Higher than my side
High above my life
I will trust in You alone
Where You go, I'll go
Where You stay, I'll stay
When You move, I'll move
I will follow You
Who You love, I'll love
How You serve I'll serve
If this life I lose, I will follow You
I will follow You
Light unto the world
Light unto my life
I will live for You alone
You're the one I seek
Knowing I will find
All I need in You alone, in You alone
In You there's life everlasting
In You there's freedom for my soul
In You there's joy, unending joy
And I will follow
Go in peace. Be the light of Christ.
Thanks be to God.
