PG&E Hunters Point Site Project Advisory Committee Weekly Update October 26, 2012 This is the latest weekly update from PG&E’s Cleanup Project Team to the Project Advisory Committee (PAC) and interested members of the Bayview Hunters Point community. This update provides an area-by-area overview of current and upcoming PG&E activities on and around the Hunters Point Site. A site map showing the cleanup areas is also included. Area C/D Basement Structure Closure — We continue to work on the underground basement. The work first involves removing the top three feet of the structure. During this work you will hear hammering noises near the site, which will continue into next week. We will then begin to fill the structure. We are salvaging any reinforcing steel and filling the structure with crushed concrete (from the structure) and clean imported fill. The concrete is not impacted by contaminants. In preparation for the start of fill work, we have resumed dust mitigation efforts in the area, including the use of the high-pressure mist system. Below is a recent picture of work in the area. Areas B and I —We have completed restoration work in Areas B and I. Any remaining work in the areas will be limited to minor landscaping and final wrap-up activities. Air Monitoring —Now that Areas B and I have been cleaned and paved, we are no longer monitoring the air in these areas. This is in line with the approved Asbestos and Dust Mitigation Plan for the Site. The contaminants have been removed, the exposed areas have been covered, and all work that could create dust is complete. In Area C/D (which was cleaned up and paved last year), dust monitoring resumed recently when we began the concrete demolition described above. We will add monitoring for naturally occurring asbestos next week before starting the soil- disturbing work that is associated with the basement closure.
