“To proclaim the gospel to all in order that disciples of Christ may be made and kept.”
WELCOME TO WORSHIP! We are pleased that you have chosen to worship the Lord with us
today. If you are a guest visiting with us, know that we are thankful you have joined us. Please
take a moment to sign the friendship register during the gathering of the Thank Offering.
Large print hymnals are available upon request from an usher.
Hearing assist devices are available upon request from an usher in Menomonee Falls.
Restrooms at the Falls: In the lower level of the church and also down the school hallway.
Restrooms at Germantown: In the north and south halls of the building.
If you need a place to quiet a restless child, the service is streamed to a TV in the lower level of
the Falls and in the Alpha Room at Germantown.
NOTES FOR WORSHIP The order of service for today is printed in this folder. The hymns are
found in the hymnals or are printed in the folder. The pastor will speak the parts marked “M” and
the congregation will speak the parts marked “C”.
COMMUNION The Bible tells us that those who take Communion together are to:
1. Recognize that Christ’s true body and blood are present in the Sacrament (1 Cor. 11:29),
2. Examine themselves (1 Cor. 11:28), and
3. Be united in faith with the congregation with which they commune (1 Cor. 10:17).
For these reasons, it is our practice that only those who are members of our congregation or a
congregation of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) join us for Holy Communion.
If you are interested in learning more about becoming part of our fellowship, please speak to the
pastor after the service.

GATHERING
OPENING HYMN Lift High the Cross | 579
INVOCATION
M: Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the
seven spirits before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the
firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
C: To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to
be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for
ever and ever! Amen. (Revelation 1:4-6)
CONFESSION OF SINS
M: The days are coming," declares the LORD, “when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch,
a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. In his days Judah will
be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The LORD
Our Righteousness.” (Jeremiah 23:5-6)
Since we have such a merciful King, let us humbly approach his throne, confess our sins,
and plead for his mercy.
C: Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. You are not a God
who takes pleasure in evil; with you the wicked cannot dwell. The arrogant cannot
stand in your presence; you hate all who do wrong. But I, by your great mercy, will
come into your house; in reverence will I bow down toward your holy temple. Lead
me, O LORD, in your righteousness. For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous; you
surround them with your favor as with a shield. (Psalm 5:2-5, 7-8,12)
ORDER OF SERVICE FOR THE LAST SUNDAY OF END TIME
CHRIST THE KING
4
M: As God’s called servant I announce to you what the LORD says—your Redeemer, the Holy
One of Israel:
“I am the LORD, your Holy One, Israel’s Creator, your King. Fear not, for I have redeemed
you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. You are my witnesses, and my servant
whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he.
I am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior. I am he who blots out your
transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.
(Isaiah 43:1,10-11,15,25)
C: Amen.
M: In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord.
After a brief introduction, all sing:
1 Crown him with many crowns, The Lamb upon his throne;
Hark how the heav’nly anthem drowns All music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing Of him who died for thee,
And hail him as thy matchless King Through all eternity.
4 Crown him the Lord of heav’n, Enthroned in worlds above;
Crown him the King to whom is giv’n The wondrous name of Love.
Crown him with many crowns As thrones before him fall;
Crown him, ye kings, with many crowns For he is King of all. (CW 341:1,4)
PRAYER OF THE DAY
M: Lord Jesus Christ, by your victory you have broken the power of the evil one. Fill our hearts
with joy and peace as we look with hope to that day when every creature in heaven and
earth will acclaim you King of kings and Lord of lords to your unending praise and glory; for
you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C: Amen.

THE WORD
FIRST LESSON Genesis 49:8-12
As Jacob lay dying, he bestows a special blessing on his son, Judah, a blessing that would affect all
salvation history.
“Judah, your brothers will praise you;
your hand will be on the
neck of your enemies;
your father’s sons will bow down to you. 9 You are a lion’s cub, Judah;
you return from the prey, my son.
Like a lion he crouches and lies down,
like a lioness—who dares to rouse him? 10
The scepter will not depart from Judah,
nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet,
until he to whom it belongs shall come
and the obedience of the nations
shall be his. 11
He will tether his donkey to a vine,
his colt to the choicest branch;
he will wash his garments in wine,
his robes in the blood of grapes. 12
His eyes will be darker than wine,
his teeth whiter than milk.
PSALM OF THE DAY (6:45, 5:00, 9:15) Psalm 45 | p. 83
PSALM OF THE DAY (8:00, 10:30) Psalm 45 | arr. Hal Hopson
Choir: Refrain
ALL: Refrain
Choir: How our hearts with joy abound, With your beauty all around;
We would try our love to express, We would speak your righteousness. Refrain
Choir: Fairer still than human frame, To our eyes for years the same;
Steadfast love shines from your face; From your lips flow words of grace. Refrain
Choir: Yours the scepter, yours the throne; You to use are God alone;
Mercies, vast, to all are giv’n: Wealth of earth, and joy of heav’n. Refrain
7
Choir: Glorious gifts, for mercy’s sake, We are chosen, we partake.
Come with joy and highest praise; Come to God’s house, your voices raise. Refrain
Choir: Let your song of praise recall: God alone is Lord of all.
All the earth and heav’n above, Join to praise the God of love. Refrain
SECOND LESSON Colossians 1:13-20
Jesus Christ is superior to all things, proving that superiority by achieving our salvation from sin,
death, and Satan. 13
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the
Son he loves, 14
in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
16 For in him all things
were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or
rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17
He is before all
things, and in him all things hold together. 18
And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the
beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the
supremacy. 19
For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20
and through him to
reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making
peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
VERSE OF THE DAY Revelation 22:13
M: Alleluia. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
Alleluia.
After a musical introduction, the congregation sings:
Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!
Unto Christ, our heav’nly King, Alleluia!
Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
Sinners to redeem and save, Alleluia! (CW 157:2)

GOSPEL Luke 23:35-43
What the Roman soldiers and the criminals mocked Jesus for is the ultimate truth: Jesus IS the
Christ, as well as the king of the Jews, and in fact, of all creation.
35
The people stood watching, and the rulers even
sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save
himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”
36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They
offered him wine vinegar 37
and said, “If you are the king
of the Jews, save yourself.”
38 There was a written notice above him, which read: THIS
IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at
him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear
God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41
We are punished justly, for we are
getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
M: This is the Gospel of our Lord.
C: Praise be to you, O Christ!

CONFESSION OF FAITH The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,
and became fully human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate.
He suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
THANK OFFERING
Moved by God’s love in Christ, we offer him our first and best gifts, purely out of thanks to him.
Please take a moment to sign the Friendship Register.

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH
M: To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power
for ever and ever!
C: Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory.
M: You are worth, O Christ our King, to receive honor and glory and praise, for you created all
things and by your will they were created and have their being.
C: Alleluia! For our Lord God Almighty reigns!
M: You are worthy, O Christ our King, to receive honor and glory and praise because you were
slain, and with your blood you purchased us for God. From every tribe and language and
people and nation, you have called us into your kingdom and have made us priests to serve
you, our God and Father.
C: Help us live as royal priests.
M: We give thanks to you, O Christ our Shepherd-King, because you have searched for us and
found us. Lead us to the green pastures and quiet waters of your saving love, so that we
may enjoy peace and comfort for our souls.
C: Heal our hearts when they are broken with sin and guilt. Strengthen us when we are
weak.
M: We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, because you have taken your great power and
have begun to reign. Come with your mighty power to break and defeat every evil plan and
purpose of the devil, of the ungodly influences and ideas of the world, and of our own
sinful nature. Use your power to calm the unrest among nations and peoples so that your
kingdom may spread and grow.
C: Strengthen our confidence in knowing that your kingdom will never be destroyed.
M: O Christ our King, you have supremacy over all. You will judge the world in righteousness
and the peoples with equity. You have destroyed death and brought life and immortality to
light through the gospel. Reign in our hearts that we may serve you more faithfully and
speak more boldly to others of your saving love.
C: Praise be to the Lord God, who alone does marvelous deeds. May the whole earth be
filled with his glory.
11
Special prayers and intercessions may follow.
M: Hear us, Lord, as we bring you our private petitions.
Silent prayer.
M: Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him.
The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he
will reign for ever and ever, King of kings and Lord of lords.
C: The Lord God Almighty reigns! Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! Amen.
LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those
who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.
THE SACRAMENT
M: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
M: Lift up your hearts.
C: We lift them up unto the Lord.
12
M: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C: It is right to give him thanks and praise.
M: Praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In love he has blessed us with every
spiritual blessing. He protects and preserves his Church in every age and gives us
confidence to lift up our heads and watch for Jesus with joy. Now have come the salvation
and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ. To him who sits
on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and thanks and honor and glory forever and ever.
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY
Sanctus

WORDS OF INSTITUTION
M: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given
thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my ✙ body,
which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you;
this is my ✙ blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of
sins. Do this whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
M: The peace of the Lord be with you always.
C: Amen.
