This and That... I hope you had a wonderful start to the new year! St. Thomas More Parish has been alive and vibrant. A word of thanks to the Knights of Columbus for the extraordinary effort to fill a 40 foot container for Jacobs Ladder that will be shipped from Providence to Kingston, Jamaica. Many of us had the opportunity to clear out our closets and to help the poor in a direct way. Job well done! Today a number of our 10th grade Confirmation students will join Fr. James Ruggieri and myself to distribute sandwiches at Crossroads in Providence and in the west end. Please pray for us as we bring food to our homeless brothers and sisters in the city. The construction continues in the St. Thomas More parish hall. This past week additional overhead lighting was installed that will allow us to provide more ambient lighting for non-classroom events. The serving door to the new kitchen was also installed. Kitchen counters were put in last week. We are waiting for delayed room dividers that will only arrive in March hence requiring us to leave all CCD classes at St. Veronica for the next semester as well. Sorry for the inconvenience! We are waiting for the permit to expand the kitchen wall. Please stop in and look at the new hall. (The kitchen remains off limits as it is an active construction area.) I am glad to welcome Fr. Jose to our parish family. It seems like he has been here a long time already! Feel free to get to know our new resident priest and help him to get to know you and your family. We are gearing up for our new team of 23 missionaries that will leave February 14th for Hogar Immanuel in Dominican Republic. We will all attend the 10 am Mass on Sunday, January 26th, and pack our second suitcases full of medicines and supplies for our clinic. February 9th our mission team and our families will attend the noon Spanish Mass at St. Charles in Providence where the Latino community will pray over us and we will hear testimonies from the immigrant community. Stay tuned for details of our Lenten mission by Msgr Rob Panke, from Washington DC, on the topic of forgiveness at the beginning of Lent. A few spots left on pilgrimage to the new National Bible Museum for a weekend in DC. Call MaryTheresa Conca at the parish office to inquire. This trip will be a wonderful weekend of prayer, fellowship and discovery. Fr. Taillon
