Speed & Feed Recommendations for Multi-Pro
Multi-Pro Spot Drills & Chamfer MillsA spotting drill with all the advantages ofindexable inserts - reduced toolmaintenance time, increased performance, lower inventory cost and no regrindingrequirements. The insert clamping methodensures accurate and secure location withquick change-over times. Multi-pro has aunique geometry which allows cutting overthe centre line, using carbide, withoutchipping of the cutting edge. This versatiletool may be used to ‘spot’ holes prior todrilling, as a means to guide the drill andkeep the hole straight, to keep size andaccurately position, relative to the datum.NB. The 118° inclusive tool isrecommended for ‘spotting’ prior to drillingwith 118° point drills.Countersinks may be produced prior todrilling to provide a corner break on adrilled hole, a chamfer conforming todrawing specifications, a lead in for asubsequent tapping operation, or a fullcountersink to accommodate a screwhead. Corner chamfers on edges, contoursand bores can be machined as light de-burring operations or full depth chamfers.Multi-pro may be used to produce veegrooves for fluid channels, locations forround components and grip pattern orserrations on jaws and clamp pads.

Milling Cutters Weldon Shank End MillsUsed for profiling, slotting and facing. First choice for profiling work. Available in diameters from 10 to 40mm and utilising a long edge APKT style insert for deep profiles.
Milling Cutters Weldon Shank Mill DrillsUsed for drilling, plunging, pocketing, profilingand slotting. A good general purpose cutter, mostly used to produce a hole then open it outto a pocket or closed slot. Uses a square insertwith a special corner facet to cut on centre. The outer insert compliments the inner one tocut full diameter.

In climb milling (down cutting) the cutter revolves inthe same direction as the table feed, the toothmeets the work at the top of the cut producing thethickest part of the chip first. The cutting edge hasto resist a shock load, and it is essential that themachine feed mechanism is free from backlash.AdvantagesLower cutting forces/power requirement.Cutting forces directed against the clampingfixtures.Heat will be carried away with the chips.DisadvantagesAt thin wall workpieces. At hard workpiece surfaces or scale andunevenness. In conventional milling the cutter revolves oppositeto the direction of table feed. Therefore the width ofthe chip starts at zero and increases to a maximumat the end of the cut which leads to excessive toolwear under some conditions.AdvantagesAt thin wall workpieces. At hard workpiece surface or scale. DisadvantageHigher cutting forces.Chatter marks at the surface.Workpiece heats up/more friction.Poor tool life.
