CoreGRID objectives
• To build a European-wide research laboratory– Avoid fragmentation of Grid research activities in Europe– Create the European “Grid Lighthouse” and be seen as such
worldwide – Achieve integration and sustainability
• To build solid foundations for GRID and P2P technologies– Both on a methodological basis and a technological basis– Support medium and long term research activities
• Achieve and promote scientific and technological excellence within & beyond the Grid research community
• Gather and disseminate European research results
• A think-tank for spin-off projects– EC funded, bilateral projects, international cooperation…

• Leads to duplication of efforts, lack of critical mass and lack of visibility, …

Towards a common Component Model for GridsThe CoreGRID Grid Component Model (GCM)
• Establish a set of requirements for a Grid component model based on the experience of CoreGRID partners
• Define specifications of what should be a component model suitable for Grid infrastructures
• Not reinventing the wheel…
• Implementation of the Grid Component Model through a spin-off project
Grid Application

After…
Main achievements after almost 4 years
• Organization of 59 meetings and 17 workshops, contributing to solving research challenges as described in the CoreGRID research roadmaps.
• Delivery of more than 447 joint technical papers accepted in peer-review conferences, workshops and journals, including 10 CoreGRID Series volumes, thus advancing European excellence.
• Publication of 137 CoreGRID technical reports, co-authored by at least two different CoreGRID partners showing the level of integration among the CoreGRID community.
• Funding of several spin-off research projects, either by the EC within FP6/7, or through national and/or regional initiatives.

Main achievements after almost 4 years
• Managing the database of publications by CoreGRID researchers in the area of Grid and peer-to-peer computing with around 1050 references available today.
• Increased visibility of the European Grid research community through the support of highly-reputed international conferences, such as EuroPar 2005, 2006 and 2007, HPDC 2006, IEEE conference on Grid Computing in 2006 and 2007, CCGRID 2008 and events such as Grid@Work 2006 and 2007. CoreGRID also sponsored the Open Grid Forum.
• Opening up academic research agendas in order to identify business-oriented research priorities, leading to the spin-off of new CoreGRID activities, for example in service-oriented architectures and systems.
• Developing new ideas to anticipate technological trends and to promote commercially relevant and promising research.

Main achievements after almost 4 years
• Organisation of several scientific workshops jointly with highly reputed international conferences and the CoreGRID symposium jointly held with EuroPar 2007 and EuroPar 2008.
• Organisation of four annual CoreGRID Summer Schools.
• Organisation of the CoreGRID Industrial Conference.
• Implementing Mobility Programmes - a Fellowship Programme and a Researcher Exchange Programme - increasing integration between partners, and now involving industrial partners.
• Organisation of three annual Integration Workshops.

CoreGRID ERCIM Working Group
• To further gain international visibility and attention– Grids, P2P and Service computing (in the context of Future Internet)
• Open to everyone– Not necessary to be a member of ERCIM
• Main activities– Workshops– Project proposals– Mobility and fellows
• ERCIM support financially the WG Chair up to €15,000
