Is God really in the still and quiet?

Page 7: thevoice_sept14

Christianity is unique among religions, for it alone offers a personal relationship with the Creator beginning here and now, and lasting throughout eternity. Jesus declared, “This is eternal life – that they may know God” (Jn. 17:2). Unfortunately, many in the Church miss the great bless-ing of fellowship with our Lord because we have lost the ability to recognize His voice within us. Though we have the promise that “My sheep hear My voice,” too many be-lievers are starved for that intimate relationship that alone can satisfy the desire of their hearts.

I was one of those sheep who was deaf to his Shepherd until the Lord revealed four very simple keys.

Key #1 – God’s voice in your heart often sounds like a flow of spontaneous thoughts.

Habakkuk knew the sound of God speaking to him (Hab. 2:2). Elijah described it as a still, small voice (I Kings 19:12 ). I had always listened for an inner audible voice, and God does speak that way at times. However, I have found that usually, God’s voice comes as spontaneous thoughts, visions, feelings, or impressions.

For example, haven’t you been driving down the road and had a thought come to you to pray for a certain person?

How to Hear God’s Voicein Your Everyday Life

With all the noise in the world today, it’s nearly impos-sible to hear the soft spoken word of God. Hopefully, with these few tips, you’ll be achieving peace and hearing God with every direction you’ll be taking.By Kailey Larson

Page 8: thevoice_sept14

God’s voice sound like? Was it an audible voice, or was it a spontaneous thought that lit upon your mind?

Experience indicates that we perceive spirit-level communication as sponta-neous thoughts, impressions and vi-sions, and Scrip-ture confirms this in many ways. For example, one defi-nition of paga, a Hebrew word for intercession, is “a chance encounter or an accidental in-tersecting.” When God lays people on our hearts, He does it through paga, a chance-encounter thought “accidentally” intersecting our minds.

Therefore, when you want to hear from God, tune to chance-encounter or spon-taneous thoughts.

Key #2 – Become still so you can sense God’s flow of thoughts and emotions within.

Habakkuk said, “I will stand on my guard post...” (Hab. 2:1). Habakkuk knew that to hear God’s quiet, inner, spontaneous thoughts, he had to first go to a quiet place and still his own thoughts and

emotions. Psalm 46:10 encourages us to be still, and know that He is God. There is a deep inner knowing (spontaneous flow) in our spirits that each of us can experience when we quiet our flesh and our minds. If we are not still, we will sense only our own thoughts.

Loving God through a quiet wor-ship song is one very ef-fective way to become still. (Note II Kings 3:15 .) After I worship and become silent

within, I open myself for that sponta-neous flow. If thoughts come of things I have forgotten to do, I write them down and dismiss them. If thoughts of guilt or unworthiness come, I repent thoroughly, receive the washing of the blood of the Lamb, putting on His robe of righteous-ness, seeing myself spotless before God (Is. 61:10; Col. 1:22).

To receive the pure word of God, it is very important that my heart be prop-erly focused as I become still because my focus is the source of the intuitive flow. If I fix my eyes upon Jesus, the intuitive flow comes from Jesus. But if I fix my gaze upon some desire of my heart, the intuitive flow comes out of that de

Page 9: thevoice_sept14

sire. To have a pure flow I must become still and carefully fix my eyes upon Jesus. Again, quietly worshiping the King, and receiving out of the stillness that follows quite easily accomplishes this.

Fix your gaze upon Jesus (Heb. 12:2), becoming quiet in His presence and sharing with Him what is on your heart. Spontaneous thoughts will begin to flow from the throne of God to you, and you will actually be conversing with the King of Kings!

Key #3 – As you pray, fix the eyes of your heart upon Jesus, seeing in the Spirit the dreams and visions of Almighty God.

Habakkuk said, “I will keep watch to see,” and God said, “Record the vi-sion” (Hab. 2:1,2). Habakkuk was actu-ally looking for vision as he prayed. He opened the eyes of his heart, and looked into the spirit world to see what God wanted to show him. This is an intrigu-ing idea.

God has always spoken through dreams and visions, and He specifically said that they would come to those upon whom the Holy Spirit is poured out (Acts 2:1-4, 17).

I had never thought of opening the eyes of my heart and looking for vision. How-ever, I have come to believe that this is

exactly what God wants me to do. He gave me eyes in my heart to see in the spirit the vision and movement of Almighty God. There is an active spirit world all around us, full of angels, demons, the Holy Spirit, the omnipresent Father, and His omni-present Son, Jesus. The only reasons for me not to see this reality are unbelief or lack of knowledge.

In order to see, we must look. Daniel saw a vision in his mind and said, “I was looking...I kept looking...I kept looking” (Dan. 7:2,9,13). As I pray, I look for Jesus, and I watch as He speaks to me, doing and saying the things that are on His heart. Many Christians will find that if they will only look, they will see, in the same way they receive spontaneous thoughts. Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us (Matt. 1:23 ). It is as simple as that. You can see Christ present with you because Christ is present with you. In fact, the vision may come so easily that you will be tempted to reject it, thinking that it is just you. But if you per-sist in recording these visions, your doubt will soon be overcome by faith as you recognize that the content of them could only be birthed in Almighty God.

Jesus demonstrated the ability of living out of constant contact with God, declar-ing that He did nothing on His own ini-tiative, but only what He saw the Father doing, and heard the Father saying (Jn. 5:19,20,30). What an incredible way to live!

My name is Cam Cavasso and I am seeking to replace Daniel Inouye in the United States Senate. I stand for life, marriage, family and

responsible economic reform. I ask for your vote in this upcoming election for United States Senator. I served three terms as a Hawaii State Legislator. I served as a Captain in the United States Army, and I have run a business since the age of 14. I am a 22 year veteran financial advisor with Mass Mutual Financial Group. I graduated from Kailua High School and the University of Colorado. My wife Tula and I have 5 chil-dren and 9 grandchildren. Our nation and our state are in serious trouble: the deci-sions currently being made by politicians in Washington are dragging down our economy, endangering our free-

doms, and redefining traditional values and families. As citizens and voters, we must take action now to restore a culture of transparency, accountability, and morality in Washington. Politicians like Daniel Inouye continue to create and support government policies that degrade our families and redefine mar-riage. I believe marriage and family is the founda-tion of our culture and that we should do everything we can to defend those institutions. Hawaii voted to confirm traditional marriage between one man and one woman as the law of the land. I am proud to have been one of the leaders who helped bring that constitutional amendment to victory. I often ask Hawaii citizens if they favor traditional marriage and if they know where Daniel Inouye stands on the issue. Most say they support tradi-tional marriage, but they do not know Daniel In-ouye’s position on marriage. Many are shocked and dismayed to learn that Daniel Inouye voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment; he voted against the Defense of Marriage Act; and he voted against eliminating the marriage penalty tax. I ask you “Are you pro-life?” Do you know where Daniel Inouye stands on this issue? Daniel Inouye is pro-abortion. He voted seven times in favor of partial birth abor-tion. Sadly, Daniel Inouye’s radical positions are not confined to social issues like marriage, family, and abortion— his unfailing support for higher taxes and increased government spending are equally as disturbing and destructive. Is it right to leave our children and grandchildren with a mountain of debt? Daniel Inouye apparently thinks it is but, for me, the answer is an unqualified and emphatic “No.” There-fore I am running against Daniel Inouye to protect our families, restore our moral values, and save our economy. I have 3 requests of you: First, I ask for your prayers for this nation and this election. Second, in the Bible it is written that “my people perish for lack of knowledge”-- I ask you to spread the word about this campaign. Please tell your friends and family that Cam Cavasso is running for the United States Sen-ate and that he upholds the traditional values that inspired and guided our founding fathers in creating the Constitution and building this nation. Third, I ask for your support and your vote.

My name is John Willoughby and I’m running for United States Congress in District Two. I’m a retired Navy Officer of 26 years, and for

the past 12 years I’ve been a commercial airline pilot with United Airlines.

There are many reasons why I’m running for Congress. The most important is that, like you, we love these Islands. This is where my wife and I have chosen to live and like you, we want Hawaii to be the very best it can be. Every two years, we’re told how important the election is to our families. It couldn’t be truer than now. Hawaii needs Representatives who are driven by what is right, guided by the Constitution, deeply committed to per-sonal integrity, professional responsibility, and uncon-ditional accountability, but most importantly, Represen-tatives who are loyal to the only special interest group they should recognize – the People of Hawaii.

After the November Election, it will be vitally important that we have a Congressman from District Two who reflects the economic and Christian values of Hawaii families.

In Congress, committee memberships are assigned based on a newly elected Representative’s background and experience. As a retired military officer, I would line up for membership in the important Armed Services, Foreign Relations, Intelligence, and Veterans Affairs Committees. As an airline pilot, I would also line up for membership in the crucial House Commit-tee on Transportation and Infrastructure, where I will join Charles Djou in moving forward legislation seek-ing an exemption for Hawaii from the Jones Act. An exemption will lower the price of virtually every good and service sold in Hawaii up to 22% and will make our local products more marketable around the world.

The bottom line – I know how Washington works. It won’t take me 2 or 4 or 6 years to figure things out. Nor will I be reluctant to fight against policies that aren’t in the best interest of Hawaii families.

I’m the only candidate who is Pro-life, Pro-family, Pro-traditional marriage, and the only candidate to stand beside Governor Lingle and Hawaii families in opposition to HB444.

I also stand beside our military in uniform and their leaders who oppose lifting the military’s long standing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. And I oppose overturn-ing the Defense of Marriage Act, which properly de-fines marriage as between one man and one woman, and does not force us in Hawaii to recognize same sex marriages or civil unions performed in States on the mainland.

Most importantly, I’m not afraid to advocate allowing God back into our schools and communities.

These can be exciting times for us here in Hawaii. We can and will be leading, inspiring, and empower-ing change on the Mainland, and not the other way around. I believe the people of Hawaii are ready for a new Representative – a true Representative of the people who will work tirelessly every day to ensure Washington knows that Hawaii’s hopes and dreams, her values and principles, and her virtuous desires are finally represented in Congress.

You might find this hard to believe, but I grew up in Kaneohe & Kailua before the tunnels were built under the Pali. Cows and horses grazed the

meadow outside when I was in 8th grade at St. Ann’s/ Kaneohe.

My dad IS a U.S. Marine – still breathing at 90, so he’s still “a Marine” – from near Chicago. My mom’s family moved from Italy to West Chicago – at the END of the paved road. Her dad was a shoemaker in Italy and the U.S. Her mom had two kids in Italy & five more in the U.S. – and I just “KNEW” that all my uncles were in that other Italian “family”! Mom went home to have “the kid” – me, but we never lived there after my dad came home from WWII.

I graduated from St. Ann’s, Punahou, and U.H. – after working my way through UH in hotels – then became the manager of one before going to Har-vard’s Business School – so I went to both UH & Harvard (hey, lighten up – and turned down the Harvard Law School)! I came back to Hawaii and became an appraiser, broker, and consulting econ-omist.

I thought I was a “Christian” (you couldn’t tell from my moving in with a woman I met at Harvard – and later marrying – and divorcing), until my sec-ond wife & I adopted a little girl, “fresh from the oven.” We started going to church & praying (but only there), and I began reading the Bible. Then the real estate firm (that hired me to move back to Hawaii) failed, and my wife soon had enough of my not making any money & moved out.

About two years later, I met a heathen lady (we were both pagans then) and moved in with her. After we got pregnant, we got married & had two great daughters; but after about ten years, I lost another job & started about two years of heavy depression; she eventually tired of my slamming doors & yell-ing at her & the kids – not from drinking, but sober, usually about her spending (usually on the kids & on taking ‘em home to see her folks). When she married a high-school sweetheart & moved back to her home town with our kids, I really went into depression – but soon started going to New Hope and paddling eventually with their canoe club (& later doing “The Molokai”).

Then I started really going to church, praying out loud, “journaling” almost every day, & studying the Bible – and really seeing what God says about abortion & shedding innocent blood. I’d tried a few jobs until working as Executive Director at “Hawaii Right to Life,” became a “true believer” – and got back into acting, being a beach-boy (again) & teaching to “pay the bills.” Then a few weeks ago the Republican Party talked me into running for the House from District 21 – Diamond Head/ Kai-muki/ Kapahulu/… And there you have it.

When you first studied civics as a student in school, was it your understanding that the candidate for political office to represent you

had to solicit your attention for your vote, or, that it was your duty and obligation to seek out the candidate(s) and become educated on their platform? If the answer is that the candidate has to solicit your at-tention and garner your time and convince you to cast a vote in their favor, then you are supporting a system that requires the candidate to expend funds- which in turn, induces the candidate to raise money. This is where the will of the people gets skewed and the art of beholding to one’s donors takes over and taints the beauty, purity, and design of the democratic process. My name is Tom Berg. It is my passion to earn your respect and vie for each vote, not by monetary means,

but through the basics- to offer you access to my campaign through a free, on your own time, friendly website- www.bergforhouse.com On my website, you will find over 200 youtubes I made for you- so you can track an be educated on why the Hurricane Relief Fund was raided when it did not have to be; the new Death Tax/Inheritance Tax passed that cripples those from wanting to succeed; and other measures that destabilize the very structure that is meant to enhance our quality of life and not take it backwards. If I were out to play the game, I would not admit that I am for school vouchers. To get the Hawaii State Teachers Association endorsement, one cannot be pro voucher. Private schools are hurting but parents can’t even get a meal ticket for their children, let alone a tax break for all they do that saves the state resources and funds. If I were out to play the game, I would vote for HB444 like Rep. Rida Cabanilla did then answer the Hawaii Family Forum that I am against it when surveyed. This double talk deceit is something I do not do. I am for keeping marriage between one man and one wom-an and not expanding that in statute. I am against Civil Unions that intervene and impose reasoning to children that relationships can be harems, polygamy, and incest as the norm and voting no to Civil Unions if elected. The one party domination at the State Legislature has broken our ability to wean ourselves from the grip of public unions. The worker bees in government that provide us with quality services and are dedicated servants have gotten a bad rap due to the greed of their union bosses. When a candidate takes their money to win a campaign touting their endorsement, that means they will vote for tax increases to cater to their demands. I refuse to take and have not taken one penny from any public union entity. Please vote for me- Tom Berg. I do not play the game where promises are broken. Mahalo!

I was a former American soldier guardian of our country and our way of life and I was prepared to give my life in their

defense. I humbly ask that you give me an opportunity to apply that same sense of dedication and selfless service as your state senator. I am a Conserva-tive Reagan Republican responsible for my actions and dedicated to the principals that made our country free. I have trust and faith in the American People and the U.S. I will do all I can to make the people proud of the political party and nation that I repre-sent, for I am a Conservative Reagan Republican. I have spent 8 years defending our nation, our country and I am now running for office because I want to protect your family and wallet.

The U.S. Constitution is a government document like no other in which we the people tell government what to do, government doesn’t tell us. The first three words in the constitution begins with “we the people” which means government is ran from the ground up, not the top down. Without people there would be no government. We are a Christian nation founded on Judeo Christian principals; however we are open and welcoming to the views, practices, and opinions of other religions. The strength of our nation, the strength of our state and the strength of our local community comes from our people not our govern-ment. Our people need to be empowered to make their own decisions rather than have government make decisions for them. All great change takes place at the dinner table not in the halls of our state legislature. Laws should limit what the government is allowed to do, rather than telling the people what to do. Success should be limited by the imagination not by government regulation. Everyone needs to be given the same start line, not the same finish line.

I AM RUNING FOR OFFICE BECAUSE I WANT TO PROTECT YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR WAL-LET. AFTER ALL I DON’T HAVE A FAMILY YET, SO I MAY AS WELL PROTECT YOURS! IT’S WHAT I DO BEST!

Aloha! My name is Tito Montes, and I’m run-ning for State Senate. Most residents of Ha-waii are

facing challenging times, and our community has been one of the hardest hit statewide. Many of the problems we are experiencing are directly caused by the failure of politicalleadership. Our state government is failing to improve our local economy, it is failing to properlyeducate our children, and it is failing to provide basic government services in an efficient andeffective manner. Yet year after year, our cost of living goes up and our quality of life goes down.

The current Senate representation we send downtown to our State Capitol has a very clear trackrecord of supporting the very policies that stop eco-nomic growth, continuing the status quo, and

Page 17: thevoice_sept14

adding to the bureaucratic red tape that makes our state government so very costly and highlyinefficient.

With your kokua, I will be a citizen representative, not a detached incumbent politician. I willfight for your interests at the State Capitol. I know how important it is for families to have more money in their pockets, to have choice in their children’s education, and to have the freedom to pursue happi-ness as they see fit. We know that government cannot solve all our problems. For this reason, I genuinely want to restore the proper, limited role of govern-ment, and to give power back to the communities and families of Hawaii. With my commitment to better representation and better results, I humbly ask for your support this November 2nd.
