TCS – GSE scope

• AMS at KSC will be in flight configuration (radiators)

• The TCS GSE shall allow the correct detector operation during the ground integration.

• The only GSE to be used at KSC will be electrically powered fans of two kind, to provide forced convection cooling.

• Several fans will blow air towards specific AMS components in order to keep their temperature in the operative range.

Elements to be cooled

– Air cooling • Electronic crates and XPDs

– Main radiators (RAM and WAKE) mounted

• Cryocoolers (with LHP integrated, hence sunk to the zenith radiators)

• PDS (mounted on WAKE radiator)• CAB (with LHP integrated, hence sunk to the wake radiator)

• All other subdetectors don’t need forced convection cooling, free convection being sufficient.

System Design

• Four fans will blow to the electronic units mounted on the Ram radiator, having their axis parallel to the radiator

• Four fans will blow to the electronic units mounted on the Wake radiator , having their axis parallel to the radiator

• Four fans will blow the Zenith Radiator, having their axis parallel to the 4 zenith radiator quadrants

Quality stamp on COTS

• All fans will be commercial off the shelf (COTS) and have the European “CE” quality symbol on it.

• The supplier of the fans is TBD.
