Right before the pandemic began, in January 2020, in Duxbury, Massachusetts my family met at the Mayflower Cemetery for my mother’s burial. Duxbury is my Mom’s hometown, my father is buried there as well. However, no one in my family has lived there for 50 years. I was born in Concord, Massachusetts, we lived in Acton. When I was three we moved to Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. When I was ten we moved to Darien, Connecticut, and when I was sixteen we moved to Cazenovia, I’ve been in Central New York, off and on, ever since. My upbringing is what sociologists call an “anywhere” experience. This is when someone is not “from” anywhere but many places. Then there is the “somewhere” experience, people who stay in the community their whole lives. These two types of people explain much in modern society, from brand loyalty to attitudes towards politics or the economy. Yet people do change, I became a somewhere person as a priest, continuing to minister in Central New York my whole priesthood. “A house does not make a home” is an old saying. As a former anywhere who became a somewhere, I can tell you what made me feel at home, the Catholic Faith. Belonging to a parish in each place we lived growing up gave us an instant connection in a new place. We are beginning our RCIA program, bringing people into the Catholic Church. Now is a perfect time to invite someone to church, if they’ve been away, or to become a Catholic. If you’ve been coming here, but have never become Catholic, there’s no time like the present to become Catholic. If you know of anyone who is lost, has no direction in life, invite him or her to St. Joseph’s for Mass. Let them know that this community, the Scriptures, the Eucharist, and a living relationship with Jesus, all this has given your life direction, hope and a spiritual home. Tell them this is the perfect time to join with others in exploring the Catholic faith and discerning God’s call in their life. My mother lived in twelve different homes in her life, but she had a spiritual home, the Catholic Church that gave her hope. When she was laid to rest in her hometown I know she was praying for all of us to find our true heavenly home that we begin to enter through the Church. Heart speaks to heart,

Fr. Rob Hyde

Padre’s Pace 2021: Another very successful event this year!

This being the 14th year of this fundraiser for our St. Joseph’s Food Pantry~ we are happy to report that we raised over $3200.00 and the money is still coming in. With Confirmation candidates, Jr. High TeenFaith students, their families’ and parishioners participating, we had over 160 participants. The weather was gorgeous, and everyone had a great, great time. Again, I’d like to mention that the committee that organizes this event does a wonderful job. Thank you to Janelle Collins, Noelle DeSantis and Mike Stanistreet! We’d also like to thank Cam’s, Top’s & Buranich Funeral Home for their generous donations in supporting our event. Thank you to our Confirmation parents who were our adult volunteers on the route helping to guide the energies of all those young adults and handing out drinks and snacks when they returned! Thanks to John Heagerty, Ed Doran, John Wylie and Jeff Reina for being our “cookers on the grills!”

The most important fact to remember: 100% of

the proceeds raised this past weekend goes directly to our St. Joseph’s Food Pantry!

Lord, when I feel like I'm drowning in my work and responsibilities, in my worries and troubles, in my anxiety and fear... When I feel like I'm drowning in my loneliness, in my grief over loss, in my self and in my passions, in my foolishness and confusion... When I feel like I'm drowning in my sins and my failures, in my sorrow and hopelessness, drowning in my doubt... When I feel like I'm drowning, Lord: remind me that you're always there, that you see me in the depths, that you reach down and take my hand to draw me up and out until I break the surface and your Spirit fills my soul 'til I breathe again in hope to live another day... When I feel like I'm drowning, Lord: remind me that you walk the waters of my life and will not let me perish, that you'll rescue me and pull me from the depths where I am sinking, that you'll save me from myself... When I feel like I'm drowning, Lord: remind me that you'll never abandon me or let me slip beyond your grasp, that your hand will hold me fast and pull me free of danger 'til I rest, secure and safe, in you and in your peace... Amen.

I Choose Again I choose again today

to believe in you, your goodness and faithfulness, your strength when I am weak,

and your good, perfect, and pleasing plans for me.

I choose to walk in faith, without hurry or panic, without fear and stress, in fellowship with you

and love toward all, as you help me, in Jesus' name,

Amen.
