    • Pre-AP vs. AP classes• 14 AP courses available at AHS• Rigorous courses• GPA points

    • Students take a College Board AP test at the end of the course (AISD pays for the cost of this exam)• Students who score a 3, 4, or 5 can receive college credit

  • WHY TAKE AP CLASSES?

    •College admissions•Receive college credit• Skip introductory classes•Build college skills• Extra GPA points

  • HOW TO TAKE AP CLASSES

    • Two ways:• Administrative decision based

    on test results• Complete an application for the

    AP program

  • DUAL CREDIT

  • DUAL CREDIT PROGRAM

    •What is Dual Credit? • Dual credit is a program where students simultaneously earn

    college credit and high school credit at the same time. • ENG 1301 counts for college credit and high school English 3

    • How do I qualify? • Students must pass an entrance exam called the TSI

    • AHS is a TSI testing center and pays for the initial testing session (savings of $40 for student)

    • 3 tests (Math, Reading and Writing) • Students may retest any portion for $5 (savings of $35 for student)

  • HOW TO TAKE DUAL CREDIT CLASSES

    • Students register through Crystal Langley, dual credit counselor • AHS pays for tuition and fees • Students must pay AHS back if they drop or fail a class

    • Books are paid for by the student• Transportation is provided by AHS – busses to and from the college• 9th and 10th grade students may be interviewed by TVCC

    • Application Process• Applications submitted (February of 8th grade)• Names drawn for freshman cohort (March)• After drawing:• Parent Orientation Meeting (March or April)• TSI Test (May)• Prep Camp (summer)• Book Project (projects complete by Prep Camp)• Fully accepted on last day of Prep Camp

  • GRADUAL RELEASE PLAN FOR ASSOCIATES DEGREE

    School Year Number of College Classes

    Freshman 2 classes = 6 hours

    Sophomore 2 classes = 6 hours

    Junior 8 classes = 24 hrs

    Senior 8 classes = 24 hrs

  • REQUIREMENTS/SAFEGUARDS

    • Nothing excludes a student from participating in an Early College High School• The ECHS model was designed to target underrepresented
