FOR THE 83rd TIME!It all began years ago, 83, to be exact – in 1932! The Kiwanis Club of Lakewood, then 11 years old, was looking for new and fun ways to expand its “Interclub” schedule and together with West Park Kiwanis developed the idea of alternating locations for an annual luncheon. Past Lt. Governor Bill Lanphair, a member of the West Park Club donated the Cowbell Trophy and we were underway! Lakewood won the trophy the first two years and the West Park club came back strong, taking the Cowbellhome in 1934, 35 and 36. But then, a strange thing happened….West Park decided to change meeting halls, moving to the Bethany Lutheran Church on Lorain and Trisket (Road). That turn of events was all Lakewood needed to recapture the trophy in 1937. Throughout the years, Lakewood and West Park have always enjoyed the friendly “Cowbell Competition”. Sharing lunch, ideas and fellowship is what Kiwanis is all about…It’s what we do best! By the way, if you look closely at the engraved portion of the Cowbell, you will notice a slight misspelling… Interclub is actually spelled “I-N-E-R-C-L-U-B”.
