The Glandular System
The Glandular System• Do you….
– Wake up as tired as when you went to bed?– Have trouble sleeping or staying asleep?– Have coarse or blemished skin?– Feel irritable?– Feel tired after eating?– Have trouble focusing?– Have problems maintaining weight?– Have hormonal problems?– Have problems maintaining ideal temperature?– Feel depressed or anxious?
Can Stress Really Make Me Sick?
• When we think of stress from: – emotional trauma, chemical toxins, poor diet – Infections, anxiety or depression – lack of sleep, excess exercise, pregnancy – physical trauma, prescription drugs or just poor
lifestyle• We must realize that over time it will cause
inflammation, free radical damage and fatigue, which will break down the cells of the body and cause disease.
The Adrenal Glands
• The adrenal glands are thumb shaped organs that sit on top of the kidneys.
• If you break down the word adrenal, you will see ad meaning on top and renal meaning kidney, showing us that the adrenals sit on top of the kidneys.
The Adrenal Glands• Many people will not
even recognize that they have a problem with their adrenals because of their use of stimulants such as coffee, tea, soda, chocolate, cigarettes and sugar.
• But not having even energy throughout the day shows a shortage in the adrenal glands.
The Adrenal Glands• The adrenal glands
play an important role in the body, producing numerous hormones that:– impact our
development and growth
– affect our ability to deal with stress
– help to regulate kidney function
Get to Know Your Adrenals!• The Adrenals:
– Provide energy to the system – Help to power the mitochondria or
powerhouse of the cell by creating energy for needed functions in the body.
– Reduce Inflammation by producing cortisol –an anti-inflammatory agent.
– Are weakened by physical, environmental or psychological stress
– Are important to digestion.– Are important to immune health.
Get to Know Your Adrenals!
• The Adrenals:– Create DHEA which creates other important
hormones.– When weakened, may be a contributor to
insomnia.– When weakened, can cause low libido.– Regulate blood sugar.– Regulate mood.– When weakened, can cause allergies.
Do You Need to Build Your Adrenals?
• Look over the following checklist. Check any that apply to you:
Constant fatigue Low blood pressure Hard pebble like stools or constipation Unusually low sex drive Cravings for salt or salty foods Mood swings, especially anxiety, panic, or phobia Colder than those around you Problems with memory, focus or concentration Chronic pain in the lower neck and upper back
Do You Need to Build Your Adrenals?
Nervousness Inability to concentrate and/or confusion Do you drink caffeinated beverages on a daily
basis? Extreme sensitivity of odors and/or noises Do you have a lack of satiety after eating? Aches and pains of limbs, unrelated to exertion Mood swings Vulnerability to food reactions/allergies• If you checked 4 or more, please consider using a formula to build
the adrenal glands.• If 6 or more are checked, now is the time to get on a formula for the
adrenal glands.
Supplements
• The adrenal glands like sugar but they need: – Vitamin C– B5 or Pantothenic Acid– Licorice Root– AdaptaMax– Adrenal Support
Vitamin C
• Prolonged periods of stress, smoking, pollution, aspirin or pain killers will deplete or interfere with the absorption of vitamin C.
• It is necessary for creating collagen which is needed to make connective tissue, ligaments, and skin.
• Vitamin C will build the adrenal glands and will be helpful in the fight and flight response, producing adrenalin for building energy and overcoming fatigue.
Licorice Root • Increase sexual energy• Build immune health• Increase stamina & energy • Reduce inflammation• Encourages production of
interferon• Hypoglycemia• Low blood pressure• Hepatitis• Gastrointestinal • Respiratory • Stress• For long term use, add
Potassium Combination
B5 or Pantothenic Acid

What Can I Do to Strengthen My Adrenals?
• Exercise• Start to relax earlier in the evening around 9 p.m.
and get to sleep by 10 p.m.• Listen to relaxing, encouraging, uplifting music• Eat smaller portion sizes. • Consume easily digested proteins and include more
raw foods and good fats to keep blood sugar balanced.
• Replace negative thoughts with more positive thoughts.
• Prayer• Have good outlets for emotions – travel, hobbies,
clubs, good uplifting relationships, church, etc….
The Thyroid Gland - Hypothyroidism
• Hypothyroidism probably affects hundreds of thousands of people but is often never diagnosed. As a result only 5% of the population has received a diagnosis.
• So if you have low body temperature, headaches, dry eyes/blurred vision, digestive problems, fluid retention, dry skin/hair, weight gain, inability to lose weight, brittle nails, insomnia, hair loss, easy bruising skin, elevated cholesterol, anxiety, food intolerances, excessive sweating, low energy, poor coordination, acne, infertility or low libido, you may be dealing with hypothyroidism.
The Thyroid Gland
• The thyroid is a small gland, normally weighing less than one ounce, located in the front of the neck.
• There are two halves to the thyroid, called lobes.
• They lie along the windpipe (trachea) and are joined together by a narrow band of thyroid tissue, known as the isthmus.
The Thyroid Gland
• The thyroid’s function is to take iodine from foods and convert it into thyroid hormones.
• Since we don’t have the iodine in the majority of the foods that we eat, we can be short on this needed mineral.
The Thyroid Gland
• The thyroid regulates metabolism, temperature and hormones
• a healthy thyroid can be helpful in skin care, colon health and weight management.
The Thyroid Gland
• Thyroid cells are the only cells in the body which can absorb iodine, we need to keep them healthy!
• These cells can combine iodine and the amino acid tyrosine to make T3 and T4.
The Thyroid Gland• As we give our bodies proper levels of iodine,
the T3 and T4 will be made by the thyroid gland, and they will be released into the blood stream
• From there, they will be transported throughout the body where they will control metabolism (conversion of oxygen and calories to energy).
• It is important to note that every cell in our body depends upon a healthy thyroid for regulation of their metabolism.
Thyroid Temperature Test• This test is an excellent way to determine thyroid
function using basal body temperature (the body's temperature at rest).
• If the thyroid is running low, the body's temperature will drop below normal while the body is at rest-sleep. This test is done by measuring the underarm temperature upon waking after a night's sleep.
• For accuracy, the test is performed five mornings in a row and then the mean average is calculated.
• The instructions for performing the test are as follows:
Thyroid Temperature Test• The night before, shake down the
thermometer (an oral glass thermometer only), and set it on the night stand next to the bed.
• Immediately upon waking, without raising your head from the pillow, place the thermometer under the arm.
• Leave thermometer under arm for 10 minutes.
• Move as little as possible in this process; you must remain flat on your back during this entire time otherwise the thyroid gland will be activated and a false reading will be taken.
Thyroid Temperature Test5. After ten minutes, remove thermometer and
record temperature.
6. The test is invalidated if you expend any energy just before recording the temperature, i.e. getting up for any reason, shaking down the thermometer, etc.
7. For Results: Add all 5 temperatures and divide total by 5
8. An average temperature between 97.8 and 98.2 is considered normal.
• Look over the following checklist. Check any that apply to you:
Irregular menses, PMS, ovarian cysts, endometriosis Constipation despite adequate fiber and liquids in diet High cholesterol despite good diet Unusually low sex drive Frequent headaches (especially migraine) Mood swings, especially anxiety, panic, or phobia Colder than those around you Problems with memory, focus or concentration

The Pituitary Gland
• The pituitary gland, a small gland about the size of a pea at the base of the brain controls the thyroid gland.
The Pituitary Gland
• When the level of thyroid hormones of T3 and T4 drops too low, the pituitary gland produces thyroid stimulating hormone also known as TSH which stimulates the thyroid gland to produce more hormones.
The Pituitary Gland• The pituitary helps control
– growth – temperature regulation– conversion of food into
energy – blood pressure – breast milk production– controls the absorption of
water into the kidneys– stimulation of uterine
contractions during childbirth
– thyroid gland function– sex organ function in both
the male and female

What Can I do to Balance the Female Glandular System?
• As we work on the Female Glandular System besides the before mentioned items, keep in mind that the adrenals produce DHEA and that DHEA will help our bodies produce all the other hormones that we need, so it will be very helpful to keep the adrenal gland healthy.
• Also keep in mind that all of the glands work together as a whole and so keeping balance within the entire system will benefit here as well.
Where Can I Start If I’m Not Sure?
• Feeding the glands encourages long term quality health and a pleasant attitude.
• If you aren’t sure where to start, you can’t go wrong with either of the following two formulas since they will begin to bring balance into all of the glands.

Where Can I Start If I’m Not Sure?
• We can see that the majority of us deal with some sort of glandular imbalance.
• The problem is that our current health system does not recognize many of these problems and they also do not have the methods of testing for these shortages.
• We also find that many times the testing methods that they use are not able to find the imbalance until the gland has caused tremendous damage.
• Feeding the glands encourages long term quality health and a pleasant attitude.
