    A SIA N C ENTURY. PO WERED BY M IC RO S.

NOT ONLYyou, not only them, not only him or her, not only us should

reap the fruits of their, and our labor. That is the true meaning of lahat

tayo dapat, sa pag-asenso. It can be, but can never always be, tayo-

It just

cannot be the haves, minus the have-nots. It is not fair, reasonable and

just to entertain only the big, and relegate the small into the misfortunes

of history, like it or not.

This is the first time in the history of newspaper publishing in The

Philippines that an editorial of a business broadsheet is written in the

Filipino language, predominantly Tagalog, but Oh so rich in six, 60 to600 other regional languages and dialects. Some, if not a few, of the

words and phrases from such lingua franca had found its way in the

lexicon of World English, according to Microsoft Encarta. They call it

Filipino-English. Not so many times that an editorial is published on the

    front pages of any paper.

This is the first time that an editorial of an English paper is written in

    wikang pambansa.

This is the first time that a Philippine broadsheet newspaper, in Manila

or elsewhere across the nation, whether in Cebu, Davao, Baguio, Subic

or Clark in Central Luzon or Southern Tagalog, is publishing a full page

(supposedly, but business prevailed in this Inaugural) or a section dubbed

as Filipinong-Filipino, and not just the Editorial on this front page with

jump or pasa on Page 2.

The publishers and editors of theBUSINESS Paper are, by nature,

groundbreakers, trailblazers, pioneers, selfdrivers, gogetters and

synonymous other adjectives. In one word: entrepreneurial.

theBUSINESS Paper is dedicated to the uplift of the microbiz, the small

and medium enterprises (SMEs), startups and other entrepreneurships.

In short, theBUSINESS Paper shall work for the good, better and best

interest of true and genuine entrepreneurship.

George Lucas. Ngayon na, now na, as in

theBUSINESS Paper, by the way, will become the first-ever national

and international broadsheet newspaper, with great potentials, on, for

and about the small business who shall become big. The chambers of

commerce are one with us in this advocacy.

OFF THE PRESSFROM 2010 and onwards, the next presidents ofthe Republic of the Philippines will no longer putup with just the countrys Gross NationalProduct, Gross Domestic Product and othereconomic indicators. They will have to put up

with the peoples Gross National Happiness(GNH).

GNH, according to Wikipedia, is an attempt to definequality of life in more holistic and psychological terms

than GNP, GDP, etc .The term was coined by Bhutans King Jigme Singye

Wangchuck in 1972 in response to criticism that hiseconomy was growing poorly. It signaled hiscommitment to building an economy that would serveBhutans unique culture based on Buddhist spiritual

values. Like many moral goals, it is somew hat easier tostate than to define. Nonetheless, it serves as a unifying

vision for the Five Year planning process and all thederived planning documents that guide the economicand development plans of the country.

While conventional development models stresseconomic growth as the ultimate objective, the conceptof GNH claims to be based on the premise that truedevelopment of human society takes place whenmaterial and spiritual development occur side by side

to complement and reinforce each other. The fourpillars of GNH are the promotion of equitable andsustainable socio-economic development, preservationand promotion of cultural values, conservation of thenatural environment, and establishment of good

    governance.

Presented by the Quezon City Chamber of Commerce andIndustry (QCCCI) of 2008-2009

Blessed are the strange, the weird, the people we laugh at, those whodo not fit our mold, specially the socially wretch and despised. By their presence in our lives, they expand our reality, on our part, reluctantly, and on theirs, so painfully, by forcing us to look at them in the hope that

we see God in them.Blessed are the depressed and the addicted, for they are calledupon to demonstrate the healing miracles of God through their ownawakening.

Blessed are those who are broken, those who fail, those who fall belowour expectation, for they are asked to show the rest of us that not beingperfect is part of the human condition; that accepting our imperfection isthe first step in our realization of the divine perfection of all that is.

Blessed are the cruel, the callused and uncaring, for on some deepunconscious level, they choose to delay their own liberation, so that othersmaybe enlightened by their example.

Blessed are those who cause us to suffer repeatedly by their mistakes, for they are our tutors who spend valuable time so that we learn ourlessons well.

The Universal Filipino BeatitudesBlessed are the nameless, the faceless, the dispossessed, the refugees,

the homeless, and the poor, for they point us to the way to compassion.By their sheer numbers, they tell us that ultimately, the experience ofcompassion is inescapable.

Blessed are the people who arouse us to anger, those who0 bring outthe worst in us, for they force us out of the denial that we harborwithin; that we are hooked on them, that they resonate with somethinghidden inside us; and to break free, we must let go of our misguidedmoral superiority.

Blessed are those who do not seem to have a life, and specially thosewho do not have a choice, those who ar e physically debilitated, paralyzedor in a coma and cannot move, for they bring us a message that is lost inthe age of frenzy; that to be worthy of Gods love, we need to strive todo or achieve anything, but simple BE.

Blessed are all of us, for whatever condition we find ourselves in, wecan choose to remember our true nature, our original blessing, ourtimeless grace anytime, any place and always and be happy in ourOneness! JIM PAREDES

(BUSINESS JOURNALISM CODE OF ETHICS by the Society of

    American Business Editors and Writers)

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: It is not enough that we be

incorruptible and act with honest motives. We must conduct all

aspects of our lives in a manner that averts even the appearance of

conflict of interest or misuse of the power of the press.

A business, financial and economics writer should:

Recognize the trust, confidence and responsibility placed in him or

her by the publications readers and do nothing to abuse this

obligation. To this end, a clear-cut delineation between advertising

and editorial matters should be maintained at all times.

Avoid any practice which might compromise or appear to

compromise his objectivity or fairness. He or she should not let any

personal investments influence what he or she writes. On some

occasions, it may be desirable for him or her to disclose his or her

    investment positions to a superior.

Avoid active trading and other short-term profit-seeking

opportunities. Active participation in the markets which such

activities require is not compatible with the role of the business and

financial journalist as disinterested trustee of the public interest.

Not take advantage in his or her personal investing of any inside

information and be sure any relevant information he or she may have

is widely disseminated before he buys or sells.

Make every effort to insure the confidentiality of information held for

publication to keep such information from finding its way to those who

might use it for gain before it becomes available to the public.

Accept no gift, special treatment or any other thing of more than

token value given in the course of his professional activities. In addition,

he or she will accept no out-of-town travel paid for by anyone other

than his or her employer for the ostensible purpose of covering or

backgrounding news. Free-lance writing opportunities and honoraria for

speeches should be examined carefully to assure that they are not in fact

disguised gratuities. Food and refreshments of ordinary value may be

accepted where necessary during the normal course of business.

Encourage the observance of these minimum standards by all

    business writers.

ADDENDUM to Code of Ethics... Guidelines to Insure Editorial

    Integrity of Business News Coverage:

A clear-cut delineation between advertising and editorial matters

should be maintained at all times.

Material produced by an editorial staff or news service should be

used only in sections controlled by editorial departments.

Sections controlled by advertising departments should be distinctly

different from news sections in typeface, layout and design.

Promising a story in exchange for advertising is unethical.

Publishers, broadcasters and top newsroom editors should

establish policies and guidelines to protect the integrity of business

    news coverage.

Cautions On Use Of Non-Journalists With Conflicts Of Interest In The

Subject Matter:Using articles or columns written by non-journalists is

potentially deceptive and poses inherent conflicts of interest that

editors should guard against. This does not apply to clearly labeled

op-ed or viewpoint sections or Letters to the Editor.

    Were Copycats for Ethics

EYOND lipservice and publicpronouncements, the private publicpartnership(PPP)in health andwellness shouldbe a showcase ofsuccessfulbusiness model

owing to the fact that the same(also known as pinnacle ofhappiness to many )is theendpoint of each andeveryone. Sense of urgencyand special attention wouldhave been accorded to theendeavor by all stakeholders.Other PPPs have all beentainted with irregularities, namely, NAIA III, ZTE, etc.Hopes are high with theQCs One Town-One Product

(otop) which is to position the city as hub of Health andWellness. Simply scanning theenvironment in QC wouldmake one agree; a city with good infrastructure, parksand key health, medical, fitness, wellnessestablishments.

However, some must doscenarios are necessary forthe PPP to give its optimumbenefits, not just for the citybut to the nation as well.

One of this is the reactivation ofdata bank registry project underthe responsibility of QCCCI, as

the mandated official voice ofbusiness and not by any otherprivate enterprise. An active andwelldirected use of the registrywill facilitate clustering of linkagesin health and wellness that cutacross all industries. Two, thestrong representation of privatesector in the proposedamendment of Investment andEconomic Council; and three, theenactment of supporting legislationto give more value to the adoptedresolution on QCs OTOP thatcan be translated into incentivesand direct assistance to investorsin health and wellness in QC.

In all these endeavors, individual, organizational andsocietal wellness are endpointsand, therefore, deserving of fullsupport by everyone.

    bagamat nakaiintindi, nakapagsusulat, nakapagbabasa at

History of World Chamber MovementA CHAMBER of commerce(also referred to in somecircles as aboard of trade) isa form of business network.Business owners in towns andcities form these local societiesto pursue their own interests.

Local businessmen aremembers, and they elect anexecutive council to run thechamber.Chambers of commerce servethe following purposes:

Promotion of trade in theirown towns or cities. Obtaining and supportingmunicipal regulations in interestof business in their regions. Settlement of disputesbetween members by meansof arbitration. Collection of information andstatistics which may be of useto their members. Recording of a blacklist formembers reference. Prevention of unnecessarycompetition by establishinguniform hours, wages andprices. Advocating for businessfriendly policies at the state, local, federal, and internationallevels.

The first chambers ofcommerce were founded in1599 in continental Europe(Marseille, France and Brugge,Belgium). The worlds oldestEnglish-speaking chamber ofcommerce is that of Glasgow,Scotland, that was establishedin 1783.

    Characteristics

MEMBERSHIP in an individualchamber in an area can rangefrom a few dozen to well over

300,000 (as is the case with the

Paris Chamber of Commerceand Industry). Some chamberorganizations in China reporteven larger membershipnumbers. Chambers ofcommerce can range in sizefrom a single city or townchamber, to a county chamber,to a regional chamber, up to aninternational chamber ofcommerce.

The chambers do notoperate in the same manner asthe Better Business Bureau inthat, while the BBB has theauthority to bind its membersunder a formal operationsdoctrine (and, thus, canremove them if complaintsarise regarding their services),the local chamber membershipis strictly voluntary.

Chambers of commerce alsocan include economicdevelopment corporations orgroups (though the latter oftenis a formal branch of a localgovernment, the groups worktogether and may in somecases share office facilities) aswell as tourism and visitorsbureaus.

Some chambers have joinedstate, national, and eveninternational bodies (such asEUROCHAMBRES, theInternational Chamber ofCommerce (ICC) andWorldchambers). In themajority of countries, the useof the term chamber ofcommerce is regulated byfederal law. Currently, thereare about 13,000 chambersregistered in the officialWorldchambers Networkregistry, and the chamber ofcommerce network is thelargest business network

    globally.

    Chamber models

THERE are basically twochamber business membershipmodels worldwide, compulsory / public law orcontinental / private law.

    Compulsory/Public lawchambers

UNDERthe compulsory orpublic law model, companies ofa certain areas are obliged tobecome members of thechamber. This model iscommon in European Unioncountries (France, Germany,Italy, Spain). The main tasks ofthe chamber are foreign tradepromotion, training, andgeneral services to companies. The chambers also have aconsultive function; this meansthe chambers must beconsulted whenever a new lawrelated to industry orcommerce is proposed.

    Continental/Private lawchambers

UNDERthe private model, which exists in English-speakingcountries like USA, Canada orthe UK, companies are notobligated to become chambermembers. However, companies often becomemembers to develop theirbusiness contacts and, regarding the local chambers(the most common level oforganization), to demonstratea commitment to the localeconomy. Thoughgovernments are not requiredto consult chambers onproposed laws, the chambersare often contacted given theirlocal influence and membershipnumbers. (Wikipedia)

Chambers are not meant to be social clubs of big business, but a peoples assembly for small business

Entrepreneurship can

It is divine to berich, di ba sabi ni Deng

    Xiaoping,komunistang niyakap angkapitalismo.

So, ano ka,kaibigan, businessman oentrepreneur?.

groups at magbuild up ng website ukolsa pagnenegosyo. Gusto nating maginginteractive, connected at convergent
