WHO IS SAINT VALENTINE’S?
Saint Valentine of Rome is a third-century Roman saint
widely celebrated on February 14th and commonly
associated with “courtly love.”
The legends attributed to the mysterious saint are as
inconsistent as the actual identification of the man.
In 1969, the Roman Catholic Church removed St.
Valentine from the General Roman Calendar, because so
little is known about him. However, the church still
recognizes him as a saint, listing him the February spot
of Roman Martyrolgy.
St. Valentine is the Patron Saint of affianced couples,
bee keepers, engaged couples, epilepsy, fainting,
greetings, happy marriages, love, lovers, plague,
travelers and young people. He is represented in
pictures with birds and roses and his feast day is
celebrated on February 14th.

St. Patrick’s Day!! St. Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland, although he was born in Britain.
As a boy of 14 he was captured and taken to Ireland where he spent 6 years in slavery herding sheep. He returned to Ireland in his 30s as a missionary among the Celtic pagans.
Legend has it that he used the native shamrock as a symbol of the hoy trinity when preaching and brought the Latin alphabet to Ireland.
Wearing green, eating green food and even drinking green beer, is said to commemorate St. Patrick’s use of the shamrock-although blue was the original color of his vestments.
St. Patrick’s Day was first celebrated in America in Boston, Massachusetts in 1737. Around 34 million modern Americans claim Irish ancestry.
It is believed that St. Patrick died on March 17th in 461AD. It is a national holiday in Ireland.
Dublin has a parade that attracts hundreds of thousands of people, while in Chicago, the river is dyed green for a few hours.
