THE YORKTOWN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS Each year the Yorktown Chamber awards several scholarships to deserving
college bound seniors - and as always, we need your help!
We need you, our Chamber members, to recommend candidates who are college bound seniors with strong aca-demic achievement and significant involvement in schools activities and community services. Candidates must have applied to or been accepted by an accredited college. We are limiting the search to young people with a connection to Yorktown and the Chamber. They must be at least one of the following: (i) the child or grandchild of a Chamber member, (ii) a resident of the Town of Yorktown, or (iii) enrolled at Yorktown High School, Walter Panas High School or Lakeland High School.
Even more important, we need your contributions! It is not too late to be a part of this drive. Any amount, no matter how small, will increase the number of scholarships we can give and the amount we have available to give deserving candidates. Once again we are excited to announce an additional scholarship, The Constance M. Petri Scholarship, funded by the Petri family, in the amount of $2,500.00. As an added incentive, all donors will be invited to be our guests at the Scholarship Awards Dinner on July 11, 2016 at Little Sorrento Restaurant.
CAN WE COUNT ON YOU? Please send your recommendations and your contributions to the Chamber as soon as possible.

The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Peekskill opened its doors on April 17, 2014. To build a hotel was a long time dream for George Liaskos who, along with his family, has owned and operated the Cortlandt Colonial Restaurant & Ballroom for more than 35 years. With the rise of industry and tourism in the Hudson Valley, the new hotel has proven to be a brilliant addition to the region.
The hotel offers scenic views of the Hudson River and Bear Mountain from historic Charles Point and Fleischmann Pier. A new walking trail connect-ing from our doorstep to Riverfront Green Park in Peekskill was opened just in time for spring. Whether traveling for business or leisure, our guests take advantage of the small town comforts of downtown Peekskill and neighboring communities featuring a wealth of options for dining, shopping and live entertainment.
Our guests enjoy the following amenities and prop-erty features:• Studio suite, deluxe and standard

As we move into spring, there is no shortage of action at the Chamber. Right now we are turning our attention to our 18th Annual Dinner Dance at Villa Barone on May 21. As reported, this year our honorees are: Business Couple of the Year, Rita and Joe Bertino of Camp Nabby, Organization of the Year, Yorktown Citizens Task Force Against Heroin and the Chairman’s Award, Former Town Clerk, Alice Roker. The recipients are all awesome. Visit our website or call the office (914-245-4599) for more details. Your support of this event helps the Chamber in its continued efforts to support the Yorktown business community as well as giving you a chance to congratulate a friend who is being honored while promoting your business. It is a gala not to be missed!
The February Jilco/Yorktown Chamber of Commerce Home Lifestyle & Family Show in the JV Mall was a great success. I would like to thank our major sponsor, Jilco, and everyone who contributed to make this event so amazing.
We had an excellent turnout at our March 14 networking meeting at Farmers Agent in Yorktown hosted by Luis Guerra, yet another opportunity where host and attendees can network. Our next networking meeting will be on April 11th at DML Mortgage Enterprises, Inc.
After our April 4th breakfast networking meeting scheduled at Lakeland Central School District in Shrub Oak, our future breakfast networking meetings will take place on the first Monday of each month at Frankie & Augie’Z Ristorante in Jefferson Valley at 7:30 am with scheduled guest speakers. We introduced these meetings so that members who cannot make the evening meetings can be accommodated. They have met with great success.
The Chamber constantly tries to stretch itself to promote and include as many new business opportunities as possible to its members. I am happy to announce just such a venue: “The Yorktown Young Professional’s Network.” We are looking to attract dynamic and energetic young professionals in the area. Look to see
more information about this exciting new path the Chamber is taking.
As you know, each year the Chamber reaches out to all its members with an appeal to support our local youth by contributing to our Annual Scholarship fund. We also are pleased to announce that we partnered with Burger King in their generous offer to donate 20% of their June 17 proceeds (a flyer must be submitted with your order) benefitting our Scholarship Fund. We thank you if you have already contributed and sincerely hope that you will participate this year. We look forward to awarding scholarships to deserving young students at our Scholarship Awards Dinner in July where you will hopefully be attending as our guest.
I hope that with the weather cooperating and longer daylight hours, you can start to enjoy this beautiful Town of Yorktown and everything that it has to offer and as always, my door is always open to all members with any concerns or suggestions.
