WELCOME TO THE YWELCOME TO THE Y
MEMBERSHIP FOR ALL
We believe everyone deserves a Y, so the Kishwaukee Family YMCA and DeKalb Barb
City YMCA offer financial assistance to individuals and families who might other-
wise not be able to afford membership or program fees. Ask a staff member about
financial assistance. It’s easy to apply and the Y does everything it can to make the Y
a place for all.
VOLUNTEER, DONATE, ADVOCATE
As a nonprofit, the Y is able to strengthen community because of the dedicated
youth, families and individuals who share our passion and make the Y part of their
lives. They give their time, resources and talents—every day and in hundreds of
ways—because they know they can improve the lives of others while enhancing their
own through the Y.
Well-being for many of our neighbors is all too frequently limited by income or social
isolation. In low-income communities, the Y offers opportunities for every child,
teen or adult to achieve his or her potential regardless of economic status. With your
help, the Y can continue to expand programming and outreach where it is needed
most. Please consider volunteering your time, making a contribution, or sharing your
story of the Y’s impact.
Throughout DeKalb County, countless people know the Y. But there’s so much more to our Y than one might think.
From exercise to education, from volleyball to volunteerism, from preschool to preventive health, the Y doesn’t just strengthen our bodies. It strengthens our community.
The Y is so much more than a gym. It’s a cause, dedicated to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. For over 150 years, we’ve been proud to help our neighbors learn, grow and thrive. Yet we’re called to do so much more. DeKalb County faces challenges that create a greater need than ever for the work we do every day. Fortunately, where some see obstacles, we see opportunities for our members, volunteers and staff to make a difference.
• Together, we will: Teach skills and values that help create a path to success for kids and teens.
• Inspire people of all ages to play, be active, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
• Engage in work that fosters an inclusive, collaborative, proactive approach in addressing community needs.
But we need your philanthropic support to make it happen.
Every gift makes a difference. Everyone has a role to play. Together, we can achieve so much more. Give today. Contact Debbie Madeley, Development Director at 815.756.9577 or [email protected] to join our cause!

We believe all children deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential. The YMCA Afterschool Program also accepts 4C.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Parents’ work schedules do not always match school days off, continuous activities are offered during breaks and during inclement weather at the Kishwaukee Family YMCA through our No School, No Problem program. The days are divided into 3 sections, Crafts & Sports, Lunch & Learn and Game Time.

Adventure Guides YMCA Adventure Guides is a family program designed for a parent andhisorherfivetonineyearoldchild.InYMCAAdventureGuides, parentslead, influence, andteachwhilepresentingopportunitiesforchildren to explore the world around them. They lead by example as they set their children on a path through life.
In the early years, the program is a side-by-side journey before children are launched into more advanced, independent activities. In the YMCA Adventure Guides program, the journey occurs within the context of a small Circle community.
The Circle is the program’s basic group unit, providing a structure, a sense of community, and support for all group activities. Adventure Guides (parents) and Explorers (children) meet in Circles and partici-pate in Expedition adventures (e.g., overnight camping) throughout the year.
The Kishwaukee Family YMCA Adventure Guides hold monthly circle meetings and special events. For more information, contact Lesley Feyerherm at 815.756.9577 ext 13 or [email protected]

Cancer is a life-changing disease that takes a tremendous physical and emotional toll on those affected. The Y and LIVESTRONG have joined together to create LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a research-based physical activity and well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their total health.
Participants work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve their goals such as building muscle mass and strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem. By focusing on the whole person and not the disease, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is helping people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.
