• The wig was bought at a convention. I cut the length and styled
with heat. The
points are secured with tacky glue. The emblem was made of foam
sealed with
mod podge and painted gold then glued to an alligator clip.
• The cape was made by drafting a pattern of my neck and drawing on
the shape of
the collar of the cape. Once the collar was cut out I ironed on
interfacing and
sewed the body of the cape to the front edge of the collar right
sides together. The
inside was turned by hand and whipped stitched in place. Once the
collar was
assembled trim was sewn on by hand and the bottom was leveled and
hemmed.
• The gloves were made by tracing my hand onto paper and extending
the wrist
outward to make the glove gape away from my hand like the reference
picture.
The pattern was traced to white spandex, then doubled over and sewn
on the
traced line. A lining for the outer cuff was attached to the bottom
and turned
inward then hand sewn in place to allow stretch. The blue band was
made from a
tube of blue suede, turned rights side out and sewn to be flat. The
ends were
finished and then the stripes were tacked to the front of the glove
and close on the
bottom of the glove with snaps.
• The thin blue arm band was made from a tube of blue suede, turned
rights side out
and sewn to be flat. The strip was then measured to my arm
circumference and
sewn together.
• The long arm bands were patterned by using saran wrap and masking
tape to get a
rough shape. The pattern was then modified to lace up instead of
being a solid
piece to allow for better arm movements as well as to add a touch
of personal
design choices.
• The skirt is a box pleated skirt that was made at the longest
length needed and cut
into the diagonal shape after assembled. The bottom was hemmed and
stiff lace
was added as trim instead of a white band to make the skirt more
delicate.
• The belt is blue suede, buckram, ribbon, and blue/green pleather.
The four
pleather shapes that hang over the skirt were easier to place on
the belt instead of
the skirt in order to keep all the skirt closures hidden. The belt
was assembled by
cutting the desired length out of buckram and covering the front
with suede, the
suede was sewn on and the buckle mechanism was attached then the
pleather
shapes were sewn to the underneath. A ribbon the same width as the
belt was then
whip stitched to the back of the belt to cover all the raw edges.
After trying the
belt on I marked where the belt holes needed to go. The holes were
then punched
out with a leather punch and metal eyelets were installed by
hand.
• The socks were a gift and I do not know where they were purchased
from. The
blue stripe was made from a tube of blue suede, turned rights side
out and sewn to
be flat. They were then measured to the right length and tacked in
four places to
the socks.
• The shoes were thrifted black heels. I cut any decorations off
and stuffed them
with news paper to fill them out while I worked on them. The first
alteration was
painting the sole and heel with gold paint, they were painted in
several layers to
make it opaque and sealed in with mod podge to keep the paint from
chipping.
Once the paint was dried I pinned cotton material around the boot
to create a
pattern for the boot cover. The pattern was refined and pinned to
the blue pleather.
Once it was assembled I used contact cement to adhere the cover to
the boot. The
cuff of the boot is two rectangles sewn together with wire attached
around the
edge to make them poseable and trimmed with gold ribbon that was
then painted
with a few layers of gold paint to match the heel.
• The soul gem was made by getting silver backed oblong gems and
stripping the
silver backing off of the back of the gem and painting the moon
shape onto the
gem. The negative space was filled in with more gold paint. The
gold base was
made from foam sealed with mod podge and painted gold. It attaches
to my skin
with eyelash glue.
• The pattern of the shirt was made by using cling wrap and masking
tape to get the
basic shape of my torso, a mock up was then made and altered until
it got the
desired shape. I then cut the new pattern out on white canvas and
did the side
seams up with French seams and hemmed the top edge. The bottom
lower edge
was turned in once and then turned in again but with a pleated trim
instead of a
hem, this left the trim with raw edges that were secured with fray
check. The trim
was made by cutting out 2 in wide strips of the white canvas and
sewing them
together end to end. The long strip was then folded in half and
pleated by hand
with one-inch pleats. The front of the top was then trimmed with
gold ribbon that
was folded in half and hand sewn on. It closes at the top with a
snap and the
buttons are from a vintage collection. The breast plate holds the
top in place.
• The breast plate was made on a strapless bra. The bra was put on
and then using
the clingwrap method the under bust and cup patterns were made. The
cups were
cut out and sewn together then glued straight to the cups of the
bra. Using the
under bust pattern, I made the rest of the breast plate. I cut the
shape out of foam
with no seam allowance. Using the foam template, I cut out blue
pleather with
seam allowance. I then used plastidip to seal the foam piece, once
it was sealed I
used contact cement to glue the pleather to the foam. Once it was
dry I took the
eyelet installation kit and installed three eyelets on each side of
the back of the
breast plate. I then glued the cup area of the foam piece to the
underwire section
of the bra. Using hot glue I then trimmed the edge of the piece
with gold ribbon
and glued the pleated trim to the inside of the top edge. The piece
laces up with
gold ribbon.
• The wig was purchased from Lucaille.com only and the bangs were
trimmed, no
other styling was needed.
• The necklace is red ribbon that was cut to the size of her neck
and then secured
with a snap.
• The dress was made using the pattern Simplicity 1611. It was made
with pink
cotton as the base. The yellow panel is a pale-yellow cotton with a
white music
note pattern on it, it was made by turning a tube and lining it
with fleece to give it
a raised affect. The tube was flattened and lace was added to the
edges of it. The
tube was then pinned onto the dress and sewn in place. The neck
line was then
hemmed and lace was sewn onto the front of the dress. The sleeves
were made by
upsizing a sleeve pattern and cutting it out on white eyelet
cotton. The sleeve was
then folded at the edge to form a tube and elastic was inserted.
The sleeve was
then sewn up and gathered into the armhole. The zipper was
installed and then the
bottom of the dress was hemmed.
• The skirt was made by drafting a circle skirt and using 3x waist
measurement for
the waist of it. A rectangle that was 3x plus an inch the
measurement of the
circumference of the skirt was cut out, hemmed, and gathered into a
ruffle. The
ruffle was basted onto the lining layer and then sandwiched between
the two
layers of the skirt. Two rows of stitching were made along the
bottom in order to
make a casing for elastic. The waist was also flipped under to make
a casing for
elastic. Elastic was then pulled through both ends of the
skirt.
• The petals were made by drafting a circle skirt and then turning
the bottom into
the petal shape by separating it into six equal sections and
putting the point in the
middle of each section as a guideline. Two petal skirts were cut
out and sewed
together to make a lined skirt. The edge was beaded using a
continuous line
method of hand sewing them down. Then the appropriated number of
gems were
made by sanding off the silver backing from a clear gem, painting
them red, and
hot gluing them in place. The waist of the skirt was then flipped
under and hand
sewed to the main white skirt.
• The soul gem was made from a clear silver backed gem. The silver
backing was
removed with sand paper and the gem was buffed with a nail file
buffer. The gem
was then painted pink and attached to wax paper. The shape of the
gem holder
was sketched on the paper and made by carefully shaping gold hot
glue around
the shape on the paper. The shape was cut out and refined with heat
from the
nozzle of the gun. The gem is attached to the skin with eyelash
glue.
• The shoes were thrifted and socks purchased. The ruffles are a
garter made by
’
• The base of the sword was a toy katana bought from Spirit
Halloween and altered as
follows
o The original handle of the sword was first cut off
o Then using masking tape and blue paint the blue stripe was
painted on. Then the
tip was dry brushed with red paint.
o A cardboard template was designed for the handle, then two were
glued to the
base of the sword and a partial template in the middle.
o Then cardboard tubes were cut and glued to the inside of the
cardboard templates
for stabilization.
o The handle cover was made with cardboard and foam and sealed with
newspaper
strips and mod podge.
o All pieces were then painted by hand and sticker decorations were
glued on. To
make the weapon seem more magical and add a bit of flair we put
music note
stickers on the hilt in the arrangement of ‘Sayaka’s Score’ which
is the music
notes that surround her as a magical girl in episode 9.
o The whole prop was sealed with lacquer spray sealant.
o Flowers were then glued on.
’
• The base of the bow was a large pink and white rose bought from
Hobby Lobby and was
altered as follows
o The base of the large rose is made of wire and was bent into the
correct shape.
Then two smaller roses were cut and bent into shape then glued near
the top.
o The entire base of the bow was wrapped in newspaper strips that
were Mod
podged on. Once the base was dried it was painted with acrylic
paint.
o The paint of the bow was then sealed in using spray lacquer.
After the lacquer had
dried small led lights were glued in place in the petals of the
large flower as well
as on the base of the large flower were the stem connects to
it.
o Small pink flowers were added around the bow as well as fake
leaves. Clear silver
backed gems were used for the gems on the bow. The gems were sanded
on the
back to remove the silver backing and painted with pink nail polish
and glued to
the bow in the desired locations. Pink elastic is tied around the
top and bottom of
the bow to allow it to be unstrung in transit.
o The arrow was made by gluing two left over flower stems together
and placing
carboard on it for the tip and end of the arrow. The whole arrow
was then covered
in news paper and Mod podge and painted. The paint was sealed in
with spray
lacquer and flowers were glued to it.
