Expectation is that all teachers will be providing LEP accommodations to students in their classes

Access to accommodations on the SOL requires the completion of the LSAPP for each student

A school based committee meets to complete LSAPP

Committee will require information from classroom teachers regarding accommodations

English Learners Level 1 – 5 are eligible for LEP accommodations

Students who have refused ESOL services may still use LEP accommodations

Flexible Schedule (#1) Multiple breaks over one day Test over multiple days

Intention: For those with linguistic fatigue or need extra time

to complete due to being overwhelmed by volume of linguistic input Particularly those who have recently arrived to an

English-speaking country

Visual Aids (#4) Paper template to help students focus on

one item or line at a time

Intention: Primarily for visually impaired students Students taking a paper/pencil test due to

testing over multiple day testing accommodation

Read-Aloud: Read-Aloud (#10) Options for using this accommodation:

Read entire test aloud*** Read on demand *** Read questions aloud first and then read the passage Read word problems aloud(***VDOE has determined the online audio function meets the requirements)

This accommodation is not available on the Reading test.

Intention: For students whose aural (listening) proficiency is

significantly more developed than their reading proficiency

Read-Aloud: English Reading (#14) Options for using this accommodation:

Read entire test aloud*** Read on demand *** Read questions aloud first and then read the passage

Intention: For students whose aural (listening) proficiency is

significantly more developed than their reading proficiency

Available only to students retaking the English EOC Considered a non-standard testing accomodation

Bilingual Dictionary (#17) Paper, general, word-to-word dictionaries Must be used regularly by student before SOL

Intention: For students with home language literacy

Intention: For students unable to respond to items by

clicking or circling answers in their test booklets Due to interrupted schooling and/or limited

Dictation in English to a Scribe (#25) For Writing Assessment – short paper component Not available for use on the VGLA Reading

Intention: For students whose oral expression significantly

exceeds written expression Which would inhibit a valid assessment of what

English Dictionary (#29) Paper, general, word-to-word dictionaries May be used alone or with a bilingual dictionary Must be used regularly by student before SOL

Intention: Recommended for Levels 1 -3 and should be

cautiously considered for LEP students Level 4 and 5
