PAUL GUREV (Director)
Director Paul Gurev, active in Community Theatre formany years, and a veteran of over 90 productions to hiscredit, makes his debut with The West Valley Light Opera intheir production of "THE STUDENT PRINCE." His experi-ence as Producer and Director of his own theatre "CENTE RSTAGE" in Hollywood has provided him with valuable back-ground for his work as a community theatre director. Some ofhis credits in this area include "BAREFOOT IN THE PARK,""SEPARATE TABLES," "PAINT YOUR WAGON," "CUR-IOUS SAVAGE," "KISS ME KATE," and "MAME." He haswon two trophies as Best Director in this area, and is alsofamiliar in this community for his work with Children'sTheatre.
JEFFREY WAYNE (Count Detleff)
In addition to seven years of voice training, Jeff has hadextensive experience singing sacred music, including making arecord album of that type music. He has toured the U.S., in-cluding Hawaii, and Canada presenting musical programs forHigh School assemblies, has sung over the radio, and has ap-peared on television in conjunction with concert stage appear-ances. For a year he hosted musical vat ietv shows over TVChannel 3 in Eureka.
Portrayal of Count Detleff marks Jeff's first appearance ina West Valley Light Opera production.
JOHN P. HEALY, JR. (Prince Karl Franz)
A native New Yorker,John migrated to California six yearsago. He started his music theatre training at the Santa ClaraYouth Village Players, has since performed with the San JoseLight Opera, the Campbell District Players, and the WestValley Light Opera Association. He played Big Jim in "LittleMary Sunshine," Sandor in "The Fortune Teller," and Chari ieDalrymple in "Briqedoo n," in addi ton to other musicals.
John founded the CABRINI COMMUNITY THEATRElast May, and has directed sevor- of their plays. He sang assoloist in "The Messiah" of the Junior Music Festival of SantaClara County. A professional cell ist with the San Jose Symph-ony, John is studv inq at Stanford, where as may be expected,he is interested in musical theatre.
DICK VINE (Dr. Engel)
Dick Vine, our Dr. Engel in this production of THESTUDENT PRINCE, is playing his fir st role with the WestValley Light Opera Association. He has had leading parts inlocal productions of "Paint YourWagon"and "Kiss Me Kate,"these recent appearances marking Dick's return to the theatreafter leaving show business some years ago.
Following retirement from the professional theatre, Dickhas been employed by Lockheed in Sunnyvale.

YAVONE ERAL (Kathie)
After a "bit" part in the Italian film "Smog" in 1961,Yavone enjoyed leads as Eve in "Apple Tree," and as Amy in"Love in E Flat" with the Hillbarn Theatre. She played Mariain "West Side Story" with the Julian Company.
Other credits of interest include modeling with the AnnDemeter Agency of San Francisco, and with television com-mercials. This marks Yavone 's first appearance in a West Val-ley Light Opera musical.
ALBERT RUSSO (Lutz)
AI has been active in theatre since 1965, having been oneof the original members of the Actor's Repertory Theatre. In1968 AI served on the Council of Churches Player's Council,appearing in the cast of "Sleep of Prisoners." He has won act-ing awards for his parts in "View From The Bridge," and"Barefoot In The Park, "produced locally by the CommunityTheatre.
As Lutz, AI is making his first appearance in a West ValleyLight Opera Association musical.
CAROL DAVIS (Gretchen)
Carol played semi-professionally for two years as one ofthe MAR-KAY Trio in Southern California. She has sungsupporting roles in three Gilbert & Sullivan light operas, andhas played Sharon in "Finton's Rainbow." As a member of asemi-professional choral group, she has participated in severalrecordi ngs.
This marks Carol's second appearance with West ValleyLight Opera, having played the part of a harem girl in"Kismet. "
MAE KAUFMAN (Music Director)
A graduate and former faculty member of the JulliardSchool of Music, Mrs. Kaufman majored in piano, and has
appeared as soloist and in duo-piano performances, as well aschamber music groups. As accompanist and teacher she has
worked with Metropol i tan Opera soloists. Mrs. Kaufman hasdirected adult and children choirs and choral groups in NewYork, New Jersey and Missouri. As a pianist she specializes in
teaching young people.
