The Seasons

There are four seasons:

• Spring• Summer• Autumn• Winter

Present Continuous

Form:

Subject + am /is /are + verb-ing

Examples:

I’m reading a book

My sister’s writing a letter

The children are playing in the park

Use:

We use the Present Continuous to talk about actions which are happening at the moment of speaking.

We use the time expressions: now, at the moment, today and right nowright now.

Present Continuous:

It’s winter and it’s snowing now.

The kid is enjoying the cold weather.

He’s trying to taste the snow.

He’s wearing a cap and a coat.

Present Simple

Form:

Affirmative

Subject (I,you, we, they)+ verb

Subject (he, she, it) + verb-s/es

Examples:

I sometimes play tennis.

He goes to work by bus every day

The children study in their bedroom.

Use: - We use the Present Simple to talk

about routines and habits.

- To talk about something that is always true.

- To talk about something we like or we don’t like.

We use Adverbs of Frequency:

always, usually, often, sometimes and never.

We also use time expressions:

every day / once a day / twice a week / three times a month

Present Simple:

It is windy and it often rains in England.

I never smoke.

He sometimes plays videogames.

They often meet their friends on Fridays.
