Violations of 1783 Treaty of Paris

The British violated the 1783 Treaty of Paris (treaty that ended the American Revolution) by continuing to hold forts in America after the revolution.

Convention of 1800

Between US and France to settle hostilities.

Let America out of alliance with France.

Played a big role in allowing the Louisiana Purchase.

Embargo Act, Non-Intercourse Act, and Macon’s Bill #2

Embargo Act – US halted all trade, led to seizure of US ships

Non-Intercourse Act – lifted embargo on all but Britain and France

Macon’s Bill #2 – America would lift embargo on country that stopped seizing ships. Made Britain angry and led to War of 1812.

All of these hurt the economy, decreased international trade.

soldiers stationed in Canada.

Officials in British Canada were supplying arms to Native Americans in support of their ongoing battle against American settlers.

The British defeat at New Orleans boosted American morale

No more colonization.
