Members of the Nolan family lived in Emsdale for a number of years. The Emsdale Agricultural Society will hold their annual meeting in our centre on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. In order for this meeting to be successful, all directors and associate directors are urged to attend. Refreshments will be offered and everyone is wel- come. For more information please call 636-5659 or 636- 9741. Please save all your labels from Campbells, Pepperidge Farm and Goldfish products and give them to Evergreen Heights Education Centre. There are a number of drop-off boxes in our community. Services for the United Church in Sprucedale are at 9 a.m. each Sunday and while renovations are taking place at Emsdale United Church, the Harmony Congregation will meet at 11 a.m. in Knox United Church, Kearney. Reverend Nina Fulford will conduct the services on Sunday, Dec. 2. All are welcome. With funding approval from council, the Perry Township parks and rec committee will be putting sideboards on the Emsdale rink (located beside the Emsdale Community Centre) on Saturday Dec. 1 starting at 9 a.m. Volunteers willing to help with this project are welcome and will be greatly appreciated. If you have a battery-pow- ered drill with a screwdriver bit you may want to bring it along. A free barbecue will be provid- ed for the volunteers by the Highland Rovers Snowmobile Club and Hope’s Foodland at the groomer shed on Station Road. Also, the Perry Township parks and rec committee will be discussing the startup of their new walking-geo caching -social club at their next regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. in the council chambers located at the back of the Almaguin Highlands informa- tion centre on Hwy. 11. Anyone interested in helping with or joining this club is welcome to attend. Parks and rec meetings are held in the council cham- bers the second Monday of every month starting at 7 p.m. and are always open to anyone who would like to attend. The Emsdale Wednesday evening special games bingo winners were Pat Manley and Pat Perry. Interested in having fun and exercise at the same time? Kearney parks and recreation is considering offering ballroom dance classes. If you are inter- ested in these classes, line dancing, square dancing or have other ideas for recreation- al activities please call Carol at 636-7371. The Emsdale-Scotia Women’s Institute members reported a successful Christmas tea held in our cen- tre on Saturday afternoon. A good selection of toys were donated, and those attending enjoyed themselves. Plans are to make the Christmas tea an annual event. The Emsdale Community Centre board will hold their December meeting on Monday, Dec. 3 in the Parker Room at our centre at 7 p.m. The Cottage Country Diners’ luncheon will be held on Dec. 13. There’s a new contest in Almaguin this Christmas season looking for the merriest and brightest homes. The first ever ‘Let There Be Light’ Almaguin News Christmas Lighting Contest is coming to give elves more than bragging rights for the best on the block, but best in the district. Entries for the best decorated home can be made by emailing digital photos of your display to [email protected], or by mailing or dropping off photos to the Almaguin News – no more than two photos per entry and please include the address and phone number. Entries are being accepted from now until Dec. 14. The winners will be announced in the Dec. 19 edition of the Almaguin News, and a photo of their display published in the Dec. 26 edition. Entries will be judged on overall appearance, creativity, effort and embrace of the holiday sea- son. The winners will be selected by the Almaguin News editorial team. First prize will be a $100 gift certificate from Magnetawan Home Hardware and second prize will be a $50 gift certificate from Collins’ Valu-mart. Come on Almaguin – Let there be light.
