In 2016, Engineer Jerald Norton began the process to map out and inspect all of the manholes. The manholes were GPS located and inspected for any possible leaks that could allow ground water to enter the sewer system. A crew from Olsson Associates inspected and noted necessary repairs. The project was divided into three phases. Ace Pipe Cleaning has completed the first phase of manhole rehabilitations, Mr. Norton is now working to acquire the easements and develop manhole repair specifications for phase two. The lift station on Central Avenue has been a topic of discussion for the last several months. Engineer Norton offered two different options when discussing rehabilitation plans for the lift station. During the June 28th Trustee’s meeting, it was decided to construct a gravity interceptor line from Central Avenue to a manhole on the south side of Highway 171, between Pearl and Wall Street. Mr. Norton noted the initial expense would be greater, but over time would save money by eliminating the Central Avenue lift station and the expenses to operate and maintain it. Also during the June meeting, a new sewer usage rate was adopted. Base rates will remain unchanged, but the usage rate will increase from $2.65 to $2.90 per 1000 gallons of water used. The current usage amount is based on the water usage reported in January, February and March of 2018. The new rate will be effective July 1, 2018. The base rates are listed below: Residential $ 29.30 Commercial 0 $ 51.00 1250 or less gallons per month Commercial 1 $ 69.00 1251 to 5000 gallons per month Commercial 2 $ 94.00 5001 to 15,000 gallons per month Commercial 3 $ 124.25 15,001 or more gallons per month For a resident with an average usage of 3814 gallons of water per month (the current average of all residents), their monthly bill would increase by 95¢ per month. As always, if you experienced any leaks or excessive water usage in January, February or March, please call and report it to the Village Office. Soon we will start to plan and schedule meetings to update Airport Drive’s Compre- hensive Plan for 2020. The Village’s first Comprehensive Plan for was adopted in 1981. The plan was updated in 2000 and 2010, and now it’s time to plan for 2020. A Comprehensive Plan identities the vision, values and priorities of a community for future years. Planners from Harry S. Truman Coordinating Council will work with residents to update information about Airport Drive, and to identify issues and opportunities in our community. Updates & Reminders

Before you burn limbs, brush or yard waste, call the Carl Junction Fire District, at 417-649-6062. There is no permit required, but always check with them to insure conditions are right for burning.

Unless otherwise marked, the speed limit for the streets in Airport Drive is 20 MPH. At this time of the year there are kids playing, residents walking and bike riding. Please encourage others to follow the speed limit.

All ditches are to be maintained by the resident. Trees, bushes, brush, debris and leaves need to be kept out of the ditches so water may flow easily for drainage.

If you have questions regarding code requirements of Airport Drive, please call the office at 417-623-6744, or view online at www.ecode360.com/AI3224.

Eagle Scout Class of 2018 Benjamin Fisk was recognized during the May 24, 2018 Board of Trustee Meeting for earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Randy Steele, the Advancement Chairman of the Eagle Projects and the Eagle Board of Review shared information about Benjamin’s project of rehabilitating the bird water feeder feature at the Wildcat Glades Audubon Center. He dug out the area, installed a new water pump and line, reconstructed the waterfall, added a water heater, and replaced the rocks and mulch. Benjamin is the son of Airport Drive residents Jon Fisk and Marcy Miller Fisk and a member of Troop 70 from Carl Junction. He attends Carl Junction High School and is a member of the Carl Junction High School Band and Jazz Band, earning a letter in those actives for the last two years. He has served in troop leadership as a Quartermaster, Scribe, Historian, Assistant Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He is a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow, the BSA National Honor Organi-zation and is a Hard Way Warrior of the Great Tribe of the Mic-O-Say, the honors organization for Heart of America Council. He has attended resident camp at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation for the last six years and served last year as a camp staffer. Benjamin has completed a total of 144 hours of community service and earned 28 merit badges since he has entered BSA. Chairman James Paul read a proclamation recognizing Benjamin’s accomplishments and presented a plaque to him. The Trustees wanted to congrat-ulate Mr. Fisk and wish him the best in his future endeavors.

A word from Sergeant Roughton….

Staff Celebration

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

Sergeant Melissa Roughton

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

Before the Trustees started their Work Session on Thursday, June 28th, they celebrated ten years with Sergeant Melissa Roughton and thanked departing Deputy Clerk Stacey Bass for her service to Airport Drive. Everyone shared dinner and desserts; and expressed their appreciations to both women for jobs well done. Sgt. Roughton has served the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office for over 18 years, but she has served the last ten years in Airport Drive. Stacey Bass and her husband Jeff are building a new home in Newton County, approximately 45 minutes from Airport Drive. She will be focusing her energies on that project. We all wish her the very best.

Hello to All, I hope everyone is doing well. It’s time to share what’s been going on in the Village. Besides getting hot early this year, we have had a few things to deal with in the Village. Some of you have received or have seen solicitors selling cleaning solutions for stain removal. Please try to remember to ask them for their Solicitors Per-mit. They are required to come to the Village Office and get a permit before they can go door to door to sell. Do not let them in your home if you don’t know them. In some cases, we had solicitors try to confuse the homeowner so they can go inside, such as saying they left their ticket book inside when they never even entered the home. Please don’t hesitate to call us so we can address the situation. So, let’s talk about cool air. Hopefully everyone’s A/C units are working properly. I’m not sure if I would rather be hot or cold. I think cold because you can always cover up. When you’re hot, you can only take so many clothes off before the cops get called. HaHaHa! Anyway, please watch out for your neigh-bors as well as your pets. Pets need a cool place to lay and have plenty of water. Don’t hesitate to report animal neglect. I have noticed some awesome gar-dens this summer. I think I need some lessons. With

that being said, please try to be aware if you are spraying weeds on your property. It’s not a good idea to spray on a windy day; the spray could land on

other people’s plants. Please keep in mind, people like to sell or can their produce so be aware of other people’s property before spraying. In traffic news, we have had the usual violations such as speeding, fail to register, running stop signs and stop lights, etc. The speed limit is 20 MPH on our roads. If you notice someone continually violating the speed limit in your area, please let me know and I will address it. We have several children in our communi-ties that play outside and I don’t want to see any of them hurt while riding their bike or playing outside. As always, be aware of suspicious people in your neighborhood. If you do not recognize them or they look like they are up to something, call us. It doesn’t matter how big or small the situation is; we do it all. I love our Village and want it to be safe and a nice place for people to live. Your concerns and questions are important to me. Please feel free to come in or call with whatever is on your mind. I will do my best to resolve any issue you may have. Thank you all for being great citizens! This is an awesome area to work in. I hope you all have a great summer. Try to stay cool and we will talk again in the fall.

Deputy Clerk Stacey Bass and Sergeant Melissa Roughton

Spot Light on Business

Hey Neighbors, Great day here in the Drive! I'm Jon Page of Front Page and I've been asked to tell you something about this business. If you've been in one of our stores then you know what they're about. If not, then here's the low-down......we buy merchandise in truckload lots from the major online and brick-and-mortar retailers and wholesalers, we look for anything that's good quality and LOW price. We especially seek out apparel, home goods (curtains, drapes, sheets, spreads, comforters) and we always manage to come up with a few other goodies as well. We've changed the pricing to simplify everything so it's easy to shop. We'll even help you by calling our other stores (Carthage and Neosho) and then bringing the merchandise to you to see if it's what you want. No charge for this service. So come on in, we'd love to meet you. We usually add new merchandise every day. We have clothing for the entire family at prices too low to pass up!

Election Day

November 6, 2018

On Thursday, March 22, 2018 the Trustees adopted Ordinance 02-18, to submit to the qualified voters of Airport Drive the ques-tion as to whether or not to provide that in the event the number of candidates running for any Municipal Election is equal to the number of open positions that no election shall be required. Simply put— if three residents file to run for Trustee and there are three open seats, we will not have to hold an election. Municipalities with not more than 1,000 inhabitants, with voter approval, are allowed to forego elections thanks to V.A.M.S. §115.124 of Senate Bill 593. This will eliminate the expense of holding an election when there is no need. The candidates will assume responsibilities of their office at the same time and manner as if they had been elect-ed. The question will be put before voters on the Tuesday, November 6, 2018 ballot as Proposition “A”. So mark your calendars to remember to vote on November 6, 2018.
