Steeped in HistoryLagos was founded by thePhoenicians and Carthaginiansfrom 1364 to 350BC, before theRomans occupied the area andnamed it 'Lacobriga'.

The Moors took control of the town in the eighth century constructingthe castle, whose imposing entranceand walls still stand - its goldenfaçade set against the deep bluenight sky. A truly awe inspiring sight.

From 1578 until 1756 AD Lagos wasthe capital of the Algarve and severalhistoric buildings and statues testify toits fascinating history. Roman artefactsand many other interesting items canbe found in the local museum.
