Editor’s

Note

Hey Everyone!

I’m Julien Rosenbloom, editor of the Voorhees High School Key Club. As we begin to grow accustomed to the myriad of events that Key Club has to offer, us officers at Key Club

will begin our Member of the Month program. There is no application or form needed; we evaluate members based on their contribution to their community and how they take ad-

vantage of the opportunities we have to offer. As you can tell, this evaluation is not quantita-

tive, but qualitative. We care more about how you volunteer at our events rather than how

often you do. This is just something I want you to keep in mind as you continue to be an ac-

tive member in our organization.

Secondly, as you probably noticed, this week is Spirit Fest!! This also aligns with Key

Club Week (how appropriate)! We see that the food drive donations are piling up, but re-

member that Tuesday, November 4th is the last day to bring in non-perishables for the Spir-

it Fest Food Drive Competition! Tonight is also Spirit Fest decorating, so we encourage all of

you to gather with your respective classes and decorate with your Spirit Fest theme in mind!

The last thing I’d like to inform you all about is the

new opportunity for general members to submit articles to be

published in The Viking Key . Whether you wish to put an

organization in the spotlight or promote a local volun-

teering opportunity, I will happily review it and do my

best to put it into the next edition of The Viking Key !

Update on Recent

Events

Fall Rally Fall Rally was on October 12th, 2014! We had a fantastic turnout with

more than 3,000 New Jersey Key Clubbers! It was held at Six Flags

Great Adventure and we spent the whole day in the park after the ral-

ly. We encourage all of you to join us next year for the 2015 NJ Fall

Rally.

Halloween Madness Halloween Madness was the weekend prior

to Halloween, and was held on October

26, and while we were expecting about

15 volunteers, only 3 showed up. With

this in mind, we would like to emphasize

how important it is that those who

volunteered to show up actually do; the

events we volunteer at rely on us a great

deal, so please show up if you say you will.

Halloween Bake Sale A big “thank you” goes out to everyone who baked brownies, cookies, and cup-cakes and to those who volunteered at our Halloween Bake Sale on Thursday, Octo-

ber 30th! We had so many items for purchase and sold a great deal of them, so

thanks and great job to everyone involved!

Dine Italian We had such a great turn out for our Dine Italian event! Thanks to all who volun-

teered; you really made the event go very smoothly and we could not have done it

without all of you!

Thanks to all of you wonderful VHS Key Clubbers! You’ve been doing great recently and we cannot wait to see you at some of

our upcoming events!

Again, if you sign up for an event, please do your best to attend. If you have made the commitment, it is essential that you stick with

it and show up. We have a very good reputation for event attend-

ance, and we would like to keep it up!

Thank you!

KEY CLUB

WEEK!!

This week is one dedicated to celebrating fantastic Key Clubbers

like you! That’s right, it’s Key Club Week! Refer to the calendar on the

opposite page for the theme of each day this week. Considering we

have off Thursday and Friday for NJEA Teachers’ Convention, our cele-

bration will be cut short, but to show your Key Club spirit, we encourage

you to wear your Key Club shirt to school at least once this week!

For more info on Key Club Week and for ideas for as to how you can

spread your Key Club spirit, check out http://www.keyclub.org/service/

kcw.aspx! It’s got loads of information — everything from the breakdown

of events for each day to an entire Key Club

Week Manual!

Divisional Book Drive

Continuing into this week we will have our Divisional Book Drive. We re-

quest that all donations be age appropriate for those under the age of 15

(for example, the Harry Potter series, The Fault in Our Stars, picture books, The

Magic Treehouse books, etc). If you would not have read it as a child or

“tween”, please do not bring it in. For any questions on the appropriateness

of the books you have brought or will be bringing in, please see an officer or

an adviser. The reason that we request this specific age limit is because all of

the donations will be brought to local children’s hospitals! This project is be-

tween both Division 12 and Division 13, and the books should be new, like

new, or gently used. If you would like to receive hours for you donation,

please put the books into a bag and write your

name on the bag.

Thank you, and we look forward to all of the

donations!!

ELIMINAThon

The ELIMINAThon is a codivisional, and ultimately district-wide, volleyball

tournament. It is being held so as to help achieve our district’s goal for dona-

tions to the ELIMINATE Project, which is working to ELIMINATE maternal neona-

tal tetanus from the face of the earth (and we’re pretty close). If volleyball is

your thing or you just want to help us reach this district goal, see one of your

officers, advisers, or LTG Nate for instructions on how to sign up. Our division’s

tournament will be at Bridgewater-Raritan High School on Friday, November

21st from 7:00pm to 9:30pm. Teams must be of five, and winners will go on to

compete at the district level if they advance that far.

See us for details and good luck!

VHS Key Club

Coffeehouse

Voorhees High School Key Club’s second monthly Coffeehouse

Breakfast will be held next Wednesday, November 12th. Last month’s

event went splendidly, and we would like to give all of you the oppor-

tunity to volunteer and bake goods. Because we have already sped

through October and arrived at November, try to bring some seasonal

breakfast foods in. Cookies, muffins, donuts, and hot chocolate are just

a few suggestions in a myriad of selections!! Advertise to your friends,

and help us beat our goal of $80 (we made around $85 at the last

event). To volunteer, simply sign up and plan to arrive around 9:00am

(school starts around 10:15 on these days).

We look forward to a another yummy and

successful VHS Key Club Coffeehouse!
