The VICMOG Gazette JUNE 2015

From ourPresidentHello everybody,

It was good to catch up with afew of you at the Maygathering in the Yarra Valley.Another triumph for the

organisational skills of Bill Emerson!

We have all hands on deck at North Melbourne inpreparation for the Winton Historic races. There willbe a 3 Wheeler display on Sunday 31st May thatincludes cars belonging to Warwick Bisley, PaulAnderson, Chris Van Wyk and myself. Justin and Ispent an hour or so last night repairing the brakes onthe 3 Wheeler which were locking on through lack ofuse. It will be good to have it serviceable again asthere will be plenty of pressure from Mike Devine touse these vehicles once his is complete. I have alsoheard that there may be another old 3 wheeler goinginto the garage of one of our members shortly.

Work and issues with parents are still dominating mylife at the moment so plans to slow down and have abit of fun are out the window for the time being.

Work on the Aero continues as I write this ` hopefullyI'll have it back next week so that I have transport(with a boot) for the Christmas in June weekend in acouple of weeks.

As a result of Geoff Fields initiative and Bill Emerson'snegotiating skills, we have been selected as thechosen marque for the 2016 Great Macedon GrandTour in April 2016.Their website needs to be updatedbut you can get an idea of this event frommacedonrangesgrandtour.com.au. We will belooking for accommodation close to the action forthe Friday and Saturday nights. The organisers haveconfirmed that all Morgans irrespective of date ofmanufacture are welcome to attend (i.e. their pre1988 manufacture rule will not apply in our case).

We are looking to get a turn out of between 10 to 20Morgans. Last year MGs were the chosen marqueand I hear they got around 17. It would be good if wecould beat that. The tour is limited to 100 vehicles. So keep watching the Social Secretary's report formore details in the coming months.

That's it from me.

Cheers

Chris

Secretary’s Report

Dear Members

We had an incredibly brief monthly meeting at theWild Cattle Creek Winery on Sunday the 17th. Thesun was shining, the birds were singing, the view wasbeautiful. The day was perfect for Morgan driving. We had a hearty lunch accompanied by some verydrinkable wines.

Upon adjourning to the verandah for coffee, ourillustrious President Chris handed out tickets toWinton (all he needed was a little red and white furrysanta cap), and that was the end of official business. There were no questions from our contentedmembers, and, in their own time, everyone departedfor a leisurely drive home.

From the Secretary'sview point, a verysuccessful day. Oh, weare on target forincreasing ourmembership by onecouple and car permonth.

By the way, is thereany truth to the rumour, that Brian is inQueensland, working as a stunt double on the Piratesof the Caribbean movie set with Johnny Depp?

Cheers

Ted

Vicmoggers will be pleased to know that after the 4`year ADR struggle, the first four 3`Wheelers are currentlyon the water to Australia.

Another 4 are due to leave for Australia soon.

On this page you can see see a couple of images of Chris' new demonstrator vehicle, taken outside the finalinspection area at the factory. He tells me he can't wait to drive it and I am sure there will be a few others inthat boat as well.

These images show the final approved ADR production version for the first time. Chris Van Wyk believes thatafter the protracted development process, we do now have the best Morgan 3 Wheelers in the world, betterthan for any other market.

When last chatting to Chris , he told me that of the 10 firm orders he has taken so far for 3`Wheelers only onehas been in Victoria so it does not look like the Club will be overrun with 3`Wheelers any time soon.

VICTOR KAYE AUCTIONA flyer was droped in letterboxes in the baysidesuburbs last week about an auction coming upon Sunday 31 May. On reading it, it becameapparent that long time Morgan dealer VictorKaye was downsizing his collection of stuff.

Ah Ha thought your editor, bound to be someinteresting Morgan memorabilia here so Ichecked out the viewing times and off I trotted.

There was heaps of interesting stuff but ofanything Morgan related, there were only twothings I could find.

First, two single bed spreads each emblazonedwith a large red Morgan and second, on theback window of a sad old Riley encased inchicken droppings, this sticker.

I will never complain about having to fight myway into Swan Street to see our Morgan Dealeragain.

MAY MEETINGAutumn in Melbourne gives some truly specialMorganing days and we were blessed that the datechosen for our May meeting run and lunch was oneof the best.

Those who like travelling in convoys met in the carpark of the Stamford Hotel in Rowville. After carefullynegotiating the Morgan destroying speed humps wegathered around our nicely lined up cars and enjoyedthe lovely sun and a bit of a catch up. We had a bit ofexcitement when Ramsay and Evelyn ignoring everyone jumping up and down and waving, shot past thecar park entrance and vanished around the cornerinto Stud Road.

Fortunately they managed to find their way back tous and the group set off with Ted and Bev in the leadfor a very scenic tour across the Dandenongs to ourlunch destination at the Wild Cattle Creek Winery inSeville. Having lived in Melbourne for more yearsthan I care to admit, I am always amazed at all theabsolutely stunning roads that I have never seenbefore that we seem to unearth on every run. BigglesEmerson, our worthy Social Secretary’s technique ofhunting out members with local knowledge to lead

these trips is really paying huge dividends.

With Ted and Bev’s careful direction we all arrivedsafely at the Wild Cattle Creek Winery. That is all barHeather and Peter, who had totally misread that partof Bill's instructions saying we would stop at theSilvan Reservoir to mean that we would be stoppingat the Silvan Reservoir rather than roaring past it at60KPH. When will some people ever learn.

Anyway a couple of phone calls later and they re`joined our group which now numbered 20 for a lovelylunch at this very pretty venue which to anyone whohas not been there I can recommend. Good food, good wine, good prices and great staff.

Coffee on the balcony in the lovely afternoon sunlooking out over their beautiful gardens to the hillsbeyond with the great company; it was just a veryspecial day. A big thanks to Bill for organizing thismagic event and to Ted and Bev for guiding us overthat amazing scenic route to get there.

MAY FRIDAY RDO LUNCH RUNThe May RDO started at Warran Glen Nursery and cafe. I knew as soon as we walked into the main store thatI was in trouble. In no time at all, Sarah and Kate went missing. We eventually found our party in the cafe withWarwick Bisely joining us for coffee on his way into Melbourne for a meeting.

The men chatted in the cafe, and the ladies mostly window shopped for nick nacks and plants. I did hear oneof our driving party exclaim “There will no plants coming home in my Morgan!” The rest of us nodded inagreement, but were too prudent to actually say anything in front of our wives.

We assembled a total of eleven Morgans for our run to Yarra Glen with new members David, Carol and Mark.

Ramsay and Evelyn lead us off on what was a truly great run to Yarra Glen via Kinglake with the roads givingus all a turn to see how well our Morgans cornered and accelerated out of the corners. I was tail end Charliewhich allowed me to see how each driver took their line through the corners. Following Frank's magnificentblack Roadster and Thierry's beautiful 97 4+4 , hearing both their exhausts resonating through the hills wasreal joy and reminded you of the sheer pleasure of driving our Morgans.

We arrived at the Hargreaves Brewery where we were joined by Lyle and Dick Gower. This venue was anexcellent choice for lunch. The food was great, the service was attentive, the ambience was warm, and therewas a wide selection of home made beers to sample.

I think all attendees would agree that this is a must do run again in the future. Thank you Ramsay for such agreat route.

Our next RDO run will be to the Annie Smithers Bistro , Piper Street Kyneton on Friday 26th of June. RSVPs areessential so we can get the table bookings right and as our worthy Social Secretary will have fled Melbourneby then can you please direct them to [email protected]

Ron's Collectors CornerEditor's Note: Ron is not only the VICMOG Regallia Officer dedicated to selling Morgan stuff , he is also an avidcollector. I asked him for a few words about his amazing array of Morgan Badges and he kindly agreed. Enjoy

Well as they say “from little acorns, Oak trees grow"! It all started about 2008 with just a few Morgan car clubbadges, then after placing an advert in the MSCC Miscellany, I received a reply from an Alan Legg who hadabout 30+ badges spare & offered them at cost, so began the journey!.

Since then Dick de Bruijin who was the regalia officer for the Holland Morgan club, has been a great help andmore recently, Hermen Poll as well. Together they have helped with possibly obtaining over 50% of thebadges for me.

To date the collection stands at 840, with 417 on one wall as shown in the photos, the next wall is a bitshorter, so a problem will be encountered soon as to what to do, what fun, I only hope the wall is strongenough for them all. There still may be nearly 200 badges to get, so there will be many years to get them all, ifthat is at all possible.

As for any favourite badges, that is a hard call, maybe the early VicMog badges with Queen Victoria, thenMOG 2004, #1, a special Issue, Gold Plated, with a Diamond in the eye of the depicted Centurion, then 2badges issued at Mog 2008, both #001, framed & signed by Charles Morgan, this could go on as there aremany special badges.

Also shown in the photos are display cases of a number of die cast Morgans of various scales, along with adisplay case for the Wrenn OO trains, just to show that I am not a complete Morgan nut!, my wife has adifferent thought on that!.

MOG AND DOG DAY

Sir Reginald (Redgie to his friends) and Lady Abigal

(Abbey) find that there is nothing more enjoyable

than taking their Morgan out for a pleasant

afternoon drive in the country.

“We have often thought of joining VICMOG”, Abbey

was heard to bark recently, “but would we be

breaking any social barriers?”

Well, Secretary Ted has discovered there are quite a

few dog lovers in the club, and suggests a MOG drive

to a pleasant dog friendly park (maybe Williamstown

Botanical Gardens) we can have a picnic, a stroll

along the beach, the dogs can sniff each other's

bottoms, and we can drive our beautiful Morgans.

For today's photo shoot, Abbey is resplendant in her

Paspaley pearl necklace, while Redgie is dressed in

silk bow tie from Jermyn St London.

If you are interested email Ted [email protected]

and we’ll set a date.
