Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever.

In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement.

Community Grants


Breast Cancer Statistics

• Over 226,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. this year

• Approximately 40,000 will die

• Utah ranks near the bottom in the nation for screening rates

• 13% of Utah residents do not have health insurance

• Women don’t perceive themselves at risk


Eligibility

• Nonprofit organization located in or providing services within the state of Utah

• All past and current Komen-funded grants and awards are up-to-date and in compliance with Komen requirements

• Project must be specific to breast health and/or breast cancer


Funding Priorities • Increase the rate of mammography screening for women of

all ethnic backgrounds aged 40 and over with a focus on women who are uninsured or underinsured

• Educate women of all backgrounds about the risk factors for breast cancer, prevention, and reinforce the benefits of early detection, as well as available resources

• Enrich the lives of breast cancer survivors by providing support services for survivors and their families/co-survivors
