CAP 1.2 pushing feeds

• AEMET provides all updated information regarding warnings through subscription to channels, in RSS and Atom formats. Became operational on june 18th.

• Warnings are provided through CAP 1.2 format messages. • These channels are updated permanently when a change in the

warnings snapshot is produced. • There are different channels available to subscribe for the different

geographical Spanish areas: all Spain, autonomous communities, provinces, islands and warning areas (3-4 per province).

• Besides each individual CAP message (one for each parameter, awareness-level and area), there is also a first entry with the complete warnings state for the selected geographical area.

• Warnings are published automatically in Twitter and the content depends on each account.

• Warnings for all Spain: @AEMET_Esp / @AEMET_SINOBAS • Warnings are published just after preferential periods for

warnings issuance. • In both accounts, at 12:00 and 23:30 local time: maps of all

parameters warnings for days 1-3 in the same tweet, with a link to the national warnings section of the official website.

• In @AEMET_SINOBAS, at 9:00 local time: maps of all parameters warnings and provinces risk for day 1.

• In @AEMET_Esp, at 9:30 local time: different tweets for the different parameters that have warnings for day 1, with a link to the national warnings section already filtered by parameter.

• Warnings for each Autonomous Community: • A new tweet is generated in the corresponding regional Twitter

account when Infotweet Server detects some changes in the warnings snapshot for a certain Autonomous Community.

• This analysis is made every 6 min (maximum delay). • As many tweets as days with changes in warnings. • Each tweet contains a map with all parameters warnings for the

corresponding day, with a link to the warnings section of the Autonomous Community in the official website.

• If you click the tweet map, two warnings tables appears: at the top, all warnings (days 1-3) for the Autonomous Community; at the bottom, warnings (days 1-3) for the rest of Spain.

IMPACT IN SOCIAL NETWORKS(official account @AEMET_Esp) • Daily impressions in @AEMET_Esp between the 1st of december 2017 and the 30th of

april 2018:

• Impressions measures the total number of views of a conversation. Picture shows the total number of impressions for each day taking into account all tweets published that day (measures the daily audience).


• Comparison between monthly mean impressions, impressions of the most important tweet for each Storm and mean impressions for each storm tweets.

• Impressions measures the total number of views of a conversation.


• Impressions, interactions, likes («me gusta») and retweets («retuits») obtained for tweets with the tag #StormName. (#BorrascaNombre).

• Impressions (Impresiones): measures the total number of views of a conversation.

• interactions (Interacciones): measures the total number of clicks on a tweet.

CONCLUSIONS • The number of visits to AEMET´s web page tends to increase a lot when a storm is named, but

also with high impact phenomena, such as snow or heavy precipitation.

• Storm naming helps with the spreeding of the severe event and their associated warnings through mass media, even thought it is not clear if it makes the number of visits to AEMET´s web page grow.

• Tweets with the Storm tag have a great dissemination, specially the fist one, when the storm affects Spain. It helps to increase the visibility of @AEMET_Esp even before orange/red warnings start.
