INTRO

A summary of Aristotle’s rhetorical appeals:

Ethos (Greek for ‘character’) and is the source’s credibility, the speaker’s/author’s authority.

Pathos (Greek for ‘suffering’ or ‘experience’) The use of pathos is called a “pathetic appeal.” “Pathos” is used to describe the rhetor's attempt to appeal to “an audience's sense of identity, their self-interest, and their emotions.” Pathos is known for using vivid language, emotional language and numerous sensory details.

Logos (Greek for ‘word’) and is the logic used to support a claim (induction and deduction); can also be the facts and statistics used to help support the argument.

LOGOS: STRENGTHS All goals laid out on homepage with easy access. Very good flow of information. The logic behind the layout of the page makes complete sense with the ability to see and understand the overall statement.

Throughout the entire website there is multiple uses of statistics and facts since this program is a statistical ran program.

For citations there is separate tab on each internal link within the website goals on the left hand side that can be used as a great and very informative tool.

The message is well thought out and laid out in a very clear manner than even the first time user can grasp.

All the messages stick to a consistent message and goal.

LOGOS: WEAKNESSES

With all the information that is presented on the homepage I would be able to understand why or how it could be overwhelming. My opinion would be that there are very few weaknesses with this website.

PATHOS…

While viewing the UN’s website a viewer might feel or express the following emotions:

-"Love" will be felt if the audience can be made to believe in their fundamental connections to other human beings whom through helping and promoting the actions of the UNDP will come closer to achieving some of the UNDP’s goals.

-”Affection” will be felt if the website can portray a sense of devotion, warmth, kindness and a necessity to help all those people who are in need around the world.

-"Pity" will be felt if the plight of the poor, hungry, homeless, disease-ridden, and suffering victims can not be helped nor reached.

-"Fear" will be felt if the audience can be made to imagine what they would feel like in that suffering victim's place.

-"Anger" will be felt if the audience realizes how little has been done by those who are responsible for helping. So, the audience will effectively be motivated to increase their efforts to help the causes funded by the United Nations Development Programmes.
