The Uganda National Agro-Input Dealers Asso ciation (UNADA) is the national apex organization for all agro-input dealers in Uganda. UNADA was re gistered und er the NGO Statute in 2003. We the members of UNADA believe that the private sector input dealers are the engine of growth for the Ugandan agricultural sector and are a prime force behind the modernization of Uganda’s agriculture and the achievement of national food security resulting from improved yields. It is our responsibility and privilege to foster the growth of an efficient and cost effective input distribution network that will reach all farmer s in Uganda. VISION: MISSION: AND OBJECTIVES of the Association: a) To represent all agro-input dealers in the country, and act as a negotiating body that speaks with one voice to support the interests of all members. b) To provide professional support and networking among agro- input dealers , encourage and suppor t the business development of individual members, and promote the exchange of ideas and skills in order to improve services to farmers. c) To establish and enforce a code of fair business conduct for members and keep members informed of the legal codes regulating the industry. d) To actively contribute to the modernization of Uganda’s agriculture, and participate in projects aimed at bringing development to the agricultural sector. Membership in the Association is open to men and women who show commitment to the Association’s aims and objectives and are willing to abide by the constitution, code of conduct, rules and regulations of the Association. There are different categories of membership: Full Members are active agro-input dealers . This category is divided into the following classes, each with their own requirements, rights and benefits: Class Description BRONZE New retailer SILVER Established Retailer (>2 yrs) GOLD Potential Distributor IVORY Associations / Groups PLATINUM Distributor DIAMOND Supplier Associate Members: This category is open to interested individuals that have not yet completed training or have not yet opened their business. Associate membership is limited to a two -year period. Working Partners: This category is open to interested institutions, companies, organisations or businesses involved in related enterprises. MEMEMBER SERVICES UNADA is a member organization that exists to serve the interests of its members . Member services are developed to respond to the changing needs of the sector. The services currently offered include: Skills Development: The association links members to private sector training providers who offer high quality business management courses tailored to the specific needs of the agro-input sector. In addition, short courses in specific aspects of marketing, new product knowledge, safe use and handling , group dynamics , and associat ion development are offered directly by the association. Market Development: UNADA helps its members to develop their market through Farmer Mobilization, On-farm demonstrations for new products, Radio and print advertising, trade fairs and other Publicity events. Advocacy and Policy Analysis: UNADA seeks to keep its members informed of regulatory and policy developments that affect them and to represent their interests in the national policy arena. Market Linka ges: Through the Association members gain access to price and product information, bulk purchase discounts, delivery services, and market information. Credit Linkages: The Association helps members to negotiate for suppliers’ credit by providing both group and individual credit guarantees for qualifying members. VALUES BRANCHES OF THE ASSOCIATION REGIONAL ASSEMBLIES BOARD OF DIRECTORS Members of the Association are organized into district level branches for effective local action. Each branch must have at least five (5) Full Members to be officially registered with the Association. Branches are completely autonomous with regards to their internal activities and affairs. Branches are organized on district basis to facilitate effective service delivery and legal registration as CBOs. The nation al associa tion supports them to build linkages to suppliers, sources of training and financial services such as credit. The UNADA Branches are organized into regions for effective joint action, local accountability and regional representation. In order to form a Region, a geographic area must have at least 5 registered branches. Regions are headed by a coordinating council on which all branches are represented and which implements regional programmes. Regional assemblies send representation to the National Assembly, which sets organizational priorities, approves policies and programmes, and elects the Board of Directors.
